#13949530 Steam+ Deals Mega Thread (All PC Gaming Deals)

Despite Amazon being the worst company on the face of the planet, and Twitch being literal cancer, the Twitch client has never done anything to piss me off. Didn't default itself to run on startup, has never had huge long waits to update, installs games extremely fast and is snappy to run, doesn't use huge amounts of system resources in the background. As a bonus they often make some good picks for their free games.

Ironically, the GOG client is the only one that's really done anything to piss me off: huge resource hog, updates take forever, super slow downloads, and defaulted itself to launch on Windows startup. All despite my loving everything in GOG's mission statement and the whole idea of DRM free games.

any but the starter edition, which increases the grind to get new guys by a lot. The only diff in the other versions are what season passes they are going to come with, and passes are just going to give you free access to that seasons operators without having to earn renown and buy them (plus a few extras like some skins n stuff)

Ah, pay-to-not-play. Love it when developers have so much confidence in how fun their game is that their business model counts on people paying them money to avoid having to play it.

Still not nearly as bad as Destiny's "pay $10 extra to skip to level 25". I definitely won't ever be playing that game if the devs are basically telling you that they made the experience of playing the early game such garbage that people are willing pay to avoid it.

Played some Siege during the free weekend and really, really liked it. It really nails the special ops feeling. But it seems like way too much of an investment to me to get into right now. If I can't even figure out which version of the game is the right one to buy, it's a pretty good hint that it's not really the game for me.

You forgot about Whiplash.

I get why so many people were blown away by J.K. Simmons in Whiplash: lots of people never watched Oz.

Owlboy! Been waiting for years to play this! Between that and Celeste and Bayonetta this weekend, plus hollow knight in a few weeks, wowzers

Wowzers indeed: no new Switch titles with a release date at the moment. And the only new Switch title that even has a release window is Mario Tennis Aces, if "Spring" counts as a release window  :-k

On another note: I didn't realize Hollow Knight had a release date yet?

Damn its almost at my $5 buy price, will it ever come to a humble bundle

Just buy it. Bethesda is notoriously stingy with Humble. I think they did one bundle for Humble and it was a bunch of shitty micro transaction garbage for Elder Scrolls Online and Quake Champions. They never put any decent games in monthlies or other multi-publisher bundles.

Come on you know you like me.

And its pretty colse to 10$ now, so i don't see why not.

You think people just buy keys on here and then sell at a loss? Everything on here is keys people have left over from bundles that they don't want or have dupes of (best case), or bought extra bundles and hope to flip for a profit (worst case).

Or go simpler and go with this! https://www.amazon.c...d=ANL1K2QU6LSBJ

Works with Wii U pro controllers also, fyi.

Yeah I was going to respond with 8bitdo's similar contraption, which is $5 cheaper and decidedly less ugly. I've always been extremely happy with my 8bitdo products, for what it's worth.

Although I do have the 8bitdo adapter to use my DS4s on my Switch, I personally still picked up a pro controller since I just wanted the official thing, with no dongles, and HD rumble and everything. Obviously whether that's worth the extra $50 is up to individual determination. For me it's definitely been worth it.

In addition, I love my 8bitdo SF30 Pro, and my GameCube controller adapter. I pretty much have more ways to connect controllers to my Switch than I know what to do with.

#13941087 Does Playing In Bordered-Window Mode Reduce Game Performance?

Posted by Ex~ on 07 February 2018 - 07:06 PM

Usually people run in borderless windowed (allows to alt-tab around desktops to do other stuff while playing a game) or in fullscreen.

The way most window managers work, typically when running in borderless windows, your window manager is actively rendering your desktops so that they are primed and ready to be tabbed over to. This uses up some of your graphical rendering power.

In fullscreen all your graphical power is used to render the game. This is why the screen goes black and takes a second to display your desktop if you switch to your desktop from a fullscreen game.

Bordered window should be the same or worse as borderless window, with how the window manager is optimized for your particular graphics package being the deciding factor on how much worse it is than borderless window.

Similar a super well optimized window manager won't have much of an impact between fullscreen and borderless window.

Also depending how your window manager is organized, stuff like having multiple desktops or lots of windows/tabs may have more of an effect.

Is Valentine's Day considered a major holiday?

I think you should add the following to your exceptions modifiers:

  • If you have a 20% off coupon that is going to expire on Monday, set chances to 0% that it occurs this weekend.
  • If you've just spent your 20% off coupon before the weekend, set chances to 100% that flash sale will occur this weekend.

#13940464 Humble Bundle Thread

Posted by Ex~ on 06 February 2018 - 07:45 PM

Humble is clearly in decline. Gotta wonder how much longer they're gonna be around.

lmao, last week: "OMG the unlocks for February are amazing! OMG Dark Souls III + Ashes for $12?? And more unlocks to come?! Humble striking it out of the park!!"

this week: "sometimes the more minor of the several bundles they put up each week aren't quite as good as the major ones? THEY'RE ON THE WAY OUT BOYS!!"

Why is this $40 Samsung 32gb microSD card on the front page? The same card is $27 on Amazon. And anyway 32gb cards with performance as good as the Switch can utilize can be found easily in the $12 range.

I don't know if this was previously posted, but Cortex Command is free on Steam for a few more hours:

Just click the one with the install button, not the one that says $19.99. The only reason that I knew about this was a Reddit post, but I guess it was free all weekend.

This has now officially been posted here more times than it will ever be played.

No matter how tedious you find sports, trust me, they can't possibly be anywhere near as tedious as people who feel compelled to express that they don't care about sports.
