#13938159 Humble Bundle Thread

So do approximately 15,000,000 books not in this bundle.  Which goes again to the question of "Did someone at Humble seek these out or did someone else offer them to Humble when asked what was available for bundling?"

While I'm not in the habit of picking pointless internet fights, this is one of the more remarkably information-free responses I've seen in some time.

If it's surprising to you that the internet/sci-fi/nerdy/stale-meme-obsessed Humble was interested in literally any particular Hugo shortlisted author, let alone one whose Hugo candidacy had as much internet involvement as this one's, then I really feel for you: life must be a constant flood of confusion.

Of all the books in this bundle, Chuck Tingle's are literally the least surprising as they are the most memey and they are the ones that best fit the theme of the bundle. Yet they are the only ones several people on this board are somehow confounded about being in the bundle.

It's just a natural reaction. You paid for a product thats market value is now essentially 0. The same feeling as buying a game for $60 that immediately drops to $40. Or even worse, goes F2P. Many people are already on the fence about pulling the trigger, so when this happens they have that knee-jerk angry response.

The market value of a digital download game is $0.

An unused code for a digital download might have market value, but the minute you activate it, it loses all market value.

The market value of a steak can be $60, but once you eat it, its market value quite quickly turns to $0 (have at it with the jokes).

Digital download games are meant to be consumed for personal, subjective entertainment value. If what you want is products that retain some market value, you need to buy physical.

i'm struggling with the irony of someone that is intentionally criticizing and berating a beloved game to get a rise out o people accusing others of having 'poor emotional adjustment'.

I think cover-based third person shooters provide an illusion of difficulty without actually providing a genuine challenge. *shrug* if that opinion offends someone, or really they find anyone expressing an opinion about a video game offensive, then yeah they probably have poor emotional adjustment

Also I was literally praising and recommending the game .

My impression is that Max Payne 3 is another garbage cover-based third person shooter. I consider that entire genre an offense to my religion. I could go on for hours discussing why it's a terrible mechanic that needed to die years before it did, but I'm just fucking thankful it's finally dead now.

this is why i laugh when people question the validity of sites like IGN yet prefer the opinions of posters on this forum

only here will you see anybody say that amazing games like Uncharted and Last of Us are bad games

btw The Last of Us is best on hard mode, if you can't handle that you just aren't very good

Literally anyone can handle TLOU on Grounded, there is nothing remotely difficult or challenging about it, it just makes the incredibly boring encounters take a bit longer. Maybe gamers who are easily frustrated confuse their poor emotional adjustment with difficulty, but there's nothing remotely difficult about the game.

CS:GO = 2012.

DOTA 2 = 2013.

Today = 2018.

What the hell have they done in the last 4-5 years?

Blizzard had a six year gap between releasing World of Warcraft and StarCraft II.

There are studios that play the rat's-race of yearly releases, then there are studios that expect their IPs to have much longer lifespans.

Hearthstone started as a silly game to dick around with while developing more World of Warcraft content. Now it's a money printing machine. Focusing hardcore on market researching what's going to be the best seller for the upcoming quarter and then making your programmers grind that camel out isn't always the best way to make money.

Valve is similar, Left 4 Dead and Portal came about because teams forked off of the Half Life 3 project to do something that interested them. Two of their biggest money-making titles came about because their developers liked dicking around playing mods.

Been trying to decide whether to get The Last of Us. Never played it and I generally don't like horror games, but I'm hoping the story makes it worth it.

It's not a horror game at all. It's a standard seventh generation cover-based third person shooter. Like every other cover based shooter, there aren't any interesting or engaging combat mechanics.

Like all cover-based shooters on the 7th gen, I'd recommend playing on the lowest difficulty: nothing gets more interesting or challenging or rewarding ramping up to the highest possible difficulty, just slightly more of a slog.

In the end the best part of the game were the walking simulator parts between each encounter, which are actually quite good. So turn off all difficulty so the encounters end ASAP and you don't have spend too long thinking about how boring and bland they are and how horrible the seventh gen of console gaming was, and enjoy the story, which is not bad for a videogame.

Oh, and the cover shooter mechanics are actually fun in multiplayer where you're not playing against whack-a-mole AI. Last Of Us multiplayer is fun.

Got in the mid-tier, it's been going up since. I never played the DLC for LA Noire or GTA IV, and never played Max Payne 3, so I feel like I should probably jump on the high tier. Heck, all proceeds to charity, right?

"Rumor Suggests Microsoft Has Considered Acquiring EA, Valve, PUBG Corp - IGN"

Of course Microsoft has considered those acquisitions, how on earth could anyone imagine they haven't considered those acquisitions? It's their job to consider acquisitions.

PC master race are like door to door religious groups. Going around and telling people why they think their way is the right one even though nobody asked.

As you'll notice, the post that set this off (mine) had nothing to do with extolling the virtues of PC, let alone suggesting a "right way" to game exists. I was merely pointing out that because the game had a GOG giveaway on PC, it has a good chance of getting on PS+ soon.

Despite that, several people immediately got so insanely triggered by the mere incidental allusion to the existence of PC anywhere near them, they decided to devolve into arguments about why consoles and chesterfields are wonderful and gaming on a computer sucks, even though nobody asked

A certain breed of console-only gamers are extremely insecure that other people dare to game on multiple platforms. To stick with your inappropriate choice of religious analogies, they're like groups who spot a person walking by in a kippa minding his own business, and then surround him and beat him with baseball bats screaming "WHAT?! YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN US?!?!"

did I tell you that you can't post about monster hunter here? no. I was saying that I don't get why you're posting about it here when you can find more beneficial discussions about it in other threads, where people care more so it makes more sense to post there. discuss what you want, where you want, but some reading comprehension might do you some good.

anyway, my post wasn't directed at just you. it was all the monster hunter talk in general.

Understand that people in console threads often don't respond very kindly to questions or comments about games from a PC gaming perspective.

If someone pointed out in a console thread that the game has terrible framerates on console and will probably be better on PC, the thread would devolve into "gaming on a computer sucks, couch and tv > desk" ad nauseam.

i don't get why people are posting about monster hunter in here. even the sports talk made more sense.

How on earth does talking about sports make more sense in a PC gaming thread than talking about an upcoming and highly anticipated PC game?

ps4/xbox threads exist for a reason!

Umm ... yeah ... and that reason is probably not to talk about upcoming PC games.

I wasn't inviting everyone to list their inscrutable and illegitimate reasons, I was just making someone who might be interested in the information aware of the likelihood the game might come to PS+ sometime soon.

Supposedly promo image for Dark Soul's II and Far Cry 4 on PS+ was leaked.

I think that's fantastic. Dark Soul's II is in my opinion very unfairly criticized. I'm glad I bought a physical copy of it and never purchased digital, it will be nice having digital as well so as not to have to swap disks.
