Dell notebook battery recall

15 August 2006 - 01:41 AM

Run a google search on "dell battery recall", and you'll find a couple of news articles on Dell's annoucement today.

This site seems to have the most information so far.

Dell Announces Battery Recall; Instructions on Company's Web Site Tuesday at 1 A.M. Central Daylight Time

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and other regulatory agencies worldwide, Dell is today announcing the voluntary recall of approximately 4.1 million Dell-branded lithium-ion batteries with cells manufactured by Sony. Under rare conditions, it is possible for these batteries to overheat, which could cause a risk of fire.

The recalled batteries were sold with the following Dell notebook computers: Dell Latitude™ D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610,D620, D800, D810; Inspiron™ 6000, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 500m, 510m, 600m, 6400, E1505, 700m, 710m, 9400, E1705; and DellPrecision™ M20, M60, M70 and M90 mobile workstations; and XPS™, XPS Gen2, XPS M170 and XPS M1710. The batteries were also sold separately, including in response to service calls. "Dell" and one of the following are printed on the batteries: "Made in Japan" or "Made in China" or "Battery Cell Made in Japan Assembled in China." The identification number for each battery appears on a white sticker. Customers should have this number available when they contact Dell to determine if their battery is part of the recall.

Customers should contact Dell to determine if their notebook computer battery is part of this recall. Please visit the firm's Website at www.dellbatteryprogram.com beginning at 1 a.m. Central Daylight Time Aug. 15 or call toll-free at 1-866-342-0011, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. Customers may continue to use the notebook computers safely by turning the system off, ejecting the battery, and using the AC adapter and power cord to power the system until the replacement battery is received. Customers can also write to: Dell Inc., Attn: Battery Recall, 9701 Metric Blvd., Austin, Texas 78758.

I bought an Inspiron back in Dec '04, so I guess I'll be checking out Dell's website tomorrow morning.

Do you keep track of your movie/tv series/anime collections online?

01 August 2006 - 04:55 PM

Just wondering how many CAGs keep track of their DVDs and box sets online. I just found out that you can create a personal account on IMDb and manage your lists on there. Does anyone use IMDb or another website for this kinda stuff?

Free phone calls with jajah. What's the catch?

29 July 2006 - 02:41 AM

I just came across this website that offers a new twist on VoIP telephony. You use their site to enter your phone number and your friend's phone number. Their server calls your number, you pick up the phone, then it calls your friend's number. You're both using your regular phones; no one needs a headset or microphone tied to a PC. Apparently it's free between jajah users, even for certain countries outside of the US.

I'm gonna try making an overseas call later. I wonder if it's too much to hope the sound quality doesn't suck.

Contest: Free Disc 2 Only of Appleseed Limited Edition + Metal Case

13 July 2006 - 08:35 PM

I happen to have an extra copy of the Appleseed Limited Edition Disc 2 + the metal keepcase. Disc 1 was damaged beyond repair, so I had to throw it out. Rather than throwing out Disc 2 I figured I'll just give it away.

I doubt this will appeal to many CAGs, but hell, maybe someone out there owns the regular edition and wants to see what's on the bonus disc. According to AnimeOnDVD, Disc 1 of the Limited Edition is exactly the same as the one disc you get with the regular edition (review).

This isn't really a contest. I put that in the title so people don't think some website is giving away dozens of these. If you're interested, just a post a comment in here, and I'll do a random drawing next week. And no, I don't mind paying the $2 for shipping. CAG's been good to me.

Edit: Congrats to mannam23 for winning the random drawing!
