They’ve gotta avoid the crossover with Game Pass if they want to keep these appealing. I know it’s an “own vs rent” scenario, but the value just isn’t there for me if I can play it on Game Pass.

+1

when so many people have gamepass for at least a year or 2 for only a couple bucks, at this point they really need to have no GP games. What they could do is focus on games that have just left GP, you get people who either missed them or enjoyed them and now dont have them

Trying to decide between Middle Earth and DiRT Rally 2.0.  My rig won't run either, but I need to make a selection since I've already picked the others.

Dirt2, if you're looking for the economical choice. Its a much newer game, and has only recently started getting good discounts. Meanwhile shadow of war is much older, and the version in the bundle is not even the definitive edition, only the base edition. The DE has already been 10$ and probably cheaper. So if you ever did still want SoW you'd be able to find the better version, cheaper, sooner, than dirt2

I don't get why people aren't fond of modern gaming laptops.

Especially when you can get laptops jam-packed w/ power like this for $900, which is an easy 1080p60+fps laptop - https://www.walmart....660Ti/685182150

Because the majority of people just dont need a laptop. For 900$ you can get a pre built desktop with a processor thats 20-30% better then the one in that laptop, and same goes for the gpu

The only time Ive seen people actually *need* a laptop have been in work environments, people who spend the majority of their time traveling such as military and salespeople, or people who feel a need to be able to write their screenplays in a starbucks. Hell I didnt need one at all for school. Nothing useful has ever come from being able to game on the go, except possibly annoying people around you.

Its just a cost/perf thing, if you are actually buying this thing to game on as its primary role aside from surfing and email (or even anything processing intensive), or are going to be using it at home the majority of the time anyway, then why not just get the better bang for the buck that will also last longer spec wise.  If you want something to be able to surf and email with on the go, then just get a tablet in a price range you consider fine, Ive used an ipad for years for travel/couch and never felt a need for anything more, can even remotely login to my desktop if I feel a need to do something there

Good catch. Weirdly, I've been playing the heck out of Forza Horizon 2 until recently. 3 and 4 almost seem like they're TOO big. However, 4 is a lot of fun, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I haven't delved into the expansions much. I thought the Hot Wheels in 3 would be more fun than it actually is. It's definitely a novelty, but the tracks with loop-the-loops and jumps over water are actually a bit annoying.

Yea I dont think you're alone in that. I love FH3, and expected to love the hot wheels dlc but it was a big let down, and Ive heard the same from a lot of people, it just wasnt that fun. I personally like blizzard better

For FH4 its been the opposite, love the lego expansion but fortune island is a big fat meh

Cool I picked this up. Anyone have any opinions on the g512 keyboard it's on sale for $50 seems like a good deal as well

Looking at it I assume its the newer version of the g810, which I have. I do like it a lot. It uses logitech's own switches which tend to be a lot quieter than other mechanicals, but its also a different feel. Been using it for 1-2 years now and like it, plus having all logitech stuff narrows down the excess software running to one program

Though it does look like they now offer 3 different types of switches, and that says its for the 'clicky' version, which I assume makes a lot more noise than the 'tactile', which sounds like the original logitech switches that have a switch point you can feel but not hear

FWIW, while this article places the blame on Microsoft, it seems more like it's the devs fault for getting the final version of the game to Microsoft so late. They had to have known there was a certification process that could take up to a couple days.

Looks like they finally fessed up that is their fault and not MS's via their forums:

oh for sure, I dont particularly agree with that part. By this point with as large as MS is Im sure they have this down to a science and snapshot probably missed their deadline, or had something wrong with the packaging or whatever. Just using it as a reference for the delay

Is it just me or do Black Friday deals suck this year?  Across the board.  Even checking out clothing or general goods from Amazon, department stores, etc.

This is always how its been. Couple wizbang discounts on cheap crap to get people in the door/site, everything else is the same discount its always been the entire year

Can you link to the hardocp thread you're referencing? After looking at this drive and visiting their extremely basic "site" (

clicking Registration only gets you a 404) I emailed them.

I think it was somewhere in this long ass thread, https://hardforum.co...center.1978390/

Just searching for amazon in there seems like plenty did order from amazon, so maybe it was just the non-US people or something?

Everything you said is technically correct. There is, however, an opinion that none of this makes any *practical* difference. Yes the endurance is less, but you're not likely to get anywhere near the endurance limit before the tech is obsolete. True, the benchmark speed is less, but they have firmware/cache tricks that mask that for everyday tasks. Really, the only time you'll see the SSD limited to the QLC speed is if you are doing SSD to SSD cloning/copying.  There is a youtube guy (Tech Deals) who goes *really* in depth (some might say *too* in depth) on the 660p.  I'd suggest listening to him before just writing off these QLC SSDs.

Yea I read them all (and watched). Id agree that in the future it might not be worth writing them off. However for right now, with almost no price difference, why get the lower spec product? If it was 75%, 50%, etc the price of TLC then sure an argument can be made, but when they are virtually the same price like they are right now there's no advantage to going QLC

Id rather take the faster longer life drive for a couple bucks more that I could reuse in a new build as a system drive and not have to worry about its longevity

Also you can hit those speed drops the moment you fill up its cache space. If you start doing a large transfer (or installing a large game), you can easily bump up against the space reserved for caching and the performance drop is hit. This is not something you are going to see installing windows, which is many tiny files that can easily be flushed from cache and is not one continuous stream

His benchmarks are meh at best. Installing windows........... from a usb flash drive ...............  At best the only speed ups you get are during any unpacking stages that would have been done, and even then that speed up is only going to be on a fetch to put it in memory and the write back. GTAV is also a horrible demonstration of load times. You can look up tests people have done of regular ssd vs hdd load times on it and they are all over the place from 1min difference, to no difference, to 10sec difference

So you can still say, in the real world most people wont see a difference under some circumstances and not others, sure. But the price isnt there yet to justify QLC
