#14483051 (PS4/PS5, XBONE/XBONE/X) Battlefield 2042 $9.99 used @Gamefly + free shi...

More importantly, how is the player database now? Empty lobbies or are people still actually playing? Last news I heard was even BF 1 and BF V is more active compared to BF 2042!

Speaking as someone who spent probably >3000 hours on BF:BC2 and BF3, I honestly couldn't care less if DICE hung it up.  They've so thoroughly neutered the franchise by this point that it's become just another generic shooter.  Every single release since BF:BC2 has seen a marked reduction in environmental damage, which was a HUGE part of the early games.  They've gone from a situation where you could use C4 or call in artillery strikes and pancake just about any building on the map, to this affinity for stupid scripted events (Shanghai tower collapse in BF4, the tornados in 2042, etc.) that look just lovely on screen but do virtually nothing to effect the outcome of a given game, and certainly don't involve player skill on any level.  Meanwhile, vehicles have receded so far from their high water mark in BF3 that they're now little more than a novelty.  Don't even get me started on how much the maps have declined in quality.  IMO, the only possible way this series could save itself now would be to go back to Bad Company for a third installment, limit the team sizes to no more 12-16 players per, go back to the drawing board and look at why prior maps like Arica Harbor worked, and reinstitute near-total environmental damage capacity.  Which, of course, they won't, they'll instead release BF6 with some stupid scripted feature like a dam breaking or a volcano or some other dumb shit, while the last remnants of their fan base dissolve forever.

Clever thinking, Ubi--reel 'em in with the cheap initial entry, then make it all back on those sweet, sweet NFTs.

#14445627 Playstation 5 Re-stock Thread

Did this for a Wii at a Best Buy that holiday season they were impossible to get. Brought my gameboy SP and played pokemon pinball all night long. The pee spot was around the corner in the dark where there were no street lights cause we got paranoid about police lol. Haven't thought about that in years.

LOL, I walked a couple of miles down to the North Ave. Best Buy in Chicago to wait in line for a Wii; after wasting hours in the freezing cold, it turned out I was 155 in line, and they had 153 units available.  I walked home, dejected, tired and frozen, and idly got on my computer.  Somehow, against all odds, I happened to land on Amazon during the 15-second window or whatever in which they had stock and had actually released them for sale, and snagged one that way.  I still remember laughing at all the irate messages from people who didn't, squalling about how they had gone through 2 pots of coffee while ctrl-F5ing all night waiting for Amazon, only to miss out, having fallen ass-backwards into one there out of sheer luck.  Of course, it turned out that once you beat Twilight Princess and rolled a 300 in bowling there was jack shit to do with it, but c'est la vie.

I'll add another thanks, OP; I'm somewhat surprised it's still working, but I got the link within a minute and canceled without incident.  As it happens, I'm closing on my first house the day after tomorrow and the additional Mini will help a lot in covering the additional space, and obviously you can't beat the price.

#14041299 Amazon Prime 20% Preorder Benefit Officially Ending 8/28

eh, they're already excluding games from the 20% discount selectively, no reason for them to hold back putting titles up

Backlog, baby.  We all have them, probably triple-digits deep at this point.  If the retailers and publishers think they can collude and force consumers into buying a more expensive product, they're going to be sadly mistaken for at least the rest of this generation of hardware.

Wasn't really planning on buying Aces, but it's hard to pass on a two-month-old Nintendo game for $35...

#13996576 Best Buy GCU is being Discontinued?

Not showing a discount on mine either. Finally the Best Buy good ol days are over. RIP

The discount is still applying on the website, the difference is that they are no longer showing it at the item display screens, you have to actually put it in your cart to see it actually apply.  My presumption is that it's their passive-aggressive way of discouraging people (at least casual shoppers) from taking advantage of deals--to whatever extent they can under the membership agreement--by making the discounts less conspicuous.

Just want to add my two cents:  I'm still really enjoying The Walking Dead.  If you're after the zombies munching brains, you're sure to be disappointed, but the characters and drama in a post-apocalyptic world are excellent.  And Negan is always entertaining.

For those looking for a Sci-fi show that's really good, try The Expanse.  Smart, gritty, hard sci-fi.  Solid production values and really entertaining.  I don't think it's airing now, but pretty sure ou can get a season or two from Netflix or Hulu.  Genuinely hard to believe this was on the Syfy channel.

Finally, GOG, y u do dis????

I can't stand TWD and think Negan is quite possibly one of the stupidest characters I've ever seen on celluloid, but I'll happily second The Expanse, that show destroys and other than The Americans is probably the best TV drama going right now.  Unfortunately, it's not on Netflix or Hulu, though it is on Amazon Instant for anyone with that.

It's not hard to argue DICE has already fallen; they probably peaked with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and each successive release since then has been progressively less fun and impressive (other than graphics, of course).  E.g., whatever happened to large-scale environmental damage in their games?  I used to be able to run around with C4 (or a tank, or call in mortars, whatevs) and pancake entire buildings--almost any building on almost any map--down on people's heads.  It was glorious.  By the time BF4 rolled around all that was left was minor environmental degradation (fences, walls and windows being broken, etc.) and a small handful of scripted events (e.g. the tower collapse) that the players themselves had no role in.  Battlefield 1 and Battlefront II are still OK games, I'm not saying they've completely mailed it in yet, but neither those nor anything else DICE has done in the past few years is remotely as good as BFBC2 or BF2142, IMO.

I'm wondering when DICE and BioWare are next. I'm hoping it won't happen - but it's EA, so it's inevitable.

I just this moment bought the described bundle for $33.19 as a heads up, I guess they've dropped the price.

FWIW, the player pool on PS4 seems to have completely evaporated, as well.  It is a good game, the combat system works well and it's fun, people who like FROM's games are all but guaranteed to enjoy it, but a large part of the appeal was being able to co-op, and I've probably spent at least 3-4 hours offering cups at shrines over the past month without ever managing to summon a single soul.  When it first came out, you never had to wait more than a minute or two at tops.  At this point I view it as a single-player title, I'm guessing I'd have to spend significant time on a LFG site looking for a partner and coordinating schedules, and that sucks. I don't know if that's indicative of the fact that the playerbase isn't very strong or maybe I'm just having incredibly bad luck out of nowhere, but I figured I'd just mention it as a heads up.

Since Koei Tecmo is known for shoddy ports I think Nioh might not be worth buying on PC.  It's a faster paced souls game.  It's not a game where you can tolerate technical hiccups.  That pricing appears to have that "we know our game isn't worth $60"  built into it, which is weird.  I'd def wait for the reviews first.

We have an X-Files case in Wisconsin.

DBGGiAHUMAED3AS.jpg

This is actually pretty surprising.  After growing up in Wisconsin and moving away, I'm completely used to people from other states having no idea how to pronounce/spell it (hint: there's no East-sconsin, so that should be a dead giveaway there's no Wes(t)-sconsin either), but locals really probably should have figured it out, there's no excuse.  The truly bad news is that the state is perennially one of the country's top ACT performers, so if they're becoming this dumb en masse, it's a pretty good bet the entire nation is verging on sheer imbecility.

Almost as fun is NC.  I'm imagining a small Carolina town ordering "200 Angles" for their nativity display and being subsequently overwhelmed by the arrival of a band of Germanic barbarian invaders.
