Also, they felt the need to close down a lot of stores, and are continuing to close down even more stores.

They close stores every year, and this isn't even the most drastic round of closings.

2019: 120

2018: 83

2017: 66

2016: 104 (excluded Puerto Rico)

2015: 136

2014: 119

I mean I know it's inevitable, but it's not happening as fast as you guys think.

The only real boost from a fresh hardware launch comes from people buying games to go along with their fancy new systems. And of course, the majority of GameStop's revenue doesn't come from new hardware or new software sales anyhow, it comes from re-selling used titles.

Uh, new accessories

Elite effects sill in effect, as of today.

The DotD today was Blacksad on Switch.  It's going to be a rare game, IMO, if I understand correctly, as only 1 copy was ever sent to each GameStop.  It didn't sell very well.  It's not $50 good, but $24 great, new.

I still got %20 bonus for trading in games.  Also dumped the $10 coupon.

There "IS" a way to know future deals of the day, for Switch.  For instance, I predict EverSpace (again), HellMut (again), and Close to the Sun (1st time), in the next week or 2.  There will be other titles to pad, as certainly GS owns a plethora of shitty games (not what I listed!.. I'm not listing shitty games) they want to dump.

Close to the Sun looks decent.  Not $30 decent .. but $12 or $14 might tickle me....

Let's see if I'm right :)

I'm hoping we get a repeat of Infamous/Bloodborne/GoW III for $5, I got super busy at work and forgot to pick up my order before the store cancelled it.

All these horror stories swayed me to just sell my games on OfferUp instead of returning. Made a few dollars profit, nothing too crazy just wanted to unload them

Way to go! I considered taking this route with my stack of games instead of trading the games in for cash, but OfferUp is absolutely terrible for me. I was asking just $40 for NSMBUD, everyone tries lowballing me to $20-$25, and still expect me to ship and lose out on the 9% fee. I told one guy I could get $35 cash at GameStop, and he went off on me.

Just a heads up. The ad is released every Sunday. Some few cases where they will have a special promotion on a random wednesday like the b2g2 they did recently

He posted the ad that starts Sunday, the 12th. Just a heads up, it's uploaded days before Sunday. You just need to change the date in the URL.

Thank you for the response. This is exactly what is going on. Looks like the 4 for 20 deal goes till the 31st and the buy 2 get 2 goes till the 1st (according to the GS app). I will try and wait this one out.

Flyer says the B2G2 ends today (Sunday the 29th) but I really hope you're right

Are we in some parallel universe where we all don't know all the kinds of bullshit Gamestop pulls, as well as their general incompetence? Everyone reading this is fully aware of all the cons and risks of shopping/trading there. We just also know what they're good for - used games readily available in decent supply, frequent enough sales, and how to play the system and actually make money on trades.
If you don't know why people keep going to Gamestop, why are you even in this thread?

It's that time of year where people just drop in to complain about display cases sold as new, like they haven't been doing that for fucking ever.

I am concerned that reduced trade values will become the new norm if the data shows that customers are willing to accept those values. I encourage everyone in those test markets to either insist on adjusting to the correct values or trade their games in a different store.

Yet employees and some customers will drink the Kool-Aid and claim "they're going to lower prices to compensate!" Unbelievable.

And you have people lurking in this thread to chime in that we're the ones being shady and taking advantage of them.

Heck if I really wanted to participate in “theft“ I would’ve gone to that store, picked up those top tier switch games, and resold them for real cash money instead of $80 credit.

All these hours wasted on stressful phone calls are worth more than the $80 credit, especially this time of year. Fuck those people calling you out on this.

What do my fellow cheapies do on off months, like January, February?  I was considering just having games shipped to me, to trade back for nearly money spent (ie: buy 1st party Swtich game for under $40 with CAG16, sell back for $41, or $42 is there is a pre-order bonus .. or $47 / $49 if Pokemon).  The benefit would be the points though, and I suppose if you did this enough you could get 100k points a month, enough for a couple new / new'ish releases.

I guess buying online is less conspicuous.

What do you all do when you can't actually get 2k TV per month?  Rest, or keep active?

I go ham on these screw-ups because I assume there's going to be a long dry period, then miss the thrill of finding games I want or games with high values to flip. Then I spend the next few months playing through the huge backlog of games I bought.

still others look to burn employees on surveys (potentially costing jobs, or at the very least bringin' them down for a few days) for what one party sees as busy-body JDing

I'll never burn an employee on a survey for calling me on my flipping. Not only would I already be the asshole in that situation, but a negative survey will bring even more negative attention.

When a manager accuses me of "abusing the return policy" when I trade games I had purchased 5 months prior, why shouldn't I burn him? If he's treating me like that the first time I meet him, and there isn't even a flip happening, how is he going to treat other customers? The other night he accused my friend of trying to trade stolen games for no reason at all. How is he going to treat an actual sketchy guy trading in stuff for cash?

He can take the $3 pay cut and go be an asshole hourly associate at Walmart.

4 for $60 works on retro on the website. Maximum Carnage is a good flip if you can wait.

Lol, as I've said I think what you do is sad, but I've come to at least respect it. When they have bizarre deals constantly like this then they clearly have no idea what they're going for as a business.

I make hundreds of dollars by spending a couple of hours a day hitting GameStops and boosting everyone's GPGs, preowned sales and trade numbers. You come here in your free time to criticize us for no reason with absolutely no incentive whatsoever. Which one is sad again?
