#12598885 Gamer mom/dad thread

Posted by Tybee on 28 March 2015 - 03:34 AM

Huh...How have I not found this thread before?

So hi... Proud papa of twin boys -- Finn and Jude. They'll be turning three this weekend.

Just started back in on my somewhat esoteric backlog. Playing Telltale's Jurassic Park right now on PS3 (had a disc copy for 360 but after ~3 years of neglect, fired up my 360 last week only to see it red ring). But was able to get it for like 80 cents in that crazy PSN sale last week, so no harm no foul. Halfway through and enjoying it so far, quicktime events not withstanding. Even lesser Telltale games scratch the itch for me.

Wait... Someone posted wildly inaccurate news to the Internet precipitated by poor reading comprehension? I'm shocked. SHOCKED.

I'm a longtime Animal Crossing fanatic. Logged the most time on the GCN original and Wild World. City Folk was a disappointment so barely played that. But finally just got New Leaf this week and it's absolutely true what people say: it really is the best incarnation of the game. The mayor aspect adds so much (when the last three iterations have changed very little), and there are just all sorts of little tweaks to the core gameplay that eliminate a lot of the little annoyances that were always just part of the package. Just so great. Can't wait to hook up with some of you guys online.

Disney Magical World - April 11th release date

It might not be on many people's radar, but I'm hearing decent things about the game. If you like Animal Crossing, this may be a worthwhile buy.

Yeah, as both a huge Disney nerd and an Animal Crossing addict, this has my interest piqued. But I have to say, the art style and general feel I've seen in the videos leaves me a little cold. But like you, I've heard good advance word, so reserving judgment.

As has been previously mentioned, there's impetus to play the DS Layton games as soon as possible to get all of the free downloadable bonus puzzles each one includes before Nintendo shuts down Wii/DS Internet access in May. You don't have to play all the way through to unlock the bonus puzzle feature... Just a little ways in to each one. Will net you ~20-30 bonus puzzles (unrelated to the central story) for each game. Also, talking about our favorite aspects, mine may be weird: the art style, the music, and the little collect mini games you're playing on the side.

"Download Later" just means it will begin downloading when the 3DS is in sleep mode after you close it. It's helpful in that you are free to do other things on the 3DS instead of being stuck staring at the sequence while waiting for it to finish downloading.

Ah, I was wondering how all the Level 5 games I bought this morning and opted to download later suddenly appeared this evening. Guess that explains that.

Dumb that it won't let you buy for later if you don't have enough space, but I guess I could see how some idiot would complain that they let him spend his money when he didn't have room to actually download and play the game.

All this Natsume talk. Gonna go real old school on y'all now: Any Survival Kids fans here? How about Legend of the River King? I would love to see quality 3DS updates of those franchises (I think both had various sequels that were pretty weak).

Just nabbed MK7 for $14.99 at Best Buy. I price matched with Target's Boxing day deal here in the states, but obviously YMMV.

Tempting, but I couldn't do this with a straight face.

I can't seem to find an XBOX 360 VGA cable on monoprice.com? Do I just have poor search skills, or don't they carry them?

Sorry. I don't believe they carry gaming cables (i.e., cables that include a proprietary connector for a console).
