#12717731 CAGcast #408: Project MICROPHONES

Good to see the return of depressing Cheapy movie recommendations.  I thought for a second there Cheapy had moved on to fun entertaining shows to watch.

I thought Arkham City was a much better game than Asylum.  I did not like the limits they placed on the game in Asylum. It felt too cramped and the best moment in Asylum was when you finally got outside and could move about.  The whole dlc thing has been way blown out of proportion.  All WB was announce the thing that everyone with a brain knows is coming out anyway.  Gamers just can not handle real transparency about their games.

I want to thank Wombat for his insight into why the Joystiq is closing. I was a big fan of the site for a while.  It used to be my go to site for gaming news.  You guys do not get enough credit for how well you break down the business aspects of the game industry.

#11587106 Xbox One to include free Forza 5

Posted by spid on 06 March 2014 - 05:57 PM

Microsoft seems to not understand that their loyal followers will not be buying the console preorder next time. (if they have a next time) I don't expect them to provide every new deal they offer to new console buyers to us. But I would like to see discounts or some free indie games. (where is games for gold?)

Yeah, I am sure they will worry about that six to seven years from now.  However, they are making moves to encourage users now.   And if the deal was good enough for people four or five months ago I am not sure why people complain about it now.    There will always be better deal for those that wait.

I don't think there is much of a chance that Infamous outsells TitanFall. There were over 80 million PS3s sold and the attach rate for the Infamous franchise was about 1:40. It's not a system seller and there's no reason to think the majority of PS4 owners are going to buy it even in this stage of the console's life. For reference, I think Killzone: Shadow Fall has about a 1:5 attach rate currently. And keep in mind, PS4 outsold Xbox One 2:1 in North America in January, but that's not overall. Overall, it's somewhere in the 5:3 ratio in PS4s favor.

TitanFall is a much easier game to market than Infamous as well. Not only because it's a first-person shooter, but you also know Microsoft and EA are going to advertise the heck out of it.

At least, that's how my mind works.

I think you hit upon the dirty little secret about Sony's vaunted advantage with their internal studios is most of those games were not gigantic hits.  Outside of Uncharted none of the new IPs Sony launched last generation broke out beyond the 1 - 2 million barrier.  At best most of them made back their development money, but they rarely moved additional Playstation 3s.

I am pretty sure Gears of Wars alone outsold most of those games combined.

#10868008 CAGcast #328: Headset Not Included

Posted by spid on 30 June 2013 - 01:10 PM

I have not used my headset in months. I do not know where it is at the moment.  Including a Kinect makes it easier for the general public to have chat online.  If I thought the chief problem with people saying stupid things was kids I would say having a headset only fosters that.  It allows the kids to hear the stuff without their parents knowledge.  I really do not run into jerks that offen, but most of them seem to be adults.   I do think Microsoft's new Smartmatching, if it works, could help reduce the number of idiots you run into.

If no one has seen this demo of Kinect it shows how the noise cancellation will work on Kinect.

#10622044 Xbox One on the way. DRM removed, more details to come.

I don't buy used games.  My Xbox is connected to the Internet all the time.  I have no issues with Microsoft's policy. It would have nice if the price was $450 instead of $499, but even $500 is not a lot consider I will have the thing for years to come.  What I like about Microsoft approach.

1. The games look great.  There is a great variety and more chances being taken with some of the exclusives

2.  The Dashboard OS looks slick and seems to answer most of my little complaints about the existing dashboard.

3.  I watch Live tv a lot, and if I never have to change an input or I can watch tv and instantly jump into a game it will improve my experience.

4. I don't want to play with a disc in the drive anymore.

The only thing I want to hear more about is how they will interface with media devices.

I love that Cheapy's alleged Xbox bias is telling people to be patient and wait until we know everything. If you do not rush to judgement then clearly you are a fanboy...strange how the internet works.

It is odd that people thing that just now people are going start trying to hack Microsoft. People are attempting to hack into Microsoft everyday. I think that is one of the reason they have improved their security so much over the last ten years.
