#11439439 Radioshack Trade 5 "electronic devices" get min 25$

Posted by shrike4242 on 13 January 2014 - 01:43 AM

"bought 40 assorted dollar store earbuds and traded in some of my own" is my exact quote, guess you missed that though. Look, I don't know if it will work for everyone, I'm just saying what I did. If it helps someone, great, but I'm not going to argue over it.

People that decide to push the bounds of promotions like this are usually why they don't get offered again, or they get killed off earlier than scheduled.

Thanks for possibly screwing up for the rest of us.

#11431156 red eye of death- solutions?

You can check online if the console is still under warranty or not via the Xbox site:

http://support.xbox....4d19d85d87fe935

If it's under warranty still, which it might be, you would just set up a repair with Microsoft.

Otherwise, you'd need to find out the error code and do some Google searching on how to resolve the issue.

#11430582 Mad Men Season 1 - 5 (Blu-Ray) $39 with Free Shipping!

Store site and ad lists dvd not blu-ray for $9.99.

Here's the thread on Blu-Ray.com and it shows clearly with a shelf tag that it's $9.99 for the BD release in-store:

#11427518 The unOFFICIAL Art Book Pre-Order Thread

Posted by shrike4242 on 08 January 2014 - 04:09 PM

Add me into the "holy crap, they actually shipped 'Eyes Of Bayonetta'?" group.  Mine's being prepared for shipment and my order goes back to March 14th 2012, which was a re-order for when they canceled it for some unknown reason.

I did receive a couple of "this is the new shipment date" emails in the last few weeks, though I had been getting those monthly or every couple of months for the last near two years, so I didn't expect it to actually go to shipment.

Picked up 10 $9.99 steelbooks and a $2 filler, provided $15 GC without issue.

Returned the originally purchased steelbooks at $14.99 due to RZ Elite Plus 45 day return window, so received back $50 + tax on the transaction.

That's for today, tomorrow will pick up some Nintendo eShop cards that are over $100 and get $15 more of a GC.

Isn't there like a special customer service line dedicated to Elite/Elite Plus members or something like that?

On the back of the new card which replaces the old RZ card.

To the person who recommended we contact Kelly at Unboxed, thank you very much. She got me the coupon before Black Friday and was very friendly. Although I do admit I was kinda jealous to see she sent the same email to another CAG.

You're welcome.

#11279725 Help me ditch my cable once and for all (need antenna/DVR advice)

Posted by shrike4242 on 25 November 2013 - 08:54 PM

If you don't want to pick up a cable company/satellite DVR, you're looking at three options primarily:

1) Tivo Roamio (not the Plus or Pro, as they don't have over-the-air (OTA) tuner capabilities)

2) Build your own with Windows 7 (any version) or Windows 8/8.1 Pro with Media Center upgrade, PC, TV tuner card, drives, etc.

3) Build your own with Linux and MythTV, PC, TV tuner card, drives, etc.

Easiest option would be the Tivo + Lifetime service, which does carry a good resale on the secondary market if you decide you don't like the Tivo.    The Roamio is the best Tivo to date, so I think it's a very good option.

Windows Media Center is the next best option, though watching it on another TV requires an extender of some type, be it a Windows PC or Xbox 360.  If you're going to watch it only on one TV then there's no extended needed.  More work to roll your own with WMC, though there's no monthly fee like you have with a Tivo.

MythTV is another option, though more work above a WMC box because it's Linux and a bit more work to get up and running.

Panasonic is the way to go for TVs, man. I've been seeing people talk about dead pixels and TVs burning out in under a year with the other big brands but I've had this thing since 09 and its been flawless. :o hell we still have our old standard def Panasonic TV from the 90s and that beast Still works like a charm. Panasonic makes good stuff. Insignia, Colby, dynex, Westinghouse, rca, lg.. don't do that to yourself.

I wouldn't put LG in the same category as Colby, Dynex, and Insignia, as those three brands are complete crap and LG isn't close to crap.  LG makes some very good sets, including the two that I own, one of which has been going since 2006 without a single issue and the other one since 2010.

RCA, Westinghouse are higher on the food chain than Colby, Dynex and Insignia, yes, though they're not on the same tier as LG.

#11265347 Dragon Age: Inquisition - E3 TRAILER

Posted by shrike4242 on 21 November 2013 - 11:33 PM

I'm starting to fall in the "forget current gen and create games to their fullest potential" camp.  I understand the economics of releasing a game on systems with massive installed bases.  But I, selfishly, just want AAA games to be as good as the hardware will allow.  What I've seen of DAI leaves me unconcerned, though.  It looks damn.  good.

Don't you remember how the 360 games came out on the system's initial release?  It takes developers a while to get up to speed to learn the tricks of the hardware and the XB1 is a different animal than the 360 is.   They've been working on the 360 for quite some time and the engine DA: I is on is the Frostbite 3 engine, which powers BF4 as MSUHitman mentioned.  FB3 will also power Mass Effect 4 as well.

I think DA: I on XB1 may look prettier than the 360 version though that's likely it unless they get up to speed quickly on making the XB1 work that much better than the 360.  Assassin's Creed 4 is an example where it looks prettier on PS4/XB1 than it does on PS3/360, though that's about it.

#11264136 Amazon announces some Black Friday deals

Anyone with a smartphone should get the Amazon app, as that will show what the Lightning Deal schedule is for that day.    Wait until 12AM PT and the schedule for that day should be available right afterwards inside of the app.

#11260936 Best Buy WD 1TB Internal Serial ATA Hard Drive for Laptops/PS4/PS3 64.99

Posted by shrike4242 on 20 November 2013 - 10:31 PM

Can someone tell me the max HDD or HDSD(Hybrid)  physical size- 7mm or 9mm  and space 500GB or 1TB that the ps3 will allow?

I wanted to get the 2.5in HDSD 1TB for my PS3 during black friday but I'm worried about getting the wrong type. I've also heard that I should avoid 7200rpm because of the extra heat produced. Average temp of my room is 60F during winter,  90F during summer

Any help is appreciated.

Most modern 7200 RPM drives don't make any more heat than a 5400 RPM drive do.   That's an old myth.

I have a 750GB Scorpio Black 7200RPM drive in my PS3 Slim and it's not any warmer than when it had the 320GB drive in it.
