Newegg - EVGA GeForce 9800GT videocard - $50 after rebate

03 August 2010 - 05:28 PM

EDIT: Another CAGer, Drakee, pointed out this deal on a GTS 250 for 69.99 after $30 rebate. The card is definitely a big enough improvement to justify the $20 difference.

I thought this deal was too awesome to not post, so I apologize if it's a repost. Newegg is having a "back to school sale" with some awesome deals - undisputedly the best was a EVGA GeForce 9800 GT HDMI 512MB 256-bit DDR3 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card. Two of these babies SLI'd will run almost any PC game at high/max settings, including Crysis. Just make sure you have the minimum 400w PSU or ~650+ for SLI'd.

The lowest I've seen these go was 90, so this is a hell of a deal for (still) one of the better cards on the market. One rebate per household/billing address though, however EVGA is usually pretty good with rebates.

For the other deals (including decently priced DDR3 ram)

[Edit]
Nerd talk for comparison to other cards.

Two SLI'd 9800GTs are comparable to 1 GTX460, which is the most economical $200 card. For $230 you can get the 1GB GTX460, which is slightly more powerful than two SLI'd 9800 GTs, however the drawback to the 9800's is the lack of DirectX 11 support. Above the 460 is the 480, which retails at around $500 dollars. I *believe* 2 460's are a bit better than one 480.

As for Radeon, 1 Radeon HD 5850 ($300) compares to a GTX460 ($230), which compares to two DirectX 11-less 9800GTX's ($100 if you can get two rebates)

I personally picked up one to throw in my setup, which I was going to completely rebuild. I think this will be able to postpone my rebuild for another 6-18 months. :)

[DEAD] Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (DS) - 12.92 Shipped New - J&R

24 January 2010 - 09:32 AM

For those who were unable to find copies @ Walmart when they were 9.99 I figured this is worth a note; cant really see this one getting below 9.99 for a new copy again.

Seems to be 30 copies in stock.

Figured I'd post this one here as it just went down $10.00

I actually never heard anyone mention this game, rightfully so as not even Amazon carries it. Saw it while browsing gamestop a few months back @34.99 I think, passed on it and made a mental note of it. Checked videos/reviews when I got home and it was hardly documented at all, but seemed to be all positive by users. Last B2G1 sale (after Christmas) I saw it at my local GS again and asked for sealed copies, still was 29.99, but they had two copies. Low and behold I checked today and it's 19.99 14.99 online.

It seems like it could be a hidden gem. Gameplay reminds me a lot of PoPoLoCrois - a hybrid SRPG/JRPG. The graphics look beautiful and cheery. On Gamespot, ~20 User Score is 8.8. Professional critics gave it harsh reviews though, averaged 6.5 I believe and saw as low as 4.5. Then again, Brave Story also only got a 6.5 from GameSpot, but IMO is one of the most excellently designed classical JRPGs this generation.

As I said, only availabe at Gamestop and likely has a limited print. Might be a good idea to pick one up NOW if you want a sealed copy, as all of us know how impossible it is to track down sealed games @ B&M Gamestops. Additionally, sealed copies are listed at an inflated 68 on Amazon's Marketplace, used are 34.

[DEAD] OoS AMAZON - Disgaea 2 (PSP) 29.99 (MSRP) - 14 back in stock

02 January 2010 - 10:46 AM

Don't think this is really a "deal" but I saw this earlier today.

http://www.amazon.co...&pf_rd_i=507846

Disgaea 2 PSP is back in stock with only 14 copies. Seems to be a pretty limited print, though don't take my word for it. Last week new copies were going for 55 bucks on Amazon. OOS on gamestop.com and not really sure about everywhere else.

I picked up my copy on gohastings for 32 shipped.

As I said, not a deal but it could be a rare game.
