Bought the Toad from Walmart; came back to say...sadly, just the DLC.

SpoilerI don't disagree with you about clearing out old inventory. Sure, when it comes to the last gen games, of course that's why you see fewer PS4 and Xbox One games.
But to look only at that doesn't explain the clearly reduced floor space to blu-rays and DVDs, and the significantly fewer sales and inventory selection offered by stores like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy this BF. This is not just about Covid-19; it's clear from the ads that retailers aren't offering as much physical media. And even when they do, they're not flying off the shelves. Target, for example, has had Disney blus on sale for $10 for weeks. A year ago, those would have sold out everywhere, but now with Disney+, all of them remain in stock.
Most of us know that physical media is well on its way to niche territory, where those interested in buying them will pay premiums to smaller publishers who'll be able to demand higher prices. I think that sucks, but that's just the way it's going.
Frankly, for video games, it's going even faster. That's because greedy publishers love the idea of selling digital licenses, where gamers own nothing, and retailers are cut out entirely. Add patches and DLC transactions, and you quickly see why games have moved so quickly to digital in just the past few years.
Xbox Game Pass and Microsoft generally is certainly one of the biggest reasons the industry has gone this direction at this pace, and it's only going to go faster with Series S. Heck, they even convinced Sony to release a disc-less version.
All of this is to say that clearing out old inventory isn't the real reason. Floor space for games and movies have been cut down by every big retailer. It's only a matter of time before your only option to buy anything non-AAA will be online.
My guy no one wants to read a wall of text. I saw a different post of yours going on some political tirade....just, if you want to write it all out, at least spoiler it and get it out of your system.

That sounds awful. I just mass a ton of games and play whatever I feel like on a given night and don’t worry about whatever never gets played before I die.
I like my way, it works with my brain. It allows me to fully enjoy each game. As I said, to each their own. Nothing but respect to each persons choice.

I am in awe of your restraint?
I’ve gotta know....how do you choose the game each time?
It took me awhile. I basically went and crunched down and finished all the games that I wanted to do in my backlog. Anything that I felt didn't value my time or if I caught myself forcing myself to enjoy them, I cut them out and got rid of it. It was hard, but I'm much happier with where I am at. Now, I look at these sales and go, "ok, will I have time to play them soon?" If yes, I tend to wait for another sale to see if I truly want them. If no, well I just move on. As for picking a game, once I am nearing the end of a game, I can assess what I am in the mood for and gauge from there. If something has caught my eye, I'll look at it again. A trailer, browse CAG or reddit to see if it would interest me. Then I will just either buy the game or utilize GamePass. Thats what I did with Hollow Knight. I beat Star Wars: Jedi Fallen and wanted something much different. Kept hearing great things about Hollow Knight and bam...26 hours later, I am still hooked and loving it. To each their own with this stuff.

How are your backlogs fairing this year?
I only have Hollow Knight, which I am currently playing. I don't have anything after that to play...I don't have a backlog. Sometimes I envy people with more games, but then I realize it would give me an insane amount of anxiety. So I just grab one game at a time until completion.

My one goal before I die, is to beat every Yakuza game and spinoff ever made.
Great goal. It took me about 3 years to accomplish, but I that was waiting for 5 to come over to US and 6 to come out and 0. Yakuza Dead Souls is fun. Judgment is phenomenal (same world). You should carve the time out to make it happen.
Reading some of these posts about backlogs are crazy. My OCD and anxiety got the better of me and I crunched down for about 4 years to burn through my backlog. Then I vowed to never let that happen again and I only buy 1-2 games at a time until I beat them. My mental health thanks me tremendously. Plus, I spend very little on games because I don't buy whatever/whenever. I commend you all for your insane backlogs, but not for me.

Don't laugh at me but is the old The Bureau: Xcom Declassified worth 20 on the psn store? I missed it back in the day and it looks really cool.

I honestly may be the only one that enjoyed the game. It's a little clunky compared to Xcom: Enemy Unknown but if you like the sort of '60's Mad Men vibe, I'd go for it in general. It's a good game for what it is...but is it worth $20? No. It goes on sale from time to time for WAAAAY cheaper and if you don't care if it's digital, Gamestop has it used for $4.99. Totally worth it for $5.

Reading some of these posts makes me thankful I burned through my backlog. I've got maybe 3 games in my backlog. The only one that isn't current gen is Little King's Story. Other than that it's just Ni No Kuni 2 and Yakuza 6. I had quite a few games but I was pretty cut throat with them and either I just got rid of them or I beat them. i just couldn't deal with the overwhelming feeling that they caused me. I completely stopped buying games for about a year and just forced myself to sit with the games I own and really assess whether I really wanted to spend my valuable time with some of them. If I did, I made myself beat it before the next game. It worked for me.
Even then though, this E3 seems a bit lacking overall. I mean, I think Captain Spirit looks pretty awesome and Cyberpunk 2077..but that is about all for now. With Yakuza 2 coming out over the summer then RDR 2, I just have to pick and chose more wisely. Ah well.

Just got back from my target and got those at the $4.98 price as well. I was about to post it, but see someone else was able to find some too. Great deal for a fun game.
