#14149745 Resident Evil 2 $39.99/$31.99 GCU Bestbuy.com PS4, Xbone

Posted by V878 on 31 March 2019 - 10:15 PM

If you think this game is a mere reskin, you obviously know nothing about it lol.

Yeah that original post may be a joke, but for those that don't know, this is a complete remake of RE2. Not a remaster, it's a remake. The graphics are entirely in line with one would expect from a 2019 game. And the gameplay absolutely holds up. I'm usually not a fan of horror games, but they nail the atmosphere so well in this game IMO.

#13880901 Everybody's Golf [PS4] - $14.99 Used at Redbox

Was this game decent?

I've heard pretty good things about the game on other forums. Core mechanics of playing golf are pretty solid and it sounds like a pretty fun game to pick and play casually. Plus there's a good amount of customization for your character if that interests you. Main complaint I've heard is it's too grindy to unlock new courses and such. I'll probably pick it up at some point because I've been looking for a new golf game to play.

OK: Horizon Zero Dawn or new Hitman game?

I haven't liked Far Cry since part 3.

EDIT: I feel like I might need a change of pace game in between all the FF12 I'm playing.

Horizon shares similarities with Far Cry 3 and 4, but not liking Far Cry doesn't really mean you won't like Horizon. For one thing, Horizon doesn't have the activity overload problem that Far Cry and Ubisoft open world games have. There are side quests and activities scattered across the map in Horizon, but none really overstay their welcome (the way climbing 20-30 towers just to uncover the entire map in Far Cry might). While both series love their bows, Horizon's enemy variety makes that game's combat more interesting to me. Every enemy has their own strengths and weaknesses, and it can be a lot of fun to figure those out and take advantage of them.

The last thing I'd say in Horizon's favor is the writing is fantastic, and I cared far more about the story and characters in it than I have in any Far Cry game. Horizon and Nier Automata have set the bar high for writing in games this year.

The Target PSN cards say Email delivery, but they mailed physical cards to me. Something to keep in mind if you're going to be out of town or away from home for any reason.

Also remember to cancel your membership before the 3 month trial expires.

#13729332 Anti-Deal: Amazon Prime no longer applies to toys to life and CEs

Posted by V878 on 02 June 2017 - 04:35 AM

Major bummer.  Now the hard to get stuff will be even harder to get from BB.  Also, what if BB now rethinks GCU?  I know it existed before prime discounts, but what motivation will BB have to keep it intact?  Aside from keeping loyal customers... but that only lasts for so long these days it seems.

GCU very well may change, but I feel there's a lot more motivation for Best Buy to keep this program the way it is than for Amazon to match them. Amazon Prime is already a juggernaut and will continue to rake in subscribers whether they continue this game discount program or not. The game discount is a small part of Prime when you have their Prime Instant Video, Prime reading, and of course the shipping, and I can't imagine discounting games has that much impact on them losing subscribers.

GCU on the other hand lives off that 20% discount. Less people are going to re-up after 2 years if the discount becomes worse. If they make it worse to match what Prime is now, sure some people will still take it for $30 (especially those without Prime). But for those that have both, it would make GCU essentially pointless. And given how good GCU has been up to this point, IMO it's been well worth $30/2 year regardless of having a Prime subscription.

kumail nanjiani voices a character in it, that's enough for a hard pass from me

everything else about that shitshow is just icing

The guy from Silicon Valley? Dude is hilarious. Didn't know he was in this.

Think you may have just helped sell a copy of this game. Thanks man!

#13659915 Doom PS4/XB1 $19.99 ($15.99 with GCU) at Best Buy

Posted by V878 on 13 March 2017 - 03:52 AM

My backlog actually makes me sick and is standing about 50 games strong right now.....but I think I can swing $16 over to BB to try this game ;)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. This is a game that you can get off the backlog pretty quickly. I was playing a couple hours after work for a week and then played a few more hours on a Saturday and wound up finishing it. Definitely well worth it at this price.

And as far as I'm aware, all the DLC is for multiplayer. I get the feeling id software was a bit blindsided by just how well the campaign was received (and conversely, how quickly the MP seems to be forgotten) that in retrospect it feels a bit of a missed opportunity that none of the post-release content went towards adding some more single player goodness. Unless they're saving all their current ideas for the sequel, which I'm totally on board with if that's the case.

So Guitar Hero Live is part of this but Rock Band 4 isn't? That's disappointing.

Solid deal. Maybe it'll be a few bucks cheaper than that GCU price for BF but I'd be surprised if it's much lower than that.

On a more serious note...anyone know what shipping carrier BEST DEALS EVA uses? My OoT apparently shipped but has no tracking info yet...

Mine came through UPS. Also, my order shipped email didn't provide any tracking link, but when I went to my order page, it had a tracking number there.

EDIT:

Let me know if that game's still for you, after tossing the controller 100 times. ;)

I guess it'll remind me of the good old days of childhood with SNES games were I'd run out of lives and I'd have to rage quit. Good old nostalgia.

Whoa. I didn't even know 3ds had bootleg games available. Now how do I make sure the used "cart only" games (no box manuals etc) I bought from 3rd party amazon sellers is genuine or not?

They're talking about a DS game actually. I'm not really aware of bootleg 3DS games that actually work.

Wow an actual deal on Bioware points. Sure it could be better, but considering how EA/Bioware can't be bothered with putting those on sale, I guess $5 off is better than nothing. Thanks Tony for listening.

#11404307 NBA Live 14 $39.99/$31.99 with GCU

Posted by V878 on 31 December 2013 - 11:20 PM

It's fine to have faith that EA will fix some issues in patches in the future, but I just don't see much point in giving them any money for this product right now in it's current state. If they somehow manage to make this a better game over the next few months, then I would consider re-evaluating whether it's worth buying at that time (odds are it'll probably be even cheaper at that point). But right now, when EA hasn't been able to put out a decent NBA game since 2009, I'm definitely not inclined to give them any of my money for Live. Just my 2 cents of course.
