#14205035 The Arcade1Up Tremendous Deals Thread

Love the "Real Arcade Controls" on the Space Invaders cabinet - then it has a joystick for movement. Space Invaders in the arcade controlled with left and right buttons, not a joystick ... :)

I much prefer the Burgertime cabinet to the Karate Champ design. It has much more character, which is what you are going for here. The original Karate Champ arcade cabinet was pretty bland after all. Unfortunately that also means it takes the vertical monitor resolution, but the three other games are horizontal orientation so that's not great. I think in the end, if I were making the pick I would have made the cabinet themed on Bad Dudes to have a horizontal monitor, that cabinet was pretty nice but it has a curved marquee which is probably tougher to package in a compact form for shipping. As I recall, I think Caveman Ninja was a conversion kit, so it wouldn't look as great since they were made to fit in a wide variety of cabinets and did not have full graphics on the sides.

The Japanese versions had a stick as did the cabaret and cocktail versions. IIRC, the buttons were exclusive to Midway’s US cabinet.

Agreed on Burgertime. That’s a classic cab.

Why the heck you buying all of those VHS tapes? Hoping to find porn? 😂

You ask a valid question, though they are Beta, not VHS. I’m into finding/trading stuff that was recorded off TV back in the day. Sometimes it’s mundane stuff, but I have found some oddball TV specials that never appeared again after when they were broadcast. Plus, old commercials, especially local commercials, are always interesting to see.

I have found VHS porn a couple of times at thrift stores though. Lol

If anyone is looking for a Virtual Boy with most of the catalog (and boxes), a boxed Japanese SNES jr., a boxed 32x or a model 2 Sega CD, get yourself to the Broad Ripple Exchange. No idea on prices, but seeing a near complete VB collection just sitting there was wild.

Old me wouldn't have left Goodwill without that. Current me says, meh. Still, found Master Blaster Still Blasting and Qix Neo PSX $2 each that were complete and hadn't been turned into hockey pucks so that was alright.

Ah I see. Well I guess that's one bright spot. Guess I'm just tired of stores screwing people over. Seen some Goodwill's try to sell empty boxes.

Also could be the boxes weren't empty when they were put on the shelf. If they leave anything in the case or box, chances are very good it's going to be stolen.

#13308518 The General eBay Rant Thread

I guess this is kind of an anti-rant, but I sold an iPhone a month ago and I was amazed that after making it clear it was only interested US sales and not putting an option for anything but US shipping quotes, I only got three messages from people asking me in broken English to end my auction early and send my phone to wherever outside of the US. Not too bad, actually.

Cheapy, you've pretty much said everything I've heard about 4K when people are being objective about it. I'm an audio guy and to me 4K video seems a lot like hi res audio, something that on paper makes sense but in real world application few people can actually tell a difference. Something else to keep in mind, Best Buy TVs are notorious for being rigged to look "better" in that environment. If someone can't see a benefit in that environment where the scales are tipped in that direction already, that's saying something.

Also, still agree with you guys 100% on VR.

#13236918 Chromecast 2015...activate it now or wait for a good promo from google?

Posted by Captain Wrong on 06 March 2016 - 12:59 PM

IIRC, the activations promos also require the Chomecast to have been purchased during a certain period which is tied to the serial number. I just went through this with two I'd bought a few months ago.
