Hey guys,

This is all weighing heavily on mind so I want to make one last post before I head to sleep.

I had no idea what can of worms I was opening by sending out $2 in lieu of the sold out Steelbooks.  If I could do it over again, I absolutely would do it differently and cancel the orders rather than attempt another poorly thought out solution.  I had no bad intentions.

We paid $5 each for the games from our supplier, and around $1 each for the Steelbooks.  We were making ~$1 profit on the Steelbook orders that shipped, we lost around $0.50 each on the orders that contained the $2 instead of the Steelbook.  I honestly did believe that people would be more upset if they didn't receive the game and so I did not cancel the orders.  If I could do it again, I would have canceled the orders and given the customers a chance to purchase the game at the $8.99 shipped price that we currently have available.

Regarding the chronological shipment of the orders, we ran out of the PS3 Steelbooks before the Xbox ones.  We had less of the PS3 cases to begin with, and the demand for them was a lot higher.  So there are people that ordered Xbox Steelbooks (and received them) an hour or two after people ordered PS3 Steelbooks (and did not receive them).

I'm not trying to make excuses.  I'm just giving you the truth on how I screwed this situation up.  I wish we could do it over, but I'm committed to fixing everyones' problems.  Please PM me or email me at help@gamedealdaily.com if you want to return the game for a full refund.  If you do choose to open a Paypal dispute, I have to decline the refund so that we can set up a product return for a full refund.  Everyone that wants a refund will get one, and your order will not cost you any money out of pocket.

Again, I'm sorry for what happened with this deal.  I feel bad that it has greatly upset some of you.  I want to fix your problems, so please don't hesitate to contact me.  With this message, I will no longer be visiting this thread.  It's tough to read some of the stuff said about me, our business, etc.  I know that they are a result of the poor decision I made regarding these orders, but I promise I did not intend to cause any of this frustration, disappointment, and anger.

If you want to discuss anything one on one, please PM me or email me.  I will make sure to keep up to date on emails and PMs over the next couple weeks to make sure that everyone receives their desired outcome.

Thanks

That's what is known as bait and switch.  As a retailer or a consumer, you should be well aware of it.  No excuses, no bullshit.  What you did was illegal.

That was absolutely not my intent.  We are working with any unhappy customers to set up returns for a full refund.  Next time we will be sure to cancel any orders that cannot be fulfilled 100% accurately.

This is the first time we've encountered a situation like this on the site.  I believed $2 would be a fair refund for the Steelbook, so that's the route we took.  I was obviously wrong to assume this, and if I could do it again I would just cancel the affected orders.  We lost money on those orders that were given the $2, so the refund would have been the smarter route anyway.

I was unaware that the Steelbook and not the game was the main draw for some of our customers.  We've learned a lot from this incident and will handle things differently in the future.  There was no malicious intent on our behalf.

I've answered all customer emails and responded to all Paypal disputes.  I will continue to monitor these closely.

Thanks

Hey guys, haven't posted here in a while but I wanted to address this situation:

The Metal Gear games (factory sealed, NTSC) were purchased through Konami the week prior, while the Steelbooks were purchased from one of our UK suppliers last year.  These Steelbooks were distributed with pre-orders in the UK, and they all came sealed from our supplier.

I was at a charity event last Friday morning when this deal started hitting the major deal sites around 9am.  I try to stay around my computer when I know we're running a good deal, but I couldn't break the commitment.  We were selling the Metal Gear game and the Steelbook for $9.49.  I checked my phone at noon during lunch and noticed we had already received hundreds of orders.  At this time I changed the listing on our site so it would be just the game for $8.99, in fear that we didn't have enough Steelbooks to fulfill all of the orders.

While fulfilling the orders I noticed that we didn't have enough Steelbooks for everyone that had ordered them.  We shipped these orders out chronologically, so the first few hundred people received Steelbooks with their orders.

If I did anything wrong here, it was underestimating the amount of desire that some customers had for the Steelbook.  We had sold these Steelbooks online for months with very few orders, so we basically gave them away for free with the games.  We charged customers only an extra $0.50 to cover half of the additional $1 in shipping costs we incurred from shipping the game and Steelbook together.

My initial idea was to include a dollar with each order that was missing the Steelbook to make up for the omission.  I decided to go with $2 though, even though we would be losing money on each order, as an act of good faith and to prevent public outbursts that might affect our image within online communities.  I figured $7.50 shipped would be a good deal for this game, and while people might be a little disappointed they didn't get the Steelbook, they would still be satisfied with the price they paid for the game.

We have heard from 5-10 people so far that are very unhappy with the fact that they didn't receive the Steelbook with their order.  If you haven't yet contacted us, feel free to send me a PM or send an email to help@gamedealdaily.com and we will accept your return for a full refund.  Please give us a chance to resolve your problem before opening a Paypal dispute.  It was never my intention to anger anyone, and I promise to be more aggressive in capping future deals to prevent any more of these situations.

If you have any more questions about this deal or our site in general, please shoot me a PM.  I will also keep an eye on this thread.

Thanks
