#13655094 Doom PS4/XB1 $19.99 ($15.99 with GCU) at Best Buy

Posted by consoleman on 07 March 2017 - 08:02 PM

Darn it.  Got this for $19.99 a few weeks back at Gamestop using a PowerRewards coupon.  Waited and waited for BestBuy to finally have this deal but couldn't wait anymore when I found a Gamestop store that actually carried a sealed copy which is a rarity.

All I can say is that with BestBuy, it's best to get it while they have it since game titles have been known to disappear and never be restocked agan.

#13579122 GameStop Winter Sale 12/26-1/1 - B2G1 Used and Lots More!

Unlike Bestbuy where if you return something you bought with a rewards certificate, your reward points would be returned to you, Gamestop doesn't provide any flexibility for returns if you use a rewards certificate. Or at the very least, if the game is sealed, let people exchange it for another game of the same value. Gamestop lets you do none of these things and you're stuck with whatever you bought.

Made the mistake of buying "Ratchet and Clank" when they first dropped the price to $19.99. Starting Black Friday, they dropped it to $9.99 but there was no way to get a price adjustment or do a return and rebuy since I bought it with a rewards certificate. Just add that to another dumb business practice by Gamestop.

#13559272 It Follows (Horror Film) Blu Ray + Digital HD - $3.99 at Amazon

Liked 95% of the movie. Well-acted and the storyline was interesting. What stopped it from being a great horror movie is a dud ending that makes you feeling nothing. Someone mentioned it gave you a similar feeling to watching the ending of the Sopranos. You end up asking what kind of an ending is that?

#13520378 Mario Themed Limited Edition New 3DS thread

You got to give credit to Nintendo for putting out so many variations of the 3DS and people are still buying them up. I haven't even considered a Vita. Maybe if they drop the price to $99 like this 3DS, I might.

I'm a bit surprised by how the NES Classic has totally sold out. Can't imagine how a SNES unit will do if they ever put one out as I like those games so much more. Have to say one thing about those early games. They're fun but very tough to beat. I might have been able to play them as a kid but I don't think my old reflexes can beat them anymore. Great nostalgia value for us older gamers but making these early Nintendo games available to young gamers is wonderful. Old can be new again.

I'm sticking to my $20 before GCU rule so looks like nothing for me this July 4th.

#13320177 Uncharted Collection $19.99 ($15.99 w/ GCU) at BestBuy

If I remember correctly, we're not getting the goty version physically, but, that may just be a tactic to get us to buy it digitally and then release one. And the goty could end up being a code anyway.
Just saying things cause I'm bored. Don't mind me if you don't want to!

Hoping it's not just a code if it ever comes out here. I've pretty much avoided buying any game that might possibly have a GOTY Edition coming out. Most times it pays off but sometimes one never comes out and I never get around to buying the game which is all as well since I have to cut back on my game spending.

#13312644 Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo Selects) - $9.98 at Toys R Us

Posted by consoleman on 02 May 2016 - 05:12 PM

Bought one last week when they had their 20% off coupon sale so got it for $7.99. Toysrus did not even carry Mario Galaxy 2 until last week at all the stores near me so it's strange that they are clearancing these things out just when they started selling them.

I wish they would clearance out many more Wii games. Still have a number of Mario games on my list to get.

#13310872 *DEAD*Best Buy DotD sale (Fallout 4 $30/$24, FF Type 0 $10/...

Finally picked up an in-store pickup order I placed 3 days ago for Tales of Zestiria and the Splatoon amibo 3-pack. Didn't notice till I got home that the Splatoon pack was previously opened and resealed with a bunch of staples. Wasn't going to spend an hour travelling back there. Hope they don't give me any grief trying to exchange it at a different store a few days from now. Bad weather heading my way the next few days.

Tales of Zestiria looks to be in good shape. Even checked it like I do all my games. Did see the packaging of the amibos looked a bit frayed but didn't expect it to have been opened already. Wouldn't have been able to exchange it even if I caught it before I left the store as they show no more in stock.

Just like there's no way I'm buying a gutted copy of a game from Gamestop, I won't buy amibos that has been previously used. My darn OCD wouldn't put up with it.

#13302333 ToysRUs 20% Off Weekend Coupon - Online and In Store

Posted by consoleman on 24 April 2016 - 01:56 AM

Only deal I found is Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii selling for the low, low price of $9.98.  Was almost sure it was a mis-price when it actually rung up at that price.  Using the 20% off coupon, comes to $7.98 + tax.  Wanted to add this game for so long, even holding out even when it went down to $19.99 waiting for a great sale.  This is as good as it gets for a quality title.

Wishing the other Select titles for Wii will drop this low.

I'm still waiting for them to honor a rebate for batteries sent in January. Most other places would have had it processed by now so I'm not exactly trusting these Newegg rebates.

#13255425 Playstation vr Not live yet

Posted by consoleman on 19 March 2016 - 03:34 AM

I was being a little facetious (especially with my timeframe). Although I do think it will be a highly niche item for quite a long time (if not forever). The problem with Sony and other similar companies jumping into this is that they have seemingly no way to make this product have any broad appeal, therefore, it will be a fad for them just like motion controls were a fad last generation and so on. I'm sure VR will be great long term but once the newness wears off on the early adopters, I don't see too many mainstream people buying into the product. It's still clunky and expensive and also still a peripheral and incredibly hard to market. The early adopters and techies will continue to enjoy it and push it forward in a niche way. In 10 to 15 years when you can put on a $50 pair of cordless sunglasses and get a great VR experience, you might see VR be viable in a mainstream way. Until then, companies like Sony are going to give up on it because they don't want to try to make money off of niche products.

Being a long-time gamer spanning over 3 decades, I have eagerly waited for the day VR can finally be available for the home. Well, it's here. I have no delusions that these first-wave VR bundles are going to be mainstream but we've come a long way from those simplistic polygonal worlds of early VR applications. Though not pretty, they were promising but what I'm expecting today is leaps and bounds beyond that. I don't believe VR will be as niche as something like Google Glass, because VR is capable of having multiple uses in not only gaming but possibly be huge for education. If gaming can be enhanced to truly give you that feeling of "being there" that is a huge step above just gaming sitting there in front of a tv. If I can play my favorite kind of games-sports, racing and role-playing, in a realistic VR world, it'll truly be exciting. All it takes is one or two killer games to really kick it off. I don't care if it's a paintball FPS but if it's capable of giving you that real feel of being in a real paintball game, then it accomplished its mission.

Man up , its cold yes but its winter so I would imagine this isnt your first rodeo lol

After jumping after every game sale since the days of the first PlayStation, I think I'm nearing my last rodeo. Amassed such a backlog that, unless it's a must-have game, I shouldn't be so obsessed with adding even more mediocre games to my collection. Great prices though but in the NYC area, more likely than not, all the good stuff is gone within the first few days of a sale. Checked brickwork.com but it says the first store I visited had games in stock when they had nothing. Likely the same in the second store.

#13160561 3D Blu-Ray thread

Ugh, no. The 1st Tobey Maguire one had it's moments, but 2 and 3 were more chick flick than superhero movie.

Still they were far better films than the latest 2 movies and while the movies did have a chick flick quality to them, it stuck true to the comics. It's like saying the comic books reads too romantic because of the PP/MJ relationship. The fighting scenes against Green Goblin and Doc Ock in the first movies were way more impressive than the ones in the new movies with the Lizard and the deeply-altered Green Goblin and Electro. The last two movies just left you feeling empty and down which isn't what a good superhero movie should do and that's probably why they didn't play that well in theaters.

Picked up Borderlands the Pre-sequel but debating whether to keep it or wait for the Handsome Collection for the nextgen systems to drop in price some time in the future. Already have Borderlands 2. How are the dlc that are included in this set?

Picked up Lego Batman 3 for PS3 a few months ago for $9.99 at Toysrus s. Graphics not that far worse than for XB1 or PS4 so that was a better deal.

Mario Kart 7 for 3DS is a pretty good deal. Now if they can only drop Mario Kart 8 for Wii U. Even Mario Kart for the old Wii hasn't dropped from its $39.99 price. Ended up getting it used at Gamestop in like-new condition because I grew tired of waiting for that price drop that never comes.

As for Dying Light, still waiting for that drop to $19.99 before GCU. That is my target price for anything less than a GOTY edition.
