I'm actually pretty thankful for the $5 off $30.  Has me considering stuff like Ys VIII and Div OS2.

The $5 off is one-time and for not multiple checkouts, correct?

Terms say that it's valid on your first qualifying purchase, so it should be one-time use only.

Also, it's worth mentioning that the next Humble Choice goes live next Friday. Might be a good idea to wait and see what's in that since you'll still have six days left in the Summer Sale.

I always like hearing about kids watching horror movies.

My earliest movie memory was of a horror movie I saw when I was 3-4.

1983, I was seven. My parents wanted to go to the movies to see "Easy Money"; I didn't. They obliged me and left me at my grandparents (which was actually just the apartment upstairs), under the care of my nine-years-older cousin. My grandparents had "On TV", the cable 'precursor' and said cousin, decided that she and I should watch a movie. That movie: "Creepshow". Two of the vignettes stick out "The Crate" (the only one I remembered by name) and  "They're Creeping Up on You". "The Crate" was standard 'boogeyman' type fare, with something scary lurking in the shadows. Okay, that was bad. But "Creeping" was the one that really got to me. Three years prior, just before my fourth birthday, we had moved into a new building (same one referenced above). Well, the people before us apparently were *really* dirty and the building was infested with roaches. It took several days for us to get Orkin in and, in the meantime, we had to live with roaches. The thing about them scattering when the lights come on is real. They would be everywhere, like it was a roach Disneyland.

Orkin did their thing and over the course of a few weeks, the problem was eliminated, but the memory remained. "Creeping" brought all that back to my immediate mind and I was terrified to be in the house, thinking that, this time, the roaches would win; crawling into my mouth while sleeping and kill me from the inside. I *still* get freaked out about it today, even though we joked about "i Finally got my cake" from 'Father's Day' back in middle school. Just cant shake it....

Persona 4 Golden is cool and I'm glad it's no longer trapped on the Vita but I already played it for hundreds of hours. Disappointed there was no news on Judgment, Yakuza 6, or Horizon Zero Dawn.

The Steam version of Amalur went on sale plenty of times.  I believe I got it for $5 years ago.  Not sure what a re-master is going to do....  the game is laughably easy, even on the hardest difficulty.  The game world is sterile and empty and smacks of Curt Schilling wanting to make his own World of Warcraft (many of the 'zones' ape WoW so much it's staggering).  In short, it's hyper-generic despite the fun combat.  It is, at best, an unfinished budget title that should have been priced around $15 retail.

Man, I wish the Joystiq article was still online about this.

(Link redirects to Engadget main page now - OG link: http://www.joystiq.c...pre-production/).

BHG (Big Huge Games) made KOA:R, not 38 Studios.

38 Studios (in Rhode Island) was busy working on Copernicus (KOA MMO) for 5 years. 38 Studios did not work on the assets or much of anything for KOA:R.

BHG reworked Ascendant (a cancelled game with THQ, after THQ folded) to fit into KOA IP, once Curt bought out BHG.

Supposedly, at least $105 million was spent on Copernicus alone - https://www.gamespot...y/1100-6388664/

Some quotes from Joystiq article:

Speaking to former Big Huge Games employees, we asked what they felt was the most inaccurate portrayal of the 38 Studios implosion by the media. They expressed that Reckoning's development being tied to 38 Studios Rhode Island has been the biggest gaffe.

Former BHG employees repeatedly tell Joystiq that 38 Rhode Island did give info and guidance about the Amalur IP, but it didn't produce any assets for Reckoning. In terms of the day-to-day work, the Rhode Island team "didn't work on it at all."

"Reckoning was developed with EA publishing money, NOT Rhode Island tax dollars," a former BHG employee told us. "It had nothing to do with the $50 million dollars from RI. That money went directly to the MMO project."

Mafia 3:

I've had it on the PC for a while. I'll share some thoughts.

Once you get beyond the game's first great 3 linear hours or so with great storytelling, presentation, and immersion - the game unfortunately opens up itself too much, turning more into a UbiSoft open-world template here with meaningless collect-a-thons, destroy-a-thons, fetch quests, and other MMO-like quests (Kill X guys, defeat X guys, go to X areas, etc) than say a GTA game normally does (barring GTA: Online).

Yeah, GTA has some of these MMO-like quests, sure...but they actually often have interesting and crafted missions; I'm not counting GTA: Online here though. Unfortunately, a lot of the great storytelling & presentation gets broken-up way too much b/c it's at odds w/ the game's grind-y open-world stuff.

I highly recommend M3's DLC's/Season Pass because once the game opens up...you really need the DLC's to break-up a lot of the grind and UbiSoft open-world MMO-quest-a-thon. There's a more lot more mission types and variety of gameplay in the DLC's - i.e. for example, Faster Baby DLC has some vehicular combat type of missions.

The modern day AC stuff is essentially the ketchup on the AssCreed pizza.

Incidentally, I've been playing AC: Origins again to do all the DLC stuff and that game always had the distinction of being the only modern-day Ubisoft game where I haven't glitched through the bottom of the game world. Well, not anymore!

I just learned that Square Enix has a bundle on Steam: "Square Enix Stay Home & Play JRPG Collection" for $49.84. It has Dragon Quest XI, Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age, Oninaki, and Chrono Trigger. If you're missing just Oninaki, it can be purchased for $14.24. Good thing I saw it, as I was about to pay more on another store.

Anybody been playing anything good of late?

I'm around 12 hours into XCOM: Chimera Squad. And it's really good, so far.

Breach Mode is cool. So, since this game is basically the XCOM: Cop Squad, more or less, with humans, aliens, and even robots on your team - you will breach into rooms & buildings to get bonuses (or sometimes even debuffs), all depending on what items you have in your crew, who holds the items, where you're breaching (there are often different ways to go into a room). Often, each mission and encounter (and yes, you can have multiple encounters and breaches within one big mission). Basically, Breaching feels like a surprise attack when you go in, every time. And it feels like VATS from Fallout 3, with how cinematic the camera is, withe the way things look and act. It's just awesome.

Once you Breach, you go into combat. And combat here is a blast to watch and play. You have to play smart, strategic & whatnot. Of course, it's XCOM, so it's all turn-based. You can save at pretty much anytime that it's one of your squad's turn. Attacks look like VATS, when you execute them, as they go all cinematic on you and whatnot. Lethal combat here is just an awesome blast.

Besides killing enemies, you can even arrest enemies now. Instead of them dying, you hit them with a melee attack and knock them unconscious. Once the mission's over, you might get some kind of reward from arresting enemies. Rewards could be benefits, special items, information, and/or who knows what from arresting enemies. So, if possible and necessary, this is just another option and tool for the player to use, when in combat.

Your squad are all named & pre-planned characters. There's a little over 10 of these guys, that you can recruit. All of them are voice-acted and will do banter, especially back at your HQ. The banter is often funny, sarcastic, hilarious, and/or entertaining. You don't create your own crew here and name them from scratch here, but you can select with each mission who goes (usually up to 4 guys on a mission). Also, they all have skills, stats, and whatnot you can upgrade - and they also have their own special skills too. There's no permadeath here. But if a member goes down in combat, they can get scars...which give them debuffs until you train the scars out of them when they are not in the (main) field, when you train them back at your main HQ. If you hire robots into your squad, when a member goes down, a robot can come in to help & then replace the downed member.

Your main HQ is where you decide how to outfit your crew; level-up and upgrade your crew; buy weapons/items/supplies/etc; train members to improve them (and also remove scars, if any of your crew members earned them while in battle); etc etc. You also decide what missions to take on here too, in the main room.

Also, at the main table with the view of the map of the entire city of City 31, you have to keep an eye on how run down the City is going here with problems, in each district & with the overall City 31. You can send your crew on missions that aren't the main ones for a day or few; do missions to keep each district's an overall City 31 level of heat in check (to make sure it doesn't get overrun); etc etc.

The game's story and plot is as follows: you're trying to go about finding out, in any way you can, which faction killed the Mayor of City 31 and why. City 31 is a city, which is the first for a new alliance and integration of humans & aliens both into one city on Earth. There's a human-only faction; alien-only faction; and a faction that contains both humans and aliens - and you're to go about finding out which faction is involved with the murder of your Mayor, as someone is not happy with the Mayor pushing for this integration of humans & aliens on Earth.

1080p60fps+ easy on my SC15 laptop (i7 7700HQ; 16 GB RAM; 6GB GTX 1060; W10 x64) at High settings. Often, it's in the 70-90fps range. Looks good, runs great. On my old desktop at 1080p at High (i7 950; 16 GB RAM; GTX 970) W10 x64) - framerates bounces here and there b/t 30-60fps. So, to keep it safe, kept it where it drops often w/ MSI Afterburner with a framerate lock of 40fps.

So far, so good. Real good. Need to play more. This game rules.

With my own money was probably Arcanum. I never quite got the handle around it thought, but it was ambitious and alright.

Oh, man. Arcanum was great. That diamond in the rough is so underrated.

That's (the diamond in the rough part) is par for the course though w/ all of Troika's games. Thank God for modding communities for TOEE, Bloodlines, and of course Arcanum.

Arcanum so has that old school Fallout-style CRPG gameplay (especially if you run it mostly in turn-based mode) with orcs, elves, steampunk, magic, and the Industrial Revolution.

And the was score/soundtrack was amazing. Unique as hell too.

Definitely use the unofficial DrogBlackTooth's patch or the Multi-Verse Edition, to play it these days.
