Because I can't locate my existing thread (purged?), I'll have to get started on a new one here! At the moment however, all I've got to spare is in that lowball sale. That subforum is like a ghost town these days, but there's some quality stuff in there. If you haven't popped your head in, take a look. There's something for everybody in there.

I'll even make it easy on ya: https://www.cheapass...ain/?p=13769028

#12014368 2014 Yardsale thread

Posted by aptanor on 16 August 2014 - 06:40 PM

I never used to have the chance to go to yard sales due to my work schedule, so I'm embracing my new work schedule and trying to get out as much as possible. I had two places planned, one I found out last night another local online had already snaked and the other they were holding stuff for me, but I got a text on my way over that the woman holding the sale's father had already sold what she was supposed to be holding for me. I was pretty ticked on both accounts, but I decided to go out anyway, and found 2 sales that weren't listed anywhere. Got everything here plus 10 N64 controllers, 7 Sega Genesis controllers, and a Gamecube controller and power cord for $72 total.

#12011651 Your collection - post a photo - show us what'cha got!

Posted by aptanor on 15 August 2014 - 05:36 PM

Here's the pics of my new setup. I haven't got a chance to get frames for my posters yet, so the stack of posters is sitting on a little rolling table I use for arcade sticks and such. TV is a piece of junk, it only has RF in the back so just the NES/SNES/Genesis are plugged in. I had to leave my Trinitron behind when we moved, so I haven't bothered plugging in my other systems yet. Hopefully getting one this weekend.

And here's pics of the individual shelves and consoles. Can't figure out where my Xbox got packed, so it's not under the 3DO where it should be :/

#12000007 2014 Dumpster Dive Thread

Posted by aptanor on 11 August 2014 - 05:38 PM

This may not be in spirit of the thread but I saved these games from a local BestBuy from being thrown away.

A lady walked in with all these and wanted to recycle them. I got in touch with the manager in the store and instead of more or less throwing them away I was allowed to take them. They were already in the recycle bin the store had in the back so it's possible I missed some but I got all the ones I could find.

The list is

Gameboy Color *some of the batteries are dead and games cant be saved*

Pokemon Gold x2

Pokemon Blue

Pokemon Red

Star Wars Obi-Wan's Adventures

Nintendo 64(I don't have a N64 to see if these work)

Mischief Makers

Knockout Kings 2000

Aerofighters Assault

Superman 64

Mario Party 2

Donkey King 64

Super Mario 64

WCW/NWO Revenge

Pokemon Stadium 2

Wrestlemania 2000

WCW VS NWO World Tour

Ready 2 Rumble Boxing

Wave Race

Pokemon Stadium

Starfox 64

MegaMan 64

Nintendo 64 Jumperpak

All the N64 games could be broken but they all seem to be in great condition

All games are only the games with no boxes or manuals

That's an awesome catch. Saves some of this stuff from getting essentially thrown away. I had a similar, though not anywhere as good, find at gamestop a while back. Someone tried to trade in a bunch of GB/GBA/Game Gear games to Gamestop and I saw them sitting on the back counter, the employees let me have them instead of chucking them. Got a free Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Sapphire (? I think?) and some neat Game Gear games.

If you aren't interested in the 64 games I'd take some of them off your hands, or alternatively if you want to play them I've got a spare system. Let me know.

I found this in a gamestop dumpster a while back. Had to find a new way to affix the shelves, and it's missing two of the magnetic Starcraft 2 signs (which, if you have one, let me know! I need the one on the front and the one that matches the one you can see in the pic to go on the other side.) but it's an awesome heavy duty metal shelving unit.

I'm actually more interested in Contrast than I am in a watered down racer, so that works for me :v

#11140492 2013 Yard Sale Thread

Posted by aptanor on 17 October 2013 - 12:44 PM

Actually found something at a yard sale for once! N64 with 4 controllers, all have solid sticks, $10, wanted $15. They said they have some games somewhere, and that they'll call if they find them. They mentioned Mario Kart, so while it'd be great if they find them I'm not holding my breath.

Not even remotely. Only thing I'm actually planning on getting at launch is watch dogs, and of course the freebies from ps+. I want better more creative games and new ideas, I don't care who makes them or what platform they're on.

Or an entirely new ip, I think, is what most were hoping for. And I for one really don't care what epic is working on, the one thing there is an endless supply of its gritty fpses, which is kinda their strong suit. If they show something legitimately original they'll have my interest.

Where are you seeing Sony was planning to use the same sort of DRM as MS? The only evidence is that they patented something that could possibly have been that several months ago, but Sony stated that was completely unrelated to the PS4 and is for another product in development. Whether that's actually true is shaky, but we really don't know one way or the other.

And Sony helped themselves by doing right by their consumers. Their goals coincided with what people wanted them to do, so everyone wins.

The reddit link on the previous page. Click the user post history and read a few of his other posts.

It's clear he's working/knows someone working in a gaming studio, question is which one. Says it isnt EA, but it isnt small either. Must be multiplat, so I'm thinking Ubisoft, but who knows.

Might be. Isn't any more substantiated than anybody else posting on a forum (like the family sharing quote above), so who knows.

After reading through that I still don't understand how that guy can keep saying that Sony is saving GS when the MS DRM supported them completely.

They were likely going to be a authorized reseller, however I think we all know the plan was to eventually simply go all digital and phase GS out completely.

It's funny though, people are linking the family plan as if its gospel and yet are going to ignore a same anon that says Sony was doing the exact same thing as MS.

Neither of them are solid fact though. Honestly I'm more persuaded to believe that Sony wasn't planning to do DRM than to believe MS wanted to let 10 people all share the same copy of a game.

Makes me wonder whose head(s) at Microsoft rolled over this fiasco.

All I can say is thank you Sony for saving the console game industry.

Your bullshit is starting to get annoying Rippn. Like, seriously.

Saving the console industry? You mean keeping it in the 90's?

Like they were discussing on Reddit, we'll have Starship's out in outer space, but you better keep my damn disc based console or else!

Yours is too. Some people (obviously the majority) prefer to have physical media. Just because you think everything should go full digital immediately doesn't mean everybody else should have to take a ride in your "logic train".

I guess this means you're not buying one now that it supports used games right? RIGHT? I mean shit, you're railing against used games for weeks now.

This! Oh the hypocrisy!!

I am just saying they had my money now the race is even. Lets see who wins!

"BOOM! X1 WINS" Doesn't exactly sound like "Now the race is even" to me :v

So if rumors of MS dropping online requirement, DRM and used games allowed, who of the people that "boycotted" or decided to make the switch to playstation would now reconsider getting one now?

I'll probably get one used at some point, as oppose to before when I wouldn't have wanted it if they were giving them away. Definitely won't be getting it anytime soon though, the fact that they tried to pull this in the first place makes me less than inclined to give them money.

Great news for X1 buyers.

Still not interested, but good for everyone else who's interested.

This. Even if they back peddle on it now, the fact that they tried to pull this in the first place makes me wary.

I can't get the article to load, can somebody copy paste it for me?
