#12418390 New Nintendo 3DS Bundles up for Preorder at Gamestop, Best Buy, Target! (...

Posted by jholden3249 on 16 January 2015 - 11:13 PM

Im kinda new to this 3ds stuff but are there any must own games? Im thinking Snake Eater 3ds and RE:Revelations. I'll probably pick up smash bros as well. I don't really have time for RPG's though.

Fire Emblem Awakening. It's not JRPG, it's strategy, but when I tell you it's the best game on the 3DS, it's because it is. 92 Metacritic from both reviewers and critics alike. Seriously, you really have to get this game if you own a 3DS. And you can save mid-battle so no need to sink hours in waiting to get out of a dungeon like a JRPG.

Also, Zelda Link Between Worlds. Only 3DS game that is as good as Fire Emblem.

And I'd grab these as well...
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Kid Icarus Uprising
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Zelda Ocarina of Time
Mario Golf World Tour (trust me on this one)
Smash Bros
Mario Kart 7
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
StarFox64 3D
Street Fighter 4 3D Edition

And on the eShop I'd scoop some of these...
Shovel Knight
Gunman Clive
Shantae Pirates Curse
Art of Balance Touch
Fractured Soul

And if you do decide to try some RPG's, get these...
Mario &Luigi Dream Team
Persona Q
Tales of the Abyss
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance
Pokemon X/Y
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby

And I'd go ahead and pre order these...
Zelda Majora's Mask
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Code Name STEAM (same devs who made Fire Emblem)
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (this is one RPG you need to play, no matter what)

Dat Monster Hunter 3DS bundle. So sexy. And so pre ordered!

Monster Hunter is such a great game. People just don't know what they're missing, or think they know but they really don't.

#11953827 Best Buy Black Friday in July, Wii U for $260

Posted by jholden3249 on 24 July 2014 - 11:54 PM

Ugh I have a movers' coupon and sort of want a wii U. Do you think that price is good enough with movers' coupon or should I wait for Black Friday? I can wait if it is a good deal and especially with school around the corner... just kind of want opinions about this...

Well, you can buy refurb from Nintendo for $200 right now, which is a good deal, but I gotta be honest here, you're probably not gonna see a better deal for a Wii U this holiday season. People always think the deals are gonna be better than they are. The last two years running have been straight garbage for gaming deals. So, personally, I'd either buy refurb (which still gets Deluxe Digital Promotion) or buy this. Actually I'd buy this because it comes with NSMBU and NSLU, which would cost you the extra $60 anyways after refurb, only this way you're buying brand new.

That's just my two cents though.

#11860303 64gb Vita Memory Card $82.59 (about $85 shipped) from superufo.com

Posted by jholden3249 on 21 June 2014 - 09:26 PM

That's the way to do it. $104.99. Hopefully I'll never need another Vita memory card again :/

Don't worry, you probably won't considering Sony's not making any games for it atm ;)

Seriously though, I bought a 32gb and was intending to buy a 64, but with the lineup thinning out and Sony announcing a drop of support, maybe my 32gb will last after all. I'ma hold off for now.

ive never owned a wii u (will have one by tommorow) and i was under the assumption that there was a usb port or two in the system. if so couldnt they just make a gamecube controller which uses usb and not need the adaptor ?

Sure they could. Or, ya know, they could just make an adapter so that your existing Gamecube controllers will work without having to buy a new one, and you don't get stuck with a GC controller that only works on Wii U.

#11726541 Free Wii U Game Download with Purchase of Mario Kart 8!

Posted by jholden3249 on 30 April 2014 - 11:23 PM

Thanks op. I have a pre-order in with gamestop that I was going to cancel, but two 1st party games for $60 is a pretty good deal.

Change your pre order to Best Buy and get a free $10 gas card when you pick up the game. Also, if you have Gamer's Club Unlocked, that's 20% off as well.

20% off ($47.99) + $10 gas card + free game DL = $37.99 for Mario Kart 8 and [Pikmin 3, NSMBU, Windwaker HD, or Wii Party U]

Deal of the century.

#11669878 Call of Duty: Ghosts - Nintendo Wii U- $29.99 at Amazon

Posted by jholden3249 on 05 April 2014 - 08:09 PM

This came out on wii u???

This and quite a few others actually. Wii U got a nice little chunk of multiplats last year- none of them sold too well so I don't expect the support to continue (except for select games that will obviously sell well like Rayman or Sonic Racing), but ya, Wii U has amassed a nice selection of multiplats to choose from. For a Nintendo console anyways...

Watch Dogs

Call of Duty Black Ops 2

Call of Duty Ghosts

Batman Arkham City

Batman Arkham Origins

Assassin's Creed 3

Assassin's Creed 4

Splinter Cell Blacklist

Rayman Legends

Resident Evil Revelations HD

Deus Ex Human Revolution

Darksiders 2

Mass Effect 3

Injustice Gods Among Us

Sniper Elite v2

Need For Speed Most Wanted

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Sonic Racing Transformed

If I didn't own a Wii U already I'd be all over this. I gotta be honest here- after owning both a Wii U and PS4 since their respective launches, I can positively affirm that the Wii U is grossly underrated and the PS4 is grossly overrated. Still both great consoles, but the Wii U is better imo. Still, as a gamer I'd really recommend owning both- I mean, you're not gonna want to miss games from either console. But, I'm just saying if I HAD to choose, I could go Wii U only this gen and be perfectly satisfied.

Posted by jholden3249 on 30 March 2014 - 11:34 PM

It's only been out a few months though.  Wonderful 101 is like 20 bucks.  Zelda WW is 40.  Wii Fit U with meter and balance board is $54.

In general I agree though, Nintendo is trying their typical strategy of keeping prices high.  It doesn't seem to be working that well this time around with their low sales.

Eh, not true. Their games are selling mega copies. NSMBU over 4 million sold. Super Mario 3D World over 2 million sold. Zelda Windwaker HD, Wii Party U and New Super Luigi U over 1 million sold. All not counting digital, and on an install base of just 6 million so far. Nothing's changed. Their games will remain priced high because their games will continue to sell well for the next 5-10 years. Guarantee you by the time this gen is over, there's gonna be a long, long list of 1st party titles that sold multiple millions of copies. And some will hit 5-10 million sold by the end of this gen.

Nobody wants to hear that use tax argument. Every time a deal gets posted from a retailer which doesn't charge sales tax in most or all states, someone comes along preaching use tax. To me, and I'm sure most everyone else here, no sales tax means no tax. Someone says "use tax" to me and it goes in one ear and out the other. If others want to pay a use tax voluntarily then by all means, but please, stop preaching it to the rest of the world. You'd think these people were contracted by the IRS or something...

#11632937 Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Wii U $19.99 @ Gamestop

Posted by jholden3249 on 22 March 2014 - 05:47 PM

Deep, varied & monster hunter dont belong in the same sentence. It's about as tepid & repetitive as it comes.  Worth $20 though.

That's a lie. Monster Hunter is quite possibly the deepest game ever made. People talk about Dark Souls... pfft. Monster Hunter is just as complex, if not even more so.

With a hundred monsters to hunt and over 300 different quests, and different combinations of monsters at the same time, in different environments (desert, tundra, water, etc), arena quests and the like, it only gets repetitive if you don't know like to use your brain or have attention deficit disorder, like people who can't watch The Lord of the Rings because they say it's "too boring".  With Monster Hunter, every hunt is different. Every one. You'll never experience two hunts the exact same way. Obviously, if the whole game was just repetition, people wouldn't get hooked on it like crack and put in over 1000 hours of play time.

#11632882 Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Wii U $19.99 @ Gamestop

Posted by jholden3249 on 22 March 2014 - 05:28 PM

Is this actually a good game?

It's the BEST game. Seriously. Anyone with a Wii U needs to own this game. I'm 600+ hours in, and I still play it from time to time. This game is a reason to buy a Wii U, just for this one game alone (not that games like DKC Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3 or Mario 3D World aren't also reasons).

One of the deepest games I've ever played. It's RPG, but it's real time skill-based combat as well. Hunting monsters in this game never gets old. The online is top notch (full voice chat, digital keyboard on gamepad for chat and USB keyboard support, with stable lobbies and there's always plenty of people hunting 24/7), and the game can be played solo or with others. You'll craft your own weapons and armor from the monsters you've slain, and naturally progress to more powerful monsters, which yield more powerful weapons and armor. There's extensive combinations of items, and you'll want to master each and every one. Being well equipped for the right hunt can mean the difference between failure or success.

Posted by jholden3249 on 21 March 2014 - 06:21 AM

I noticed that deals tab, but couldn't tell what their normal price was.

If I buy these and my WiiU breaks, will I be able to get them on a new WiiU or would they be lost forever like games bought on the Wii?

Actually, now that Nintendo has implemented Nintendo Network ID's (NNID), your game purchases are no longer tied to the hardware. They're tied to the NNID, and THAT is tied to the hardware. The difference is, if your console breaks and you don't want to send it in, I believe you can now call Nintendo, they can deactivate your NNID on the old console, allowing you to set up the NNID on the new console. After you've done that, just go to the eShop and all your previous purchases are in the "My downloads" tab. You can re-download any of them free of charge.

While it's a bit more of a pain than say, net-tied accounts, it's not NEARLY the dilemna most gamers will tell you it is. Furthermore, Nintendo (unlike Sony and MS) allow transfers of all your games to their new consoles when they release (a new trend set in 2012 with Wii>Wii U and 3DS>3DS XL transfers). And since Nintendo releases a new home console and handheld every six years, you'll end up transferring the games over to the next new console LONG before your current Wii U breaks. After all, I've still got SNES and N64 systems that fire up like they were bought yesterday. I guarantee you that Wii U is built to last. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it never broke your entire life...

#11613495 Bayonetta 2 (Wii U) $59.99 + $10 Gift Card @NEWEGG [Pre Order]

Posted by jholden3249 on 15 March 2014 - 09:14 PM

Bayonetta 2 for Hardcore gamers on the Wii U... I'll wait for the hopefully ps3/ps4 edition.

Let me know how that works out for you...

And yes, there are core gamers on the Wii U. Hardcore games involve more than just realism and violence. DKC Tropical Freeze and Wonderful 101 are prime examples of that. In fact, speed running DKC is an artform that very few possess the skill to achieve. I invite you to come visit the OTHER side of gaming. The side that doesn't get popularized in every form of media. You can still play your realistic games too. It doesn't have to be one or the other.
