Patraeus answers question from Republican John Warner

11 September 2007 - 09:48 PM

"Are you able to say at this time if we continue what you've laid before the Congress here as a strategy, do you feel that this is making America safer?" asked Warner.

"Sir, I believe that this is indeed the best, uh, course of action to achieve our objectives in Iraq," Petraeus answered.

"Does that make America safer?" Warner pressed.

"Sir, I don't know actually. I have not sat down and sorted out in my own mind what I have focused on and riveted on is how to accomplish the mission of the multi-national force in Iraq."

Wow. He's never thought about it? That's pretty hard to believe considering he's more than willing to continue sacrificing our troops in Iraq for an indefinate period of time. What are they fighting and dying for, if not for a more secure and safe America?

Wii disk drive noise *Update 10-14, Problem resolved. Thanks for the replies!

10 September 2007 - 05:59 PM

*Update 10-14 - I decided to return my system. Thanks to everyone for the responses!

I purchased a Wii last week. After several days of play I noticed a distracting noise coming from the disk drive when a disk is inserted. (When no disk is inserted, the system remains quiet.) It wasn't the fact that it was alarmingly loud, it was the actual sound. It had a 'clicking' or 'whiring' noise that would cycle from lower pitch to higher pitch and back again over and over as long as a disk was inserted in the system, regardless of whether the game was being played.

I was wondering if other Wii owners could tell me if that was normal Wii noise or if there was something wrong with my system? I'm curious to know if all Wii systems have that fluctuating 'whiring' noise. It's more distracting to me than my 360 was simply because of the pitch of the noise....if that makes sense? The 360 has one steady noise. You just get used to it after awhile, but hearing a fluctuating noise, constantly yanks me out of the game.

Thanks for any help.

(I made a new topic because no one was looking in the Wii help thread.)

Anyone play Madden 08 for PC?

15 August 2007 - 10:03 PM

Has anyone tried Madden out for the PC? I'm anxious to see if it's any good compared to the other versions, or if it stands on its own? Of course, all the review sites are focusing on the console version reviews first. If anyone could post with some impressions of the features or just general playability that would be awesome. I haven't played Madden on the PC since the 2005 version, but the PC is the only game system I have.
