I dunno, I think you could improve on Binding of Isaac pretty easily. Start with BoI and cut out the entire section of the game where every room is just two monstros over and over and over dragging one floor out to almost an hour. Or just design a real game instead of a crappy roguelike.

Granted, Monster Hunter seems like it would be fantastically easy to improve upon and nobody seems to get the fundamentals down pat while also fixing the problems in the MH formula so maybe it isn't as easy as it sounds.

Remind me, besides PSTV support, what else makes it superior?

Far, far better framerate. Ridiculously so. New levels. Quick restart for missions you've already beaten. Comes with the original SNES game and a never before seen level practice feature for that one.

Witcher 3 reviews I'm reading now admitted faults in Witcher 2 which absolutely none of them did at the time. That game got just as much love as Witcher 3 now gets and I didn't understand it for 2. Won't fool me again.

McCarthy was right though.

"Divinity Original Sin is a full-blown RPG (not action RPG) that supports online co-op?  I didn't think any such thing existed."

Wasn't NWN such a thing?

Also I'm a weapons grade asshole and even I would, after brief indignation, apologize for spoiling someone on a genuine thing they wanted to see. You people have problems. I swear, the trolls and shitposters on this board just make me feel like this is kids 4chan some days.

Fill me in. I love Soul Sacrifice so Delta is an easy buy but I didn't like Monster Hunter 4 3DS that much but would like to give Freedom Wars a try. Why is it so inferior?

Imagine a MonHun monster but you have a machine gun.

Got it pictured?

It's you standing in the back holding shoot and pressing reload for thirty minutes.

Then throw in some obligatory button mashing to cut off monster parts.

And then between missions you have 45 minute long extraordinarily tedious plot fetch quests and the plot is utter crap to boot.

And then you have versus human shooting so imagine Monster Hunter with hitscan weapons and all the idiots using melee weapons against that and allied (And enemy!) AI that makes RE5 Sheva look downright competent and useful. (Only the enemies all have 100% accurate hitscan on you so...)

Still for $5, eh, it's unique.

For comparison, the only stuff I didn't like about SSD was that the plot felt overwrought and hokey rather than effective, the bosses were on average pretty boring, and grind was so ridiculously more important than skill even for a hunting game.

And oh boy I love Avaricious Slime. I wish the story gave us like six more colors of Avaricious Fuck ing Slime and like 30 more opportunities to fight him again. What a great boss. In fact that's the best Fuck ing boss in the history of bosses.

I almost want to post the ROK article but the immense damage against the feels here would surely get me banned. Which isn't the worst of all possible worlds but if I'm getting banned it needs to be funnier than that.

Well, Eve Ensler was consulted and there was that whole group of older women in it called the Vulvaini so...

*Shamelessly stolen joke*

Invisible Inc is pretty good.

Also Tin Man Games FINALLY started dipping into their GOOD gamebooks rather than Fighting Fantasy crap on Steam. Assassin in Orlandes and the sequel Curse of the Assassin hit Steam just a little bit ago. If you like CYOA crap, I recommend those even higher than Judge Dredd and I liked Dredd quite a bit.

Rage retail copies come with the Anarchy Edition DLC, if memory serves. The trick to them was that the anarchy edition was bundled into the main game code but you also had the Anarchy Edition extras as an additional code. At least that's how it was with MY retail Rage.

You can't buy the Anarchy Edition extras on Steam so that makes any extra codes you have for those extras a valuable thing. Not hugely so but it would be a shame if you had extra codes and didn't share/sell.

Are you talking story as in the story that is being told or the story mode?

EOU's story was pretty grating, so grating that I quit halfway through the first dungeon and switched to classic mode. You get five characters who comment about EVERYTHING only it's not endearing like they would be in Persona and they just grate so hard. Everyone throws "anime stereotypes" around like it's nothing but these are four of the most anime-ish anime stereotypes I've seen in a while.

EOU is a remake of the first, least-refined EO game and it feels like it. The characters and the writing, even of the barebones plot of EOU's classic mode just feels less interesting than EO4.

EO4 has no "story mode" equivalent but it certainly has a story. It's mostly just interacting with characters in town but the writing just makes them feel even more alive. The plot itself does not go anywhere unpredictable but you have a mystery, new friends, new enemies, twists, someone to save, a monster to slay, and a few scary truths. It's hits every note competently without wasting your time or betraying your expectations.

Now I haven't gotten far enough in EOU to tell if the story it reveals as you play is worth anything.

That said, EO thrives on its gameplay. If you had asked me a month ago, I would have considered the whole JRPG genre trash. Gameplay-wise, with all the little systems that your characters bring to the table, EO4 was so good it sold me on the JRPG genre again. It's an engaging game, certainly. EOU is not bad, and since it came after EO4 it does do some things different technically. It's less forgiving, less interesting in some places but certainly offers another helping of competent dungeon crawling after EO4, but I do not think it would have hooked in me half as deep as EO4 did had I played it first.

Rockstar's worldcraft is unmatched. Nobody puts as much effort into world design as them. That said, it's all in the service of their worship of neurosis and barely disguised desire to be writing something more "important" than video games.

You would guess correctly. A good rule of thumb is to remember which publishers embraced Steam hard. Squeenix and Bethesda were full Steam ahead. Activision didn't care about Steam until some of the more recent Call of Duty games which I think are full Steamworks (I think this went back to MW2 actually but I'm no CoD historian...). And Ubisoft turned to Steam after lol just seeing if you were paying attention.

Retail versions of Wolf2009 will not activate on Steam. I think it may even be DRM free.

Still a solid game though. Worth $6 if you can find it.
