#13064553 Black Friday 2015 Video Game Deals - Master Thread

Posted by Central Scrutinizer on 27 November 2015 - 08:06 PM

I don't see the appeal of 3 older games with a fresh coat of paint on them.  I want to find the Star Wars limited edition bundle but so far, there aren't any deals on it.  Like another poster already stated, where are the extra controller bundles?  I have seen much better deals on Xbox One and Wii U but I already have them.  No real incentive for me to get a PS4 unless some better deals happen.

I was thinking about getting one, but, like you, I just didn't see the value.  Already played UC 1 and 2, 3 is supposedly the worst of the lot.  Have plenty of stuff on the XBO to keep me busy...maybe next year I'll aim for $249 and a better bundle deal.

Striker P1 and ZX are $39.99.   Striker Pro P1 is $79.99.

The P1s are listed as Playstation and PC compatible, but will also work with newer Xbox One controllers with the 3.5 jack.  The older XBO controllers require the Striker Pro ZX, which includes the adapter, but it's not on sale.

I am giving the Pro P1s a shot.  As a Polk Audio 4Shot owner, I loved the audio quality and comfort, but hated that the mic was so poor - my friends on Live have always complained that they can't hear me, even if I shove the "boom mic" that was supposed to fix the voice problems against my uvula.  The word is the P1's microphone is one of the best available today.  If it isn't, it will be returned.

People can hate on Activision all they want but continuing these free upgrade promotions is really great for gamer's planning to get newer consoles down the road.

I agree.  I'm not getting it because they are once again having peer-hosted multiplayer, but they're doing right by gamers here.

Would be fun if we could peek into an alternate reality where the Xbox was the more powerful machine getting the gimped games because of the weaker PS4 and watching all the hypocrisy.

So you weren't around for the PS2 / Xbox era.  Right.

You were bringing up the Sony hack as a way to invalidate any argument for the PS4 and it's exclusive specifically Dead Nation.  I provided a link to a recent Xbox hack showing that it's not just PlayStation that suffers these vulnerabilities.  It wasn't a red herring or a straw man argument.  I believe you like to throw these terms around to sound more educated than you are, then you can call someones argument community college level, and someone of Timbos education level will think the things you are saying have some level of validity to them.

Straw man argument was when you lumped me in with, what was the phrase, "Xbox fanboys talking smack about multiplat sales last generation"?  Words to that effect.

Try to keep up.

Not sure what having sport photo had anything to do with what he said.

It's called a "red herring".  It's a fallacious form of argumentation where someone changes the subject to something irrelevant in order to try to win a point.

Go back a few pages, and you'll see him try the "straw man" argument.  That's where you link your opponent to a group they aren't really aligned with in order to try and make them look bad.

If this keeps up, we could have an entire community college course in poor argumentation techniques right here in this thread, completely free of cost to anyone who happens by.

Yay, charts and sales graphs, and the whole PS4 game library list too. This thread keeps getting better!

You can't have a proper e-peen measuring contest without graphs and charts!

I was skimming the console warz stuff and find it hilarious.  Mostly because at one point, someone actually listed Dead Nation as if it's some kind of a coup the game is PS Exclusive.

That game was given away to me, for free, years ago, as an apology from Sony for making me have to shred my credit card because they didn't take online security seriously enough.  The fact someone is boasting about it as a PS4 exclusive tells me everything I need to know about Sony's "larger library".

I gotta wonder, do 3DS fanboys visit Vita boards to brag about their console of choice's sales?   Because you want to talk about a curb-stomping, the Vita only sold 10k this past month.  Then again, with sales like that, there probably isn't anyone on Vita boards to troll.

I'm still amazed people are willing to pay sixty bucks for movie tie-in games.

I am also curious to see if MS will allow full 3TB+ for external USB storage. I know for certain sometime next year I will *NEED* space for my games unless I start uninstalling some. I think by early next year my hard drive will be full depending on how much space Batman, Halo and Destiny end up needing. But yeah, Nintendo won the battle with the external storage on the Wii U which is pretty funny actually. They are also the only ones that allow free to play online when both Sony and MS went the money route. Smarter move by MS/Sony IMHO since their live subscription numbers are rather large. Wasn't it 60% gold attachment rate?

As I stated before, MS has no reason to limit the amount of hard drive space people have - to the contrary, the larger the hard drive, the more stuff they can sell you to cram into it.

And Nintendo is in the same boat this generation that Sony was in the last generation:  Their online service simply cannot fully compete with the competition, so they really can't charge a subscription fee.  Sony was able to wean their fans onto a subscription model by introducing it as a game 'rental' service,- which is what Nintendo would have to do if they wanted to charge a subscription fee.

I doubt they go proprietary on drives.

The real money to be made isn't in selling the drives, the real money will be made filling the drives with content.  This isn't to say they won't have their own line of "official MS Xbox One" drives that will be overpriced for the amount of storage they offer (but will offer the obsessive a drive that matches the look of their console), but I don't think they want too many barriers to people adding storage space.

Sony learned their lesson about proprietary memory after the PS2 era (if only they had extended that lesson over into the Vita, it might not be foundering so badly) - time for MS to make that same step.

#11125752 Xbox One Console Thread (Console is currently in stock as of 12/3 at Amazon)

There won't be a Kinect-Free bundle unless the version with Kinect crashes and burns in terms of sales.

Which is probably half the reason you're seeing so much hate directed at MS from certain corners of the internet.  They saw that constant bitching made MS change their DRM policy, and they're hoping they can do the same with Kinect.  Keep complaining, try to get others over to their side, and keep sales low until they get what they want.

Hell with it.  I'm buying two and giving one to a friend.  That's how I'm voting.

#11124320 Xbox One Console Thread (Console is currently in stock as of 12/3 at Amazon)

Posted by Central Scrutinizer on 10 October 2013 - 05:54 AM

The MS Store had their "Day One" ad up on Polygon.com earlier today, but it's gone now, and their web page says the XBO is out of stock.

I think this late availability is a good sign for people who preordered from other outlets and are not sure if they are getting a Day One console or not.  Obviously, MS checked their supplies and found they were going to have a few more available.  I would guess that they'd inquire around with retailers and make sure that everyone had what they needed to make their preorder numbers, then put the rest up for sale between themselves and GameStop.  At least, that would make the most sense.

I think there could be one more preorder "window" opened a fairly short time before launch.  Plans can change for some people at the last moment.  Maybe they're not sure, maybe they preordered from two different places and cancel with one of them, maybe they are having unexpected financial difficulties, or maybe they are a Sony fanboy who thinks that it will somehow sabotage MS if they tease them with a preorder until the last possible moment.  Whatever the case, a certain number will probably become available as the pre-launch period winds down.

Along those lines, I got a call from a Sony rep in the Philippines yesterday  (worked over there for a couple of months a few years ago, the accent is unmistakable).  The card I used to preorder my PS4 expired in September, and they were asking me to update it before shipment.  I told them to cancel the order.  I was waffling between keeping it and flipping it, and it was to the point where flipping it was going to win out.  There isn't one near-launch exclusive they have that remotely interests me, and I'm not going to pay $400 to play half a version of Driveclub (which would not get played at all with Forza 5 in the house at the same time) and whatever indie games they decide to give away for PS+.  Hopefully that console will go to someone on launch day who will be as stoked to have it as I will be the following week when the XBO arrives.
