#13557735 Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

I didn't think School Days was particularly dark either. The ending was more wtf than dark in my opinion. The rest of it was just a guy taking advantage of two girls.

It's garbage show that has a shock-value last 2 episodes. That's the only reason people talk about it still.

So, my whole list has popped up. Great!

How good or Depressing is Grave of the Fireflies?

It's great film by far,but goddamn is it going to make the rest of your dead depressing after your done watching it.

Unrelated, is Aniplex stuff ever on sale for Black Friday? I'm guessing no, but that would be nice...

During the RS sale, though the discounts are very minor.

Huh. I didn't know Scrapped Princess was coming out on Blu Ray.

Does anyone know whether or not it's going to just be an upconvert? I had some difficulty finding details on the Jaoanese BD release (other than something like 20 different Fandompost articles that were carbon copies of each other with different titles)

Also, I'm patiently waiting for the 12+ day sale to start so that I can be disappointed that it's filled with things I already own.

It's most likely going to be a crappy upscale, but it will still look and sound miles better than the old Bandai dvd's

Under Siege:

Enjoyable action film. It's a Seagal film so it has a lot ego-stroking;it works due to an OTT Tommy Lee Jones as the villain. Some pretty brutal deaths too, which you get a lot today.

Under Siege 2:

Glorious 90's schlock. You got a campy villain, dialogue, and terrible effects;which all add up to an really entertaining film. It also has Seagal somehow outrunning a train.

So many moments like that just crack you up

Sausage Party:

It  was meh. So many of the critics talked about how it wasn't just a juvenile comedy and that it was "smart". It had like two thoughts to it,and it beats you over the head with them. Otherwise most of the jokes were just Seth Rogen thinking anthropomorphic food dropping f-bombs was the funniest thing ever, along with a lot of lazy stereotype jokes. Had some clever gags, otherwise it was pretty mediocre.

Titan A.E.:

The definition of bland. It has no imagination to it at all. It had a bunch of setpieces that didn't flow together. Then the mixture of 2D and CG animation didn't work at all,on top of the CG just looking terrible and being unfinished at points.

Sonic Team Confirms Development of New Sonic Game for 25th Anniversary

It'd be great if it were another Sonic Generations. They finally make a good one with that and decide that they had to regress with the series.

It would be great if they started getting out those Bandai titles they got three years ago...

Tremors:

Watched it again due to RLM's recent video discussing it. One thing that sticks out to me is how it respects the audience,by not bogging itself down with pointless scientific explanations to explain these creatures;instead show you everything you need to know. Still a fantastic film that works due to you caring about it's characters and those effects still holdup great.

Is Valkyria 2 worth getting? I loved the original, and when I tried to play VC2 on the PSP, I just couldn't get into it. I'm thinking that at least with PSTV, it would be worth trying.

It's not that good of a game. The smaller scale hurts it and your forced to reply missions a ton of times to advance the story. Then the whole game being bogged down with even more anime clich├ęs than the first made it worse.

Resident Evil 1-3 was scary as hell because you couldnt blast everything to pieces.
And of course those "elite soldiers" wouldnt punch a zombie, they werent trained to fight monsters or ever seen one. It would be shocking for anyone to see a walking decaying corpse.
In the 90s there was hardly any zombie stuff, unlike today, so no one was desensatized to them yet, & they werent seen as goofy monsters with traffic cones on their heads by kids.

What I remember was that you were given a ton of ammo in those games, which made the games even less scary. Even as a kid I never found them really scary at all (3 a little due to being stalked by the Nemesis). The big issue was the games never really had a creepy atmosphere to them (The first Silent Hill was the one that really got to me). The RE1 remake did really good job establishing a creepy atmosphere.

Considering the mess that was MoS, did anyone expect it to be any different? If anything, they'd dial it TO THE XTREME instead of going with what worked to give it some depth, not to mention actually showing us some colors.

I'm going to catch this eventually, but we should all know that going in, this wasn't going to be a gamechanger.

Also it being from the man who did Sucker Punch, which was apparently a deep piece on female empowerment

The problem I have with any "Trapped in a video game" series is the premise itself.  If you want to make a fantasy anime series, then make a fantasy one.  The same goes for sci-fi, or any other genre that the game is that they're stuck playing.

Look at Btooom (is that the right amount of Os?).  I'm not saying that the show is any good, but it's a good example of how simple it is to sidestep that premise.  Instead of them "being trapped in the Btooom game world" they're instead playing a real-life version of this fictional game.

The big issue for me with those series is the blantent wish-filfullment elements. The main characters are totally flawless and attract all the female characters, which is really bad pandering.

For me it was a combination of the well-developed characters and the attention to technical details that made Planetes so enjoyable.

The characters felt like people and not cartoon characters, which is really rare these days. Now if only Makoto Yukimura's other work Vinland Saga could get a show already.
