#14004619 BestBuy Enforcing Removal of GCU If You Go Past 3 Game Limit

Posted by thesuzukimethod on 04 June 2018 - 03:08 PM

Oh boy, 5 more pages of whining to read. Keep it up fellas.

it's the same 5 pages every time.

-i got banned, unfair!

-you deserved it.

-i had a bunch of stuff attached to that account!

-so?

-I'm never shopping at best buy again

-The old GCU was better.

-GCU price should only count on first 3

-Who buys more than 3 copies of a game?

-I did, i bought 87.

-Shoulda read the TOS (links to TOS)

rinse and repeat.

at least now people can start to get a glimpse of what socialist-style rationing will bring you. Now imagine that with food, water, electricity, housing, et al. Beat Best Buy to the punchline. Inundate them with calls, emails, social posts and don't only throw their shitty membership back in their face but let them know you won't do business with them ever again

this is literally capitalism at work.  dont be daft.

I am receiving this message when I tried to add to cart: You are not eligible to purchase or download this content. using PC PSN Store.

I got the same thing but was able to buy it (with 20% discount!) on PSN via PS4

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. You'd be getting Detroit + Heavy Rain for $56 (unless you're taxed) which is a good price if Detroit ends up being a good enough game to get at full price.

It definitely is not 100% clear (unfortunately).  If you add the digital deluxe edition to your cart it says the "bundle" will not be available after May 24, which could be b/e the pre-order will (obviously) be over, or could be b/c Heavy Rain is dropped from the bundle.

I was surprised that for only $10 more you get a $30 game, so i kinda think HR is going to end up being a pre-order bonus...but not sure.

#13997635 Best Buy GCU is being Discontinued?

Posted by thesuzukimethod on 20 May 2018 - 05:26 PM

What exactly is special about this newsweek article that keeps getting posted? Besides a blatant attempt to give them clicks?

There are no revelatory bits of information to be gleaned from there. It is just speculation. Stop giving them clicks.

It's not speculation, it's analysis that helps explain with data.

you dont have to click on it.

someone probably posted this but i'm not digging through 50 pages to find out (sorry):

article raises a really good point i've wondered about myself.

http://www.newsweek....ruggling-935477

given rise to speculation that certain game publishers don’t look too kindly on retailers undercutting suggested retail pricing on hot products. After all, if a game like Detroit can be purchased on Amazon for $47, why would anyone purchase a digital version on the PlayStation Network for $59?

It’s unclear if the end of Gamers Club Unlocked has anything to do with this silent retailer feud, but any pressure from prominent distributors certainly wouldn’t bolster the program’s internal viability.

They usually only do $10 certs for the fall games, Madden usually is the first one of the season.

not to go all "actually" on you, but...this isn't quite right.  Games are clustered around the fall, but that's when more games release.  Dying Light, Witcher, Evolve, all had $10 certs (plus a few others I didn't buy).  I'm hoping the deals are coming just not announced yet, but this time last year, alot of the games for the calendar year were, well, on the calendar (including the fall releases).

This is not a game for those who like games

what a dumb thing to say.  I like games, and i like this game.  (in fact i really liked it).

I concur. There is no legitimate reason to own the game. Quickly over and zero replayability. And unlike a good movie you can watch over and over again, there isn't a single reason in my eyes to return to the game. Nothing was explained, everything plot was left a cliffhanger.

well, that's, like, your opinion man.

i actually really liked it.  didn't hold my hand.  told an interesting story.  And i like how it ended!  less of a cliffhanger than leaving the universe open for more story.  I hate when games pad out with extra crap.  this one didnt.

this is actually a quite good game.  not perfect, but i think the review anti-hype about it hurt it a little bit - unfairly.  game is not long, replay is limited, but one of the better experiences of next gen if you like single player story/shooter hybrids that look amazing.

there's no surprise that it's dropped to 40....there will be (surprise) if it goes down much more in the next 6 mos.

#12564844 Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked Permanent Price Drop - $30

Posted by thesuzukimethod on 13 March 2015 - 03:02 AM

Don't mind me, I'm just here to read the comments.

What's up CAG? I see our price change on GCU has stirred some conversation.

The 20% isn't going away folks... would be kind of silly to have a press release go out calling out that benefit and then take it right away, don't you think?

And if you're worried about the company being around, might want to do a quick search on the latest earnings release.

To all of the current GCU members, thank you for your support. For all the new members who come in at the new price, welcome to the club!

for those talking out your ass about the discount going away, remember, we have a best buy rep here on cag that helps with question...including this post.

Posted by thesuzukimethod on 05 March 2015 - 03:34 PM

Wow...now I'm not so sad I missed the last sale. MGS5 CE and DMC4SE will cover the cost of the membership, but I can't think of any other games coming out that I'd want to buy day 1 in the next 2 years? Maybe FF15?

it all depends on how you want to play (and how much time you have).  i wanted to try evolve out when the game still had a player population.  so with GCU discount % + the $10 RZ cert, they paid me $2-3 to buy the game day 1 and trade it in 2ish weeks later.

they are likely fine, as their used profit makes up that difference, and they likely had some promotional deal with the publisher (tied to the RZ cert...not to mention, that RZ cert gets spent at BBUY and nowhere else).

You can use certs online, but I can't confirm if you can use them for an online pre-order.

i can (confirm).

online GCU pre-orders have been 100% painless for me and I have always received my RZ certs/bonuses, etc.
