#13626695 Limited Run Games Thread - Global Outbreak of...Delayed Shipping

Posted by trinken wir on 11 February 2017 - 12:53 AM

Just wanted to say I am a fan of the "new" boxes.  I mostly just grab the vita releases, but the few PS4 ones I have bought have almost all been floaters.  Oxenfree did not come loose in transit.  Hope the boxes don't cut into the bottom line too much.

Thanks for working to fix the loose disk problem.

Interesting, thanks for that info! So it can be safely dated pre-2016 then. That puts it into 2014 - 2015 release window, interesting.

No, not all European releases feature English as an option. The more mainstream titles you just named do typically have English as either a option, or even reportedly sometimes as the only language regardless of the cover art language, but it does vary from title to title. As example, the Tadeo Jones games, for which there are two, come to mind as titles which are reportedly only in Spanish.

Figuring out the European releases is undeniably difficult as the whole of the continent is the same region code but not every game gets released in every country due, primarily, to language barrier and secondly due to licensing agreements. Primary release nations for Vita games in Europe, in order of majority share are England/Great Britain/United Kingdom/Boaty McBoatface/Whatever-name-they-opt-for-next, Germany, Spain, and France (thankfully those last three nations have simple names). Other of the European nations have had, and likely will have again, releases though but these are much harder to keep track of due to lower print runs, Cyrillic language barriers, and unknown methods of promotion and distribution within the target release nation. Typically these type releases end up being sub-licensed non-localized games with only required nation specific case art featuring the nations specific rating logo and a disclaimer about what language(s) the game is playable in.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the European releases is really the utter lack of them and the complete neglect on Sony's part to attempt reaching out to the consumer market in big high-populace countries such as the Czech Republic and Russian Federation. They've made great strides at developing product presence in Southeast Asia over the last few years which has obviously work fantastic for them giving them market share there. But still no sign of them following in Sega's footsteps with establishing themselves in the Brazilian market, where Sega dominated from the late 80's through the mid-90's thanks to their partnership with Tec Toy. Oh well, we've never accused Sony's leadership of being competent.

Both of the Tadeo games have the option to be played in English.  The first one has an English option at the title screen (https://www.youtube....h?v=muh0ExRMVOM).  I found a review of the second one where the reviewer seemed to think that it auto-detects switches to English if that is how your Vita is set (https://www.youtube....h?v=KUjOqKnxFxk).

I have not bought one, but I have seen a few games pop up on eBay that are from Eastern Europe that appear to be multilingual.

I think I asked before and didn't find anyone, but...anyone have 2.0 on PS4 and willing to help me get the multiplayer trophy? Are the servers still going? If I can still do it I want to do it, but running out of time.

I don't mind helping if you can find the two other people we'd need to join us, as I don't really know anyone myself (I myself need help doing some feats in 3.0 PS4 and nobody has piped up to help -- Do you have 3.0 on PS4?)

I have 2.0 and 3.0 on PS4 and would like to get the trophies that require the game to be online.  I beat the Avenger level, but I have not played anything else in 2.0.  I have not really started 3.0 other than doing the intro.  Do I need to get to a certain point on my own to do the online stuff?  I have two controllers so I think I can count as two players.

Also would like to do the 1.0 ones, but I have that on Xbox 360.

Wish I could find Oddworld Stangers Wrath at a reasonable price. All these ebay sellers are selling it for $60+!

Not sure how much cheaper you would expect to find this.  I would suspect that in a few months $60 will seem like a deal.

Original cost was $30 plus $5.25 shipping.  Ebay takes 10% then Paypal takes ~3% plus they have to box it and pay to ship it.  Break even for the person selling it on Ebay is close to $44.

Most of the people "scalping" these releases are only making a few bucks and I cannot see how it is worth the time and effort, but to each their own.

Not in Japan

It is still going strong in Europe as well.  It is closing in on 15 million units world wide with over 5 million in Japan, almost 5 million in Europe and 2.5 million in North America.  For the last week reported (week ending 11/26) it moved 23,862 units in Europe and 11,461 in Japan with 3,768 in North America (a large increase for NA from the last few weeks).

North America is where it is struggling the most.  There was a Lego Star Wars bundle in Europe that I think would have done very well in the US, but at this point there are almost no retailers still supporting the system.

For those upset about the print run keep in mind that the first Odd World they offered was 2,500 copies.  Doomstink said they wanted to do more and fought just to get up to 2,500.  This run was 4,500 regular and 1,000 PAX copies.  This is over double what the last one was so I think they probably did as much as they could to get to that size run.  Remember the print run is as much about the publisher's wishes as it is about Limited Run's.

I wish I had of bought more than one copy of Breach and Clear too, but you know what it was readily available for $40-50 on eBay for months after it was released.  Any of you could have been picking them off of eBay and reselling them now.  You can't blame the guy for speculating.  It is a free market stop complaining; it is like bitching about the price of stocks on the stock market.  I would have liked to have bought Google at its IPO too.

Peoples wanted Vita version over PS4 version.  They should print extra 100 or 200 more copies than PS4 version :)

There were 5,000 copies for PS4 and 2,500 copies for vita, so technically the PS4 version did sell better.  Would have been interesting if they had printed the same amount for each.  Futuridium (the next release) is 2,000 for each platform.

Noticed I can now download Star Wars Battlefront II (PSP) direct to the vita without a PS3.  Looks like several of the Star Wars PSP games are showing as PSP and PS Vita on the webstore.  (I think most of them worked before via PS3 transfer).

Anyone played Force Unleashed on PSP/ Vita?

So Star Wars Battlefront 2 works on the Vita if i transfer it from my PS3, right? Is it any good?

The transfer via PS3 worked for me but I have not played it yet. Going to play later today but that will not help you now. I am fairly certain it is worth 90 cents.

You, my friend, don't even know the half of it. If you don't have a Vita, get it now, that is the ultimate dad gaming machine.

First off congrats.
I will second this. No vita no gaming for you for the first six months. Then a small break until they start walking and then all you do is chase them around so they don't get hurt. Worth every moment but I do miss vegging out on the couch and playing games.
I think GameStop has them new for 170 right now. Grab Gravity Rush for a buck from the flash sale. Nap time can be vita time too. In fact it is right now!

Very rare for someone to prefer physical copies of Vita games over digital. I have over 30 games on my 64gb card and still have 32gb of space left.

My thought exactly.
Several games I probably would have bought if they were physically released in the us. FF x, ratchet and clank, soul sacrifice delta child of light. I skipped ragnarok ace for the last sale because it was worth an extra 8 bucks to not have it digitally. Sony is much better about supporting previous gen but at some point you won't have access to your digital games.

I would like to see some of the indie studios put their collections out as a physical release. To each their own.
