Maybe tired? Maybe smaller? Tough to say since I missed the previous 3 shows at Wells Fargo.

It was a lot of families, so perhaps the fans who'd traveled to Philly had already left (acknowledging 4 straight nights of shows in the same building is impossible to take in)? I agree that it was a lukewarm crowd.

Maybe we're all just resting until we burn the city to the ground on Sunday as the result of (but not contingent upon the outcome of) the Super Bowl.

I saw that Beyond Wrestling was running out of Wrestlefactory on Saturday before Takeover, but the transit situation wasn’t ideal in relation to where I was staying.

Still training? How’s it going if so?

(May)be I am. ;)

Absolutely the WF is not the easiest to get to if you're taking public transit. A combo of trains and buses works, and the parking situation is strange. But we love it and it's the perfect size for a small indy to run a show. At least you're not fighting for south philly parking (woof), and it is free to park. Message me if you come up sometime!

The Beyond crew were incredible. The idea of a Secret show (and one that sells out) is hard to pull off, but when you have a card where the *opener* is Jonathan Gresham vs Mike Quackenbush, you know it's gonna be good. If you really dig indy wrestling, I'd hunt down this card specifically for EYFBO vs Tracy Williams and Wheeler Yuta. It's a sleeper match that really exceeded my expectations (and I have high opinions of all four of those guys). Orange Cassidy vs Swoggle was delightfully stupid, too. The main event was David Starr vs Matt Riddle, and boy did it deliver.

We have some crossover shows with them later this year, and I'm not entirely sure what all that entails - but I'm definitely excited at the prospect of collaborating with them more.

I missed most of the show this weekend (and I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY kicking myself for skipping Takeover for reasons I can't get into here), but I did go to Smackdown last night. A lot of fun overall to attend. It seems that Bullet Club (and derivative) shirts are a really easy way to identify the awful wrestling fans in the crowd these days. I did pop for like a 10 year old dude wearing an LIJ shirt though.

Wanted to post back in here to say I really really hope you guys start paying attention to CHIKARA (again?). Sooner than later is great, but definitely later this year.

;)

Watching R2 right now. Enjoyed some victors, sad about others.

Of those I've never heard of prior to this tourney, suuuuper high on Toni Storm.

That was one hell of an ending though. Now I'm curious as to SANITY becoming a face faction or if we just get a bunch of tweeners or everyone being a heel, you figure out who to cheer for.

And after G1 and NXT, I'm basically ready for just a mindless popcorn main event. So long as I get 15 minutes or more of just everyone charging at one another and such, I think it'll be pure fun.

hahaha - yeah, there's been just too much great wrestling the last month. Gimmie some gimmicky bullshit tonight. :D

I have strong thoughts on Tye and how the "10" chant actually hurts wrestling as a whole (not intentionally, mind) - but I gotta run off to a show, so I'll discuss that later!

So...come out looking like the Brooklyn Brawler?

Come out looking like a trust fund gentrifying hipster.

Y'know - REAL HORROR.

I didn't get to see it since Monday is a training day and I was too busy this week to watch on DVR.

The former is great storytelling, the latter, well...

Corbin is young and I think very raw. His Battleground match w/ Nakamura was a severe, severe let down, and I think it says a lot about him as a performer.

He has a good look and a great persona (rarely, if ever, showing himself to be a likeable "normal guy" - he does a great job of coming off the same on tv and in person, which is massively to his credit.

But there is *no need* to rush on him. WWE's shown that they want big things with him (Andre Battle Royal, MITB) and they get cold feet shortly thereafter. I think they need to do better at evaluating him *before* they start to foreshadow that they're ready to pull the trigger on him.

Progress was excellent - went up on a lark when friends had a spare ticket. Of guys I wasn't familiar with, really impressed by Mark Haskins and WALTER.

Watched the G1 Finals today. There was one return that made my heart three times its size, and it wasn't Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith, Jr. Really touching finale with Yuji Nagata as well, and the G1 final match was excellent (and horrifying at times).

Ugh - I'm still about a week behind on shows (and since they run so often, that basically means I'm about 15 hours of footage behind.)

The emergence of Juice Robinson as a wrestler the crowd respects for his fighting spirit is definitely one of my unexpected highlights this year. I suspect they're building towards Omega/Okada as the deciding match in B-block, while A is more open, w/ ZSJ, Naito, Tanahashi, and dark horse appearance by Ishii.

It's possible that the winner of B-block (naturally either Omega or Okada) will go all the way, but I suspect we could see Naito emerge as the winner and move (back?) up into the IWGP heavyweight scene.

Not that I'll find out today, as I have 4 hours of training tonight as soon as I'm off work. :)

There is so much good wrestling to consume for sure. I'm about two weeks behind on G1 Climax, and some of those matches have been fucking *bangers*.

Was just at Beyond on Sunday and realize how some of these guys in the Evolve/Beyond/PWG/I'm sure I'm forgetting other promotions of their caliber might be off the radar of fans. Some guys at the show you've seen (Bobby Fish recently being on NXT), and some you will soon (Donovan Dijak). But if Matt Riddle isn't on your radar, or Tracy Williams, Chris Dickinson/Jaka, EYFBO, and so on - you need to try to change that.

Joey Janela is really making a name for himself as a character, too. He's really doing something special.

Floslam is a big ask - $20/month on top of what we all already have (Netflix, WWE, Hulu, NJPWworld, HBO, Cable, and god knows what else) - but if you see Evolve coming to your area (e.g., they were just in GA the other week), buy a ticket.

I Respect this. Same reason why for every show I go to I just go to the venue in the morning on a weekend to get passes. I Can't imagine that main event being anything worth staying for though.

Cheapies are down to $38 after fees on stubhub, so I think I'm gonna go.

There's a certain charm about the punjabi prison match and the opportunity to see it live.  I don't expect to see a mat classic, but that's not Mahal's style or Orton's style. It's going to be a spectacle more than a match, and I'm fine with that. There's a lot of dudes on this card who I haven't seen in ages (the last time I saw Nakamura live was when he toured on one of the ROH/NJPW "War of the World" shows at the ECW Arena, about 2-3 years ago now?).

I have been hooked on NJPW since last year - mostly astonished at how they've grown as a promotion despite losing Styles/Nakamura/Gun&Gallows the month after their biggest show of the year in 2016 - and *improve* as a promotion. So many great wrestlers to watch. Omega, Kushida, Ishii - it's great.

I don't get ZSJ as a member of Suzukigun given who they are and what they represent, but his style is such a thrill to watch.

I don't get how Hiromu Takahashi managed to get a *stuffed cat* over, but sure enough he has.

I even think Toru Yano is hilarious to watch.  But yeah, NJPW is knocking it out of the park night after night this year. BOSJ was a thrill to watch, and G1 is shaping up to be amazing Kota Ibushi vs Tetsuya Naito was heavy, Minori Suzuki (one of my absolute favorites to watch right now) and Kenny Omega had a match that Jim Cornette himself would have to admit was excellent, and there have been several others.

Speaking of ZSJ, he was a guest in-house at Chikara a few weeks back for our first Johnny Kidd invitational (definitely recommend finding and watching some old Kidd matches from World of Sport in the 1980's, btw). Here's a free match we released featuring him taking on Rory Gulak from that event:

Discounts on the ticket prices, *yes*. Notsomuch on the fees, though.

I'm stubborn about that sort of thing.

I'm super tempted to go, but cheapies for Battleground nearly double in price when fees are added in. A $25 ticket costs $48. That is, to borrow from Carlito, not cool.

Yeah, I heard about that - really sorry to hear, I know folks who worked there spoke very highly of him, and he clearly brought something special to the Cleveland indy scene.

There's no shortage of good indy wrestling in Cleveland, though - someone will step up and keep the mantle going.
