#14319026 Super Mario 3D All Stars (Physical) up for preorder

Posted by PennStateFencer on 04 September 2020 - 02:36 AM

I just preordered from Amazon and got $15 off for using Chase Reward points for part of the purchase total.  You have to click some button first for the offer to actually activate.  It's worth looking into if you have a Chase Freedom card.

Here is the link for the offer if you don't see it.

#14305138 Nintendo eShop Deals - 2/11: Capcom/Namco/Ubisoft Sales! $20 Hades,...

This is off topic since it isn't digital, but if anyone has been looking for Ring Fit Adventure it is currently in stock for shipping at Best Buy.  I was just able to grab one.

#14226328 Best Buy Black Friday 2019 Ad Deals

Posted by PennStateFencer on 07 November 2019 - 05:55 PM

Thanks for the suggestion, I might wait for a digital sale on the titles I'm not 100% sure on like Nioh. I actually played TLoU on a PS3 so I don't need it on PS4 but I got the Uncharted Collection at Target($5.98 for anyone intrigued) and I'm liking it so I'll probably get UC4 too. I'd like to get Bloodborne but I see that it doesn't come with the DLC here which I'm kind of a stickler about. Might get Yakuza 0 and Horizon too.

If you have PS+, you can download Nioh for free right now.

#14076170 JCPenney Black Friday Ad

Posted by PennStateFencer on 05 November 2018 - 10:53 PM

I don’t know anything about the JC penny air mattress, but I got the Serta one on Black Friday from Target a few years ago. It’s decent for the price. I’ve had friends and relatives use it when they stay at my house, and I’ve used it a few times while traveling. Doesn’t deflate halfway through the night like my old aerobed used to.

#13418782 Target Cartwheel Video Game Deals July 31st through August 6th

Posted by PennStateFencer on 31 July 2016 - 11:17 AM

12 GB is useless. (Imo)

12 GB of storage is useless, sure.  The 12 GB model isn't a bad deal for $100 though.  For anyone that has a 2.5" hard drive laying around the house from a previous upgrade, all you have to do is pick up a mounting bracket (~$5 on Amazon) and you can install a larger hard drive. I did that myself during the 25% off Cartwheel deal from a few months ago.  If I knew it would get to 50% I definitely would have waited, but it was still a good deal for a backup.  We're getting to the point where PS3 inventory will likely start disappearing from stores, so now is the time to grab a new one if you either never got around to owning one, or you want to stash one in case your original breaks down.

#13408394 Best Buy Black Friday in July Sale

Posted by PennStateFencer on 21 July 2016 - 02:10 AM

I'm not sure why people keep going over this. THESE ARE A BLACK FRIDAY SALE FOR ELITE MEMBERS IN JULY. SO TECHNICALLY, THESE DEALS ARE BLACK FRIDAY DEALS AND GCU DOES NOT WORK ON BLACK FRIDAYS AS STATED IN THEIR UPDATED GCU TERMS. WHAT IS NOT UNDERSTOOD ABOUT THIS? This thread has gone on for pages and majority of the posts are about this. Let's talk about what we picked up if anything. $23.99 for first part Nintendo games and $15.99 for Final Fantasy Explorers were the best deals for me Imo.

I'm pretty sure you're the one that isn't understanding.  Look up about 2 posts.  GCU is stacking, it just isn't specifically saying that GCU is being applied like it normally does.  GCU and non-GCU members are getting different prices.  It seems pretty obvious to me what's going on...

I bet Best Buy Corporate did this on purpose.  Change one minor aspect of the check out process (showing that GCU is being applied) and the entire CAG community loses their minds and turns on each other.  Get out the tin foil hats everybody.

#13351062 Changes to Best Buy GCU

Posted by PennStateFencer on 01 June 2016 - 08:48 PM

I don't want to freak everyone out but there is a major change that they seem to have not mentioned to the public:

GCU will no longer work on Black Friday deals. :-(

I noticed this too and was trying to track the thread back down to post it.  Looks like I got beat to the punch.  That is a major negative.  Who doesn't like stacking on top of already decent deals?

#12491201 Best Buy: GCU is $30 this week and next in store only

Posted by PennStateFencer on 12 February 2015 - 11:08 AM

If it makes it any easier then look at GCU for what it is, a paid shortcut to a price drop you can get for free if you just have some patience.

Thats all it really is, you are paying BB for the ability to get a price drop on games that will come around if you just wait a little bit. Ok a new game for 60 is 48 with GCU, if you just wait a little bit the game will be less than that anyway. Not to mention other stores have sales, promos and whatnot as well. Like all the people who jumped for joy at getting GTA5 on ps4 for 48 at launch, I continued to play other games and just waited, 2 or 3 weeks ago I got it for 35 off ebay brand new. Same thing with mario kart 8, I just wait like 3 weeks and got it from amazon for 45 when the price dropped for a short while across the board and used discover card points to get it for like 20.

Plus youre limited because you cant use it on price matches, use it on hardware and its only good with bestbuy and so on.

I save more money than anyone with GCU just by having a little patience.

If you don't want GCU that's fine, but your logic is somewhat flawed.  You mention Mario Kart, but the vast majority of Nintendo games rarely go on sale, and when they do, it typically isn't much cheaper.  GCU makes those Nintendo games cheaper.  I got the Smash bundle for $80 and more than made back what I paid ($15 phone deal from a while back) while picking up an item which is now hard to find.  You also get the 20% off of Amiibo's, although I realize that isn't for everyone.  I've only bought 2 myself.

You can also be patient and wait for Best Buy to have a sale.  Wait for the game to get down to $40, $30, or $20 and then use your additional 20% off of that.  The GCU discount stacks with Black Friday prices, so I was able to pick up quite a bit for prices I've never seen anywhere else brand new.

#12370652 Best Buy Ad: 12/28 - 1/3 [50% Trade-In Bonus on All Video Games]

Posted by PennStateFencer on 30 December 2014 - 03:25 PM

I'm curious about this as well. Is it OOP or something?

I'm fairly certain Pikmin is out of print.  I've been trying to track down a copy as well.  Best Buy has it new for $54 and used for $35, but not for shipping of course.  Haven't been able to find a copy in a store.

#12211967 ($6.99) Gamer's Club Unlocked Membership(+2 Year extension to curren...

Posted by PennStateFencer on 05 November 2014 - 02:09 AM

Fucking hell, Best Buy. Way to make my $60 GCU purchase back in March look like I got ripped off. (Though that's more than paid for itself many times over by now.)

However, I did see someone get denied this promo tonight while picking up my Disney Infinity pre-order (which was a fiasco in itself) because the phone apparently needed to be at least $100 according to the ad.

The fact that it has dropped so much ($120 > $99 > $60 > $30 w/ $40 game) is the reason why I'm just sticking with the 2 year membership and not stacking.  For all I know, there could be similar promotions (or even better) at some point within the next two years.  Best Buy extending the $30 GCU w/ $40 game deal for a few weeks is a good indicator of that.  No reason to give Best Buy more of my money right now.  Plus, others have mentioned that there is no guarantee they won't nerf GCU or go the way of Circuit City at some point.  In the grand scheme of things it's probably worth the risk, but I don't like wasting money, especially this close to Black Friday.  I want to stretch the gaming budget as much as possible.

It's great that some people are set up through 2020, but I doubt it's really necessary.

#11845761 Gamestop: Smash Bros Wii U game, gamecube controller, controller adapter bund...

Posted by PennStateFencer on 16 June 2014 - 02:16 AM

It seems like there is some confusion about the Gamecube controllers.  The wired one from the bundle will connect to the adapter which connects to the USB ports of the Wii U.  This means the entire connection is wired, which from what I have heard is preferred by "professional" Smash players.  It also makes more sense to make the end of the new controller a gamecube socket and to have a gamecube controller adapter so people who already have 3-4 Gamecube controllers don't have to buy 3-4 new controllers.  I'm no Nintendo defender, but this is an instance where they're not screwing people over, yet some are still finding something to complain about...

If you don't want to buy an adapter and don't care about a wired vs. wireless connection, at E3 Nintendo showed off some new Gamecube style controllers which seem to plug directly into a Wii remote just like the old classic controller.  Here is a link with some pictures and info about the wireless ones.  Gamestop also has these wireless ones on their website for $25 each.  That seems reasonable for custom controllers with character designs.

Posted by PennStateFencer on 10 June 2014 - 03:14 AM

I just read through the fine print, and for the $50 is this really ANY working console?  I've got 3 Atari 2600's.  Could probably part with one of those bad boys.  I'll even toss in a copy of E.T.  I hear it's pretty good.

#11829134 [PSA]Target $15 off ANY GAME with $1 Preorder sale

Posted by PennStateFencer on 10 June 2014 - 02:54 AM

I stopped by Target after work and picked up Rayman Legends Wii U for $6.  I originally picked it up on Black Friday for $20, but I traded it in at Target during that Triple Value craziness for about $35 since it was just too much to pass up and I knew the price would probably drop soon.  I had no idea it would be this soon or that there would be such a crazy deal.  The customer service rep didn't even question the low price and I was out the door.

I decided to stop back about an hour ago after practice to try and get COD Ghosts PS3 for $6.  This time around it was someone different and she seemed confused at first.  She tried running it through again and got the same result, and then let me pay the $6.

I don't know how the flippers around here do this all the time.  I felt guilty buying two games that I plan on keeping with this promotion, and I couldn't even bring myself to mention the cartwheel app since $6 each was more than a good enough deal for me.
