#14374217 Walmart YMMV In Store Clearance Thread I (READ THE FAQs)

Posted by ashram on 29 January 2021 - 06:05 PM

I went to the one on Flagler and 91, and Coral way and 84th. You might have luck in Kendall.

If anyone has an extra copy of Diablo Eternal for Switch and wants to sell one, drop me a PM plz. Thanks

My time in south florida (31 years) and the west kendall location has been a gold mine since the Sega Saturn days (When walmart stopped selling saturn games, that location had all games for $5) And that continued until I left about 10 years ago. Haven't been to that location since. Florida City was always hit or miss and Doral was OK the moment something dropped (I worked 10 minutes away). Now I'm on the other side of the country and I would literally have to leave to check the second a deal pops up. If not, the local game store will go, buy them all out, and resell at MSRP

Well, time to vent a little:

My larger clamshell case and steelbook from my 'Streets of Rage 4' limited edition came busted INSIDE the box, and they forgot the extra music sampler. After a couple of week, LRG has told me today they can't replace them. The best they can do is 10% back.

Whoopty-fuckin-doo...

only 10%? there is a $25 difference between the regular and classic edition that came with the clamshell... that's like a 35-40% if my math is ok-ish

My experience today with the PS5 and XSX at a Walmart within driving distance to me. The amount of people wanting each console is incredible right now and no wonder it's impossible to get one.

https://www.cheapass...-et/?p=14358716

A friend failed this morning at our walmart. She was there at 6:30 (I suggested 6) and they seemed to have 8 PS5 systems. She was #8 in line, but #5 in line was allowed to buy 2, so she got nothing. Also, of note, Brickseek is no longer showing ps5 stock? A message stating that "At the request of the retailers, search results for this item have been disabled. To check inventory for this item, please visit your local stores in the mornings."

cons of PS5:   The new system menu UI interface is not fun; designed too much for advertising and not for users get around the menu.   I much prefer PS4 menu system.     everytime i boot the machine up, the menu annoys me.

The main front end is OK, but the OS itself needs work. Especially on the file management side. The only way to copy games is via system transfer, which was almost useless, even after a week of troubleshooting!

sony fails to approve the NVME SSDs that we could upgrade with ourselves at launch; making us wait till probably Spring?

Agree 100% on this. especially since you cannot transfer straight to USB from the PS4, and properly ejecting the USB drive from my PS4 to PS5 did not work. Figured I'd transfer in chunks to copy over to USB and issues continued. IF I just copied to USB after it was done, nothing worked. If I opened digital downloads from the internal storage and then moved it to USB then it was fine. Not a single disc based game worked after transfer. If I wanted it, I had to reinstall. To add on to of that, having to redownload Disc based updated were weird.... Some maxed out my meager connection speed, others took forever.

(NVME for both consoles is overhyped; a regular sata SSD at 2TB would have been just as good and we would all have more space to store games and that money saved could have gone to more CPU&GPU power instead)

Kind of disagree there. It would be 100% fine for PS4 games, but for PS5 it would have reintroduced loading since sata's bandwidth is nowhere near as fast as NVME. Now an option to internally place a 2.5" ssd for PS4 games would have been a nice bonus.

the haptic feedback controllers are cool, but i dont' like the extra size & heft of holding the controller.

As someone who hated EVERY iteration of the Playstation controller since the PS1 release, I actually like the DualSense controller

lacking Ratchet and HorizonZeroDawn2 at launch is tough.    SpidermanMM is great to have.

Seems both consoles had a mediocre launch lineup (no new fighters?? Many, not all, of the big games were updated versions or remakes while the rest were crossgen titles. For me, the 1st games on both consoles were both BC games that now run smoother)

sony backwards compatibility fail: only offers PS4 and PS4Pro.     If we are celebrating playstation, they should have included PS1,2,3 backwards compatibility to compete better with Xbox

The PS1 ican be emulated on almost everything now. PS2 emulation is pretty good on PC, so the PS5 running on an x86/x64 based cpu, could make it possible. PS3... well, that architecture makes it a bit tough, but who knows. Sony could have easily done the PS1 at least.

lack of Dolby Atmos & DTS:X for game audio support.

Even with the additional licensing for either format, that would have been nice. I'd pay a few bucks to be able to use either format

Someone on youtube said this good quote:  both PS5 and XSX could have waited to launch in Spring; more consoles ready to be sold/manufactured, and more games available potentially to play.

I recall ReviewTechUSA saying that... for the XBOX, that would have meant more games. For the PS5, maybe the missing/broken features could have been ironed out, Like NVME support and the lackluster transfer "feature". But both Sony and MS have focused in on November time frame for a few launches now, and with the holiday rush, they sell consoles easily. Granted, I'm happy I managed to get both for launch. The xbox just worked for me. The PS5 caused me too much headache trying to move my data, and being in IT, I rather my stuff just work out of the box and not have to troubleshoot why a game won't copy or play after copying over.

I feel like the DualSense is too wide and makes it difficult to press the touchpad for games like Tsushima. The bottom of my hands also seem to rest where the controller squares out, which is uncomfortable (whereas the DS4 is rounded).

Still giving it a chance, but I find the Series X controller much more comfortable.

as someone that hated every version of the playstation controller since the 90's, I am loving the DualSense controller.

Finished up wiring and installing all 6 JAMMA boards into my multi JAMMA light gun cabinet.  I thought the final wiring came out pretty well considering there are 6 games in there and a switcher.

Can post more pics/info if people have any interest.

I've seen some messy Jamma setups, so to me, this is pretty clean. good job.

Finished up my multi jamma light gun arcade cabinet project today and everything appears to be working fine!  Thought some people in here might have some interest in it.  Took a little video of it in action if anyone wants to see how it works.  I bought Lethal Enforcers today from someone so should have that next week hopefully and will put that in there too.

Here's pics of the final installation.

I am loving the fact that you are using an IDE to compact flash adapter for the HDD. Ingenious!

I don't think it's really sold out.  Amazon tends to deactivate preorders on items like this where there is no firm release date.

Yeah, they seemed to have stopped preorders the moment the delay was announced last week.

Wow... I saw the photo and immediately assumed a PS4 port, so I was super excited. I'm definitely not a fan of re-released games, like they did with the Star Wars carts, Metal Storm, etc. They are just glorified repros imo... Hard pass for me.

Well, Disc rot is a thing... I had a game or 2 become useless already (and disney DVDs) due to disc rot. So a new, official pressing of an older title isn't the wort idea. Also... my Sega CD library is thin. Wonder when Limited Run will just sell the cases as I could use a few dozen.

#14263731 PS Vita Deals & Discussions Thread

Posted by ashram on 12 February 2020 - 10:36 PM

I have the PSP Go, Dock, original psp power supply, ps3 controller, and the component cables (along with composite cables).  Games do play in a box.  But you can use your tv's scaling features to get it close to filling the screen.  PSP runs games at 480 x 272 on the actual system and that's why it looks different over a tv.  The menus are actual 480p since the OS handles the video out but can't help the games being scaled lower than 480p since they aren't 480p even on the psp.

This is what I attempted to say.... output is 480i/p, but the games run at a native resolution in that window. thus the borders.

It’s worth noting that for some reason I’ve never been entirely clear on, the PSP video output only fills about a quarter of the screen for video games—the main menu and video files fill the full screen, but video games don’t. The only way to play PSP games on a non-PSP screen in fullscreen (without using an emulator and disc images) is the PSTV, and you need the digital versions for that.

I don’t know if it’s the same with the PSPGo, but that thing is digital only.

There may be a way to do it via custom firmware, but I haven’t looked closely at that, myself.

It was something about games running natively in a 480p window if I remember correctly, since it didn't have the power to scale the game up. Zoom modes on some TVs helped with this

Assuming you're talking about the Vita, that'd be a PSTV. Unfortunately they're not very cheap anymore, seem to float around the $100 mark.

Really? wow, I picked up one when there was a mass clearance online at $45 with controller. Then 4 years ago, at walmart, they had an open box returned unit for $10. I use 1 with my US account and the other with a Japan account. They do come in handy, but too bad Sony locked them to 1 account per system.

Can't really speak for the Intel Xeons.

I mostly use Intel's regular i7 stuff and NVidia GPU's.

About AMD with Ryzen: you're going to likely get more cores & threads and bang for the $, when compared to Intel. Since Ryzen, they've really been very competitive with Intel...for the first time in a very long time.

Thing is: there's also the new AMD, Intel, and NVidia stuff is all right around the corner. B/c AMD has stepped their game up with Ryzen, actually been closely watching that stuff. AMD's Ryzen 4000 series of CPU's, AMD's 5000 series of GPU's, Intel's 10000 series of CPU's, and NVidia's 3000 series of GPU's should be coming very soon.

How much are looking to spend on a build tops?

Also, what are aiming and looking for? 1080p? 1440p? 4K (2160p)?

How many GB on the RX 580 that you scored, BTW? 4 GB or 8GB?

If you're looking to play just the titles you listed - eh, as long as find a mobo, probably won't have too much problem....given what I've seen on Youtube for games like W3 here:

Older xeons aren't bad.... I just dropped a 7 year old xeon e3 with a gtx 660 into an arcade1up cab (overkill, yes, but it was just there) and it runs fine. Just remember it is an older server based CPU, so it's power draw will probably be a bit more than a newer cpu. Also, if you ever plan to expand the ram, ddr3 will eventually cost a bit more (look at ddr2 prices). so if it's a system you plan to use for a year or 2, then sure, get the parts, but if you ever plan to play the higher end AAA titles or VR, you may consider just getting a new system.

No money was exchanged or anything.  They told me the price they would let it go for and I said I'd take it.  I even message them "hey if you don't want to sell it to me just let me know so I can move on" and got nothing back.

It's just really frustrating because I've been on the lookout for one for 2 months and finally one comes up an hour away, and they flake out like this.

Oh well, I have a lot of work to do with these Rush 2049 machines right now anyways.  I have em in pieces right now so I can get the main cabinet through my doorway.  And I cleaned the shit out of one of the machines and will do the other one tonight probably.  Then once they are down in my basement, I'll have to put em back together and setup the link.

THEN they will be good to go!

I do not envy you (yes I am lying 10000%) Would love a sitdown (there's a rush 2049 at work, but the screens are HORRIBLE!!!) ! have a 24" dynamo that appears to originally been a side arms (based on the CP, which I think the ex purposely forgot when we moved) but the side art was already stripped before I bought it. What I'm using for my MVS was sold to me with Soul Edge, but was a hideously converted and still is :(
