I'm going to have to hold off for now... That conference just didn't sell me.
While many people were expecting too much from the Pro, Sony underwhelmed even those of us with tempered expectations. I do not believe it was unreasonable to expect feature parity with the Xbox One S along with some extra power under the hood. No UHD, unclear benefits for old/VR games, and confusing statements about 4K really took the wind out of Sony's announcement.
Those mistakes were not damning and a better explanation of the benefits of upgrading from the base PS4 would have helped immensely. Now Microsoft has a golden opportunity to steal Sony's thunder. If Microsoft were to require developers to implement a 1080p/60fps version for all games with a Scorpio mode (old and new), they would appease the more tech-savvy gamers. They could additionally allow developers to create extremely pretty 1440p or 1080p version of the game for the average consumer.
The bottom line is that Sony has been hitting it out of the park this generation, so this stumble really surprised us all. It's crazy, but a few baffling decisions have given Microsoft a serious opportunity to jump back on top (maybe not in sales, but certainly in quality).
P.S. Could you imagine if MS also offered an SSD variant? That would be so expensive, but so badass.
