#13798780 Reduced Price Guide Thread XIV (FAQ in 2nd Post)

Hard to find, hard on the cover, and had me hard in the car!

(I am not sexually attracted to paper. I just can't avoid bad dad jokes.)

Anyone actually trade in games with the coupon today or is everyone waiting for the b.u.m.p.?

I traded in one old 360 game (I had upgraded it to X1 version) under $5 I know won't get bumped just to make sure they'd take the 50% coupon off my phone. I was going in to pick up a hold anyway.

Worked like a charm. Now to wait till Friday.

Since the trade talk is at a lull right now, here is some info that might help you prep for the next opportunity.

You can get a MINIMUM $75 Best Buy gift card (and a $75 trade-in receipt coupon toward the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro if you care) when you trade in ANY laptop that will power on and boot to Windows (any version). Limit one per trade-in per person (not tested multiple visits/days yet).

Quick and easy way to turn that shitty old laptop we all have lying around in the closet (or picked up for $10 at a pawn shop/Goodwill) into "seed money" for the next opportunity.

Valid in store only 6/25/17-7/15/17

I would encourage this thread to "adopt" some moderation/janitors to keep the conversation "on target" and to prevent information staying up that lurkers seem to want to spread everywhere in an effort to hurt trades at Gamestop.

I'd even happily volunteer time if it helped (not like I'm special, but I sure can read and keep my mouth shut, lol).

It's so easy to hang around, get info, and learn the ropes. Anyone needing it spoon-fed to them like some posting here are requesting are just trying to "jump line" without paying their dues. We all learned through experience and trial/error, and we turned out fine.

There should be more effort to convert people into the community if they want to learn (a slow and steady approach) and less spoon-feeding those just wanting a quick cash infusion, which hurts the community. If your first month trading is nearing limits, you're doing it wrong anyway. Got to build rapport with your stores and their staff, and they will look out for you.

It'd be a lot easier to stay up-to-date here with reading the thread if a lot more of it was deleted (as it should be).

But if they really gave a shit at the corporate level

While I do think that this promo was intentional to boost the Gamestop numbers right at the end of the Quarter/Year to help Gamestop look better on Wall Street, I also think the major intent behind this is that Gamestop has, with one huge push, now effectively rewritten the conversation from "Gamestop rips you off in trades" to "you can make money trading games to Gamestop."

How much do you think an ad campaign to change that impression with the general public would have cost? It would have been huge, and probably even then not been very effective.

Now, though, everyone is talking about Gamestop and trading games, and digging out their old games to refresh Gamestop stock levels. I'm sure they "lost" money (but on paper, how much did they really lose, as many are carrying this balance while Gamestop sells the games that helped them gain it?), but whatever they lost in trades, it's not nearly what a campaign this successful would have cost them.

Went on vacation a few days earlier this week and came back to endless pages here to read. Caught up.

Logged on yesterday to see what was changed/bumped for the weekend and found myself behind 20 pages. Caught up.

Came back from doing my rounds on a Bump Weekend only to find myself 20 pages behind. Tried catching up, and the thread got nuked.

In the time it took me to notice the thread I was *currently reading to catch up* got nuked, I find the new thread is already 5 pages ahead of me. Probably more before I finish typing.

I used to lurk, and hate people posting anything off-topic, or not reading the thread/faq, but honestly, at this point, it's getting impossible to keep up.

Can we have a "Trade Discussion" thread for talking up deals (questions) and our reactions to them, and have a *HEAVILY MODERATED* thread of just straight info?

Because there is way too much signal to noise now. Even this post shouldn't be here. :-#

 minimum 100 posts

Don't do that part, please. I know to keep my mouth shut when I don't have anything of value to say!

I'd hate to add some reason to encourage people to spam up the place to hit some goal. Thanks!

You just copy the ending and add it to the normal website. For example, like this.
