#14215410 $100 PSN credit for $85 on Rakuten with coupon code ANT15

Posted by Josh1billion on 02 October 2019 - 03:00 AM

To further sweeten the deal, you can get 5% cash back if you have a Chase Freedom credit card.  You need to 1. activate the cash back promo on their site if you haven't yet, and then 2. pay with PayPal using that credit card.

Rakuten also gives you 1% back, aka 85 cents off your next purchase with them.

About 20% off altogether if you play it right.

Really fun game so far.  Best CoD in years.

Oh man. I didn't see Pixeljunk Monsters 2 Deluxe was on sale for even cheaper than the base game, and wound up buying the base game instead. Gah.

Edit: contacted Sony's support chat, and they refunded it. Made the upgrade to Deluxe afterward. Woot.

In on Radiant Historia.  Pirated it way back in the day when I couldn't afford it, so it's time to make it right.

Just passing by to say thanks Frisky for maintaining this thread (and the other threads). Keeping up with these sales would suck if not for these handy lists.

I too listen to their Sacred symbols podcast. It's a really fun and enjoyable podcast. The personal politics of Colin aside, it really doesn't come up, it's just a playstation centric podcast. I really don't get the fuss over them.

I've noticed that there's a weird anti-conservative bend in the industry these days.

Last year, I received PMs from 3 or 4 people telling me not to associate with (i.e., don't send review copies of my games to) this one indie game journalist.  Saying he had horrible views or something.  They linked me to tweets from the guy's personal Twitter account (which wasn't even associated with his review site).

The offenses committed in those tweets?  He expressed his support for the president/his policies, and he made a couple of jokes these people found offensive.  Edgy jokes for sure, but nothing worse than you can find in a Comedy Central stand-up act, so...

I'm not going to blacklist someone for their political views, or for making a raunchy joke, so yeah I didn't comply with their request.

Colin is great. Best voice in the gaming industry. We need more content creators like him.

Agreed.  And PAX still won't give a reason as to why they canceled his panel.  Pretty lame.

I knew if I complained long enough about Nintendo's 10% discounts, they'd take notice and ramp things up.

Goodbye $53.99 games, hello $0.19 games. :)

Bargain Hunter - $11.24 - 10% Off

A game called Bargain Hunter is a whopping 10% off... Feels like this was all planned out by the developer as a next-level way of poking fun at Nintendo's idea of a "sale" lol

I used up my 20% coupon in the sale too.  Had been waiting for another Resident Evil 2 sale to use it.

Hey guys, my puzzle game Super Blackout is on sale for 80% off this week ($0.99): https://store.steamp...Super_Blackout/ .  It's a port of my first PS Vita game you might have seen me post about in the PSN Weekly Deals thread a few times: a lights-out styled game with 90 stock puzzles, a random puzzle generator, and a custom puzzle editor. :)

I picked up Emerald Shores (gotta support a fellow CAG) and Song of the Deep. Still thinking about getting Dirt 4 and will be picking up my pre-order of MLB The Show 19 MVP Edition at GS soon.

Can Kaz and House please come out of retirement?  Ryan and Layden are really making some poor decisions over there.

Side note on Emerald Shores, the game made by fellow CAG Josh1billion. I got the platinum last night, and the game is actually quite fun, definitely much better than the 4/10 review score CornShack gave it.  Going for the low level run trophy, I attempted the final boss at level 6 and couldn't get it done.  Luckily, this was on my 3rd play through so I hadn't done some of the side levels yet and was able to go and level to 7 which was just enough to beat him.  Side note, 1-3 is super frustrating and might be the hardest level in the game.

Thank you guys :)

Regarding level 1-3: yeah, I totally dropped the ball on the difficulty ramp there - that level's been the hardest one for pretty much everybody.  I even patched it after release just to make it easier (removing a bunch of spikes, etc.), but it's still a major pain compared to the levels that come after it.

Emerald Shores actually looks interesting and I do like the graphics, and I'm always up for supporting fellow indie devs and CAGs, but I'm a little skiddish after reading the "pros and cons" list at the playstationtrophies.org game forum. Have any of those issues been addressed in a patch?

Just looked it up, and wow that's the most negative review I've seen.  FWIW, it looks like all of that guy's posts on the forum are just negative reviews of random games with the username "ThisGameSucks".  Some of his criticisms are valid, but some don't really make any sense or seem accurate.  Like "blind jumps"... aside from one kinda sketchy spot at the end of the first cave level, I think all of the falls have coins to lead you where you're supposed to go.

TBH, reviews are kind of all over the place on this one.  Some love it, some hate it, but if you search for Emerald Shores reviews, the average tends to fall somewhere right in the middle.  Which I think is spot on: if I were looking at it objectively and didn't have any involvement in it, I'd give it about a 6/10 myself, which is where most of the reviews ended up.  Nothing amazing, hence the cheap price, but a good and unique experience if you're into challenging platformers that have a lot of variety.  It's a tough one, but the level-up system is there so that the difficulty slides depending on how much grinding you do, allowing you to hang back and feed on the spongey enemies if you find it to be too difficult.

The controls/physics are basically the sticking point that determines whether someone enjoys it, and I've found that's been a very subjective thing that varies depending on who's playing it.  I've seen reviews that say the controls are "loose" and I've seen reviews that say the controls are "tight", lol.. complete opposite reactions.  Basically comes down to: if the controls feel wrong to you, you probably won't like the game much, but if they feel right, you probably will.  I tried to model the feel after Super Mario World's physics, which I personally think was the best feel of the series, but I know a lot of people disagree there.  The hitboxes are a common source of criticism too, and there are definitely some issues there, but it's mostly fine after you get past about level 2-1.  Even there, I've seen people play through it without ever running into any issues.  I released a patch that resolved a lot of issues that were present at launch, but there are still some to fix.

All that said... one major strength of the game is that I worked to put a ton of variety into it so that the game never gets stale/repetitive, and that's something most reviewers picked up on as a major positive.  A bunch of minigames, a handful of sidequests that give rewards useful in the rest of the game, various level-specific mechanics (ride on a sleigh in the winter levels, make sure you stay hydrated in the desert levels), a multiplayer co-op "Tails mode" type of easter egg (just press X on a second controller), and so on.  Even the soundtrack has a lot of variety with 20-something different music tracks.  And then there's the Remix Mode that gives you an opportunity to play through the game with some subtle level rearrangements that make it a bit more challenging.

I was wondering myself why there was no preview video or even a single screenshot on PSN.

Oh weird, you're right - I didn't notice the Vita page doesn't have the screenshots and video on it for some reason.  The PS4 page has em though: https://store.playst...MERALDSHORES001

Here's a video that shows about 90% of the game's Normal mode content:

You should get a video up if possible so we can all see it in action.

I'm interested in seeing what that External Exodus is all about if that's one of yours.

Yup, that's the game I'm working on right now.  Aiming to have it done by the end of this year. :)

I should have some cool stuff to show in a couple of months here.  The things I'm chipping away at now are mostly things that aren't very interesting to show: menu screens and such.  Think those will all be done within about a month, and then I'll be focused on dungeon design, cutscenes, boss battles, etc. - all the cool stuff that I can put into screenshots and trailers.

Emerald Shores is 40% off ($5.99), has separate trophy lists on PS4 & Vita, and cross-buy is mentioned on the Vita listing: https://store.playst...MERALDSHORES001

IIRC, this was developed by a CAG.

That CAG is me lol. Thanks for posting it :)
