#14312982 Steam+ Deals Mega Thread (All PC Gaming Deals)

I won't let being a couple days late to the party prevent me from saying that GTAV holds the title of most overrated game I've ever played. I got through maybe 15 hours of it and it was:
"We're crime guys! Let's go do crimes! Wow, we sure did screw up that crime! Now someone is stealing our lunch money and giving us a wedgie. But we're crime guys! Let's go do crimes!..."
Over and over again, broken up by the hilarity of some middle-aged guy's slutty daughter flipping him off or Trevor breaking comic barriers by banging a stuffed animal and pooping. Total Lulz!!

I'm not here to tell anyone how to play or enjoy a game, but I don't think very many people approach GTA expecting it to have some masterful, compelling narrative or anything like that. The missions are mainly there to set up action movie-like set pieces, I don't really think they're meant to be taken seriously as part of ongoing character-development arc or anything like that. I mean, there's even a point in the story where Franklin points out that he's still largely doing the same shit (dirty jobs for other people) after meeting Michael and Trevor, than he was before he met them. Besides, did anyone really go into the story thinking any of the characters would "see the error of his ways" and stop doing criminal shit? That would defeat the whole purpose of the game. Since their inception, GTA has always been a crime simulator (it's in the name ffs). The reason I have so many hours in the game is not because of it's amazing story, but because of how fun it is to Fuck around in the open world (which, say what you want about the story,  the world is expertly crafted). Hell, the whole idea of the "open world sandbox" was spawned by the GTA franchise. It's even more fun playing in that sandbox with friends online, which is easy to do with an invite only session.

I see this game in much the same way I see Always Sunny in Philadelphia - it's about terrible people doing terrible things, none of the characters ever learn anything or become better people, and much of the humor can be considered crass or low-brow, but the way it wholeheartedly and unabashedly embraces that is precisely what makes it enjoyable (at least for me).

I think Angry Joe brings a good point though that you can't launch with $20 skins. If you first establish yourself as a good game, and then release cosmetic DLC after you've built up the fanbase who will buy it because they enjoy the game, sure. But launching with $20 skins makes me think that they don't really care about making the game good, they are more interested in making some short-term cash before moving onto the next thing. Like they did with Battlefront and Battlefront II.

Business-wise, it's a smart move. But I can see why people would be upset over it. It's a symptom of a bigger issue.

I dunno, I'd still consider Epic Game store as a "disruptive competitor" in the same way MoviePass was. Both started off with massive acclaim - I remember when EGS launched, people lauded it for it's larger share of the cut for developers, and possibly a steam competitor... but like MoviePass, they found that business model unsustainable and started implementing one anti-consumer policy after another. And while they did eventually run themselves into the ground, it did shake up the market. Movie theatres and other third party companies started offering their own "watch x movies per week" programs, obviously not in the same retarded cash-burning way MoviePass did it. MoviePass is the modern day Icarus - got too close to the sun, then crashed and burned. But I digress.

I feel like EGS is the same. Honestly, it's not a "real" competitor to steam and will run itself into the ground sooner or later. But recently there has been a slow trend towards "exclusives" on the PC, like with Destiny 2 exclusive to Battlenet. I think this Metro Exodus on EGS is the "tipping point" that shows that exclusives on PC are a thing, and are here to stay. And why the Fuck not? Again, exclusives sell. The Nintendo Switch had a tiny library at launch and then went on to become the fastest selling console during the holiday season precisely because it's exclusives were so good and enticing. Obviously Metro is probably not that game that will get people to switch, or even get them to start, using EGS but the unmistakable fact is, we're going to start seeing a lot more client/storefront exclusives on PC.

I mean, maybe my take on the situation is completely wrong, but there's more than one way to react to something than "ermagerd DAE EPIC BAD! EA BAD!! BLIZZ BAD!!!!"

Everyone is trying to be the new Netflix or Steam. I think competition is a good thing, if only for the fact that it forces the entrenched monopoly to (usually) make changes in order to stay competitive. Whether the competitors last long is a moot point; as long as it encourages change (hopefully positive ones).

And to be fair, "exclusives" is the way the gaming industry has worked since time immemorial. Want to play a mario/pokemon game? Get a nintendo console. Want to play Halo? Xbox. In fact, I'd argue that the main reason playstation is kicking xbox's ass this generation is due to all the cool exclusives on the playstation platform. It's clearly an effective way of luring consumers onto your platform, so why wouldn't Epic do it? They'd be stupid not to.

Tyranny and Shadow Tactics were both in high tiers before, right? I’m not misremembering that?

Tyranny has never been bundled, Shadow Tactics was in a Humble Monthly and two other Humble Bundles in the top tier.

Honestly if we'd all stopped buying games today and just played what was in our backlog, it'd easily last us several years, up to a decade, depending on how big the backlog is.

But who are we kidding. Nobody plays games. We just collect them.

I think we are such a sarcastic lot that we just decided it would just be more efficient to assume everything is sarcasm rill proven otherwise.

Normally I would agree, but this is gilby we're talking about here. Last time I checked, he unironically supports Groupees.

I think perhaps Twitch has the potential of rising above those options, though.

Am I missing something here? Are we not doing yellow comic sans anymore? Which, that's fine, whatever, but if we're doing a new thing and nobody told me, that I'd have a problem with.

I was reading the descriptions on some of those Chuck Tingle books (I know, I know) and the amount of times he uses the word "butt" makes me think he's a 6th grader.

So naturally I look him up on wikipedia, when;

Tingle began his career by writing dinosaur erotica and expanded to stories based on unicorns, Bigfeet, and various anthropomorphized objects and even concepts.

So here are some more of his gems...

  • My Billionaire Triceratops Craves Gay Ass
  • Glazed by the Gay Living Donuts
  • Pounded in the Butt by My Book "Pounded in the Butt by My Own Butt"
  • Reamed by My Reaction to the Title of This Book
  • Professor T-Rex Teaches Me Gayness
  • Bigfoot Settlers Claim My Butthole
  • Lonely Author Pounded by Dinosaur Social Media Followers
  • The State of California Stalks My Gay Butthole
  • Oppressed in the Butt by My Inclusive Holiday Coffee Cups
  • Pounded in the Butt by My Book "Pounded in the Butt by My Book 'Pounded in the Butt by My Own Butt'"
  • Pharma Bro Pounded in the Butt by T-Rex Comedian Bill Murky and a Clan of Triceratops Rappers Trying to Get Their Album Back
  • Leonardo Decaprico Finally Wins His Award And It Pounds Him in the Butt
  • Feeling the Bern in My Butt
  • Pounded by the Pound: Turned Gay by the Socioeconomic Implications of Britain Leaving the European Union
  • Slammed in the Butt by Domald Tromp's Attempt to Avoid Accusations of Plagiarism by Removing All Facts or Concrete Plans from His Republican National Convention Speech
Some of these titles are fucking hilarious. There's too many to list, so peruse away. Although it seems he started to run out of steam, because his last 5 books are;
  • Wednesday Pounds Me in the Butt
  • Thursday Pounds Me in the Butt
  • Friday Pounds Me in the Butt
  • Saturday Pounds Me in the Butt
  • Sunday Pounds Me in the Butt

Not having a good week, I guess?

What is the longest amount of time you would wait in line for Little Caesar's under any circumstances? Mine's 3 minutes.

I find that the time it takes to smoke a joint is also the perfect amount of time to wait for a Little Caesar's pizza.

The best deal on COD WW2 is to not buy it all because it's a trash game.

The only ini file I have had to edit for a pc game in ages has been to enable nude patches in smut.

I think this right here is the answer.

PC gaming has access to deviant smut games where you can seduce your step-mother and step-sister into being your sex slaves. Can you do that on consoles? No?

Check and mate, bitches.

PoE is great (at least it was a few years ago when I played it, heard it's only gotten much better), but that game is so overwhelming for a new player. A game halfway between PoE and Diablo 3 would be perfect: not too simple, not too complicated.

Grim Dawn is a nice in-between. It has the whole "dual class" system à la Titan Quest. Lots of build variety with that but it's not like PoE where you need a PhD to figure out how/where to allocate your skills.
