#12598083 CAGcast #401: Who SCARTed?

Posted by thrifty1 on 27 March 2015 - 08:15 PM

Bloodborne is by far the best game in the series. I dont think i can go back to playing dark souls games after bb.

It's actually more casual friendly than dark souls

-no more item weight to worry about

-hp pickups all over the place and extra ones you pickup go right to your storage bin

-fewer weapons to choose from but they all seem more powerful in general but theres still a ton of choices because of all the ways you can customize them and they transform

-if you spend your "insight points" (points earned from killiing bosses, helping others kill bosses or discovered on levels) you can summon other players to help you kill bosses and the game is ridiculously easy.

-apparently spending your "insight" points actually makes the game easier. the more insight you have, the harder it becomes so like pro players can keep helping newbies/accumulating points to face a harder game while people who just wanna relax can keep summoning and also enjoy the game spending their points to see the story. its pretty brilliant.

-it's now very, very easy to summon your specific friend. you go to network settings and set a password to your summon. if you and your friend use the same password, when you use the summon bell and they use theirs youll get matched together. i had no problem match making with my friend from ds/ds1/ds2 to kill a couple bosses together. party chat makes for some very strong coordination. it was also alot of fun exchanging secrets we learned about npcs/areas and the different turn of events depending on how you interact with them.

-nearly every level has a shortcut very close to the boss. so like you clear out an area and collect stuff to open a shortcut then theres no pressure if you dont kill the boss first attempt because you can get back easy or just spend your blood and take the shortcut to get to the boss. no penalty for dying as far as anyone can tell so far.

-Invasion mechanics don't begin until after you've killed like 7 or 8 bosses and are a good chunk through the game and your character is significantly developed.

I one shot the first boss. Difficultywise, i'd say its easier than the souls games your first time through because you get more health pickups and you can get your health back by attacking enemies after you get hit if youre fast enough.

Loading times are not that bad. I bought an ssd to speed up my load times and a patch will further improve.

Just play smart/careful and use your items like moltovs, poison knives when you come across something hard and the stakes are high blood wise. This game will only really punish you if you dont give it your attention. If you read the notes on the ground and are careful youll be fine.

Can already tell you that BB is my goty. Looks amazing. Blast to play. All the weapons special transformations are just sick. And then theres a beastmode and all the secrets to uncover with the npcs running around. alright back to bb.

#12517110 CAGcast #396: Day One Edition

Posted by thrifty1 on 20 February 2015 - 01:38 AM

Thanks so much for talking about gamersclub unlocked! I had forgotten I was a member.

I just saved a ton of money preordering Mortal Kombat X between the 20% off, a cert i had left over and a giftcard a relative didnt finish using. $34 on release day woohoo. Playing as Goro will be sweeet

Also ty to the cags who gave the heads up to renew 2 years ago for $15. Renewed it entirely with a cert.

I also passed on Evolve. I think it looks like a kller game and the 4v1 is an awesome idea. But i'll wait for the goty version with more of the dlc included. I already spend vast amounts of time on Destiny.

I'm betting The Order 1886 will be getting some steep pricecuts this year with all the negative publicity its been getting. I think they failed to market the game's value. I'll bite at the 30$ mark if its a 7-11 hour quality campaign. Perhaps they should have lowered the price to $40 or $50 on release. Money is tight and it's hard to justify big purchases with all the free ps plus games if i dont know ill be spending alot of time with them. Even the early reviews i've read now said it's only a good value if you beat it and sell it back. It's conflicting because they did a quality job on the psp god of war and it's probably a pretty good game. I just have a feeling it's going to get pricecut fast.

#11594624 Dark Souls 2 Official Guide (Future Press)

Posted by thrifty1 on 09 March 2014 - 10:42 AM

I'd highly recommend picking up this bad boy while you still can given how well the game has been selling and I usually NEVER buy guides. This just one of those games that's actually worth having the geeky info.

http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/0744015472

Even if they patch the game to rework balance like they did in Dark Souls 1 it is still insanely useful to look at strategy tips on bosses before you've beaten the game a billion times. The wiki won't be fully updated for many of the item stats/descriptions early on.

Also i would like to point out the resale value of the Dark Souls 1 Guide on amazon

http://www.amazon.co...ark souls guide

I believe I also got this one for $20 or $25 and the price went UP. I'd attribute it to the games being classics and the guides being pretty classy. Future Press did a solid job with the last one. Lot of interesting things to look at even if you've beaten the game. For every single enemy and boss it gives a lengthy strategy about what to do and avoid doing or how to attack it. Then they also break down every single attack the enemy does, how much damage each attack does, the type of damage, whether the attack tracks, the speed of the attack, the HP of the enemy, the souls you get off each enemy.

Plus there are very nice spreadsheets for every single item. They show the damage reductions for every upgrade level per each item. There are nice compiled lists for each boss soul to help you decide what you want to use it for. Locations of all the crystal lizards. Information on NPCs and what they can give you or drop if you kill them. They really do an excellent job of filling it with useful information so it's a book you go back to many times.

Really nice hard cover guides. Great for reading on the toilet.

I'd consider this a deal that many will overlook. Much better than spending $100 or whatever dollars on the statue.

#11557367 Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes pricedrop

Posted by thrifty1 on 25 February 2014 - 03:51 PM

The XB1 and PS4 versions of MGS Ground Zeroes officially dropped to $29.99 for the PS4 and XB1 to match the PS3/360 versions.

Amazon hasn't updated yet, but Best Buy updated. With GCU i'm getting it for $23. Although I had to manually cancel my previous preorder and order it again to get the lower price.

Figured I'd post this since nobody else has and they didn't automatically lower the price of my original order for anyone else who also had it preordered.

Ah my bad they nailed this in the weekly PSN thread. I think it's good to have it separate too though because I glanced over that and these sales are pretty big.

#11393924 I quit my job to go full time indie!

Posted by thrifty1 on 28 December 2013 - 07:48 AM

You made the right decision. I quit my job making almost $20 an hour to PLAY video games. Wish I could tell you I was joking but i'm not. I reached a point where I had more money than I could possibly spend responsibly, no bills, no debt and a 50-60 game backlog which i have worked down to 40ish. lol. Honestly, I'd love to invest a good chunk of it right now, but i have a feeling that when the economy improves 2% and the stock market improves 27% in one year there is bound to be a correction where one could get a better deal.

Minimum wage guys are due for a raise. Anyone working their ass off right now will be shortchanged when they raise it and inflation kicks in as they tone down the bond buying imo. Do what you want with your life and kick ass at it.

And I can vouch for the linkedin account being worthwhile. Been offered 2 jobs recently through linkedin and a third job I was looking at required a link in addition to resume. Lot of headhunters use it, but I have also been contacted by companies directly.

#11339094 CAGcast #347: How to Avoid Back Pain and Disgust People

Posted by thrifty1 on 11 December 2013 - 04:44 AM

Originally I had the same mindset as cheapy on the whole "rather be using an actual controller than a handheld"...

But Flower on the Vita is probably the best version. I just got done 100%ing it because it had separate trophies and the sixaxis controls were much better on the Vita. I got the "pure" trophy for not taking damage on the first attempt. Probably an exception but there's one case where it was preferable. Plus there's no need to worry about the viewing angles with dat OLED. And nothin beats staying in a warm bed all day when it's 0 degrees outside.

One crappy thing about the WiiU controller screen is that you can't use it too far from the console. I can use it one room away but not two rooms away so the portability sucks. The only purpose for it is if someone else is using the tv or for minor gameplay stuff.

Someone should develop a screen protector that won't leave fingerprints on the Vita or sometype of glove/fingertip thing you can wear to keep from getting greasy fingerprints on the screen over time though. THey could probably make a lot of money off something like that not only for gaming but phones and tablets etc.

#11292067 Best Buy Gaming Headset Sale: Astro A50 $225, A40 $185. Turtle Beac...

I'm looking at buying at Amazon, since I have $400 waiting in credit. Where do I get a replacement plan there? And A40s or A50s?

Love my A40s. I've have had em for a few years now and they're good as new.

Solid deal. Great product and company.

A40s are wired and A50s are wireless.

if you spend time at getting mad everytime people do stuff like this youll never have time to enjoy life and youll waste a lot of energy that you could use making things better for yourself. just imagine all the shit that DOESNT get plastered in the news. thats the stuff you should be worried about.

#10909203 $19.97 PS Vita Power Grip $16.97 LBP Vita starter kit @ Gamestop

Posted by thrifty1 on 16 July 2013 - 01:09 AM

Get the $4- $5 one off new egg  or amazon. It is fantastic and won't screw up your Vita. I love it.

http://www.newegg.co...=9SIA0PG0BV1107

Can't go back to just playing it regularly. Especially in games like Soul Sacrifice where you play for extended periods. If you're only playing for like 1-2 hours then I wouldn't bother buying anything because my hands only got really cramped after a fair amount of playing.

#10616305 PlayStation 4 Pre-Order Thread *GREATNESS OUT NOW!*

Posted by thrifty1 on 11 June 2013 - 11:01 PM

where do you see if the ps4 you ordered is the launch edition or not??

I preordered yesterday first time it was available.

Very simple. Just go to the PS4 on amazon's page after you have logged in. Whichever version you are preordered for there will be a notification that you have an order already placed for the item.

I also preordered the minute it became available before there were different versions and i'm set for a launch edition. Looking forward to playing around with it and downloading the free indie games.

I still can't believe that we're paying less for a next gen console than a 16gb ipad. Sony rocks.

#10605367 Upgrading my ps3 hdd advice

Posted by thrifty1 on 08 June 2013 - 10:45 PM

I just bought it today and it hasn't shipped or charged me yet. After the advice you guys gave me I just cancelled it. I'll buy a new one just to be on the safe side.

What drive would you guys recommend or does it matter?

http://www.youtube.c...Jqcfgi9Rq6FpG7Q

Highly recommend it. It's working perfectly for me. I've had it since Black Friday of last year.Something like 920gb or 930gb space once installed. I doubt I ever fill it and I have a PS+ subscription. SO MANY FREE GAMES. AHHH.

He isn't joking about the screws being easy to strip. Mine stripped and I even used the proper mini screw driver. had to go to the hardware store and pick up new screws for 25 cents each.

I think I paid around $70 on blackfriday for this hard drive.
