#14368609 Xbox Game Pass Ultimate $1 only !

Is that...sarcasm? They've been pretty bad at consumer-focused stuff for a while now, IMO. Their Elite Controllers are super expensive and more failure-prone than the stock ones that cost one-third of the price. Their Surfaces have barely improved in the last 5 years, yet continue to go up in price. They keep delayed games and telling everyone to get excited for them later. Other than the Series X hardware itself and the GPU conversion, I'm not sure what good stuff they've done for consumers. I won't even get started on Mixer...

I ordered a couple retro games (the Mario Party games) and paid for the fastest shipping option on 12/20. It’s now technically 12/23 and the order page has not changed (still processing). What was the point of paying extra again?

I paid $17 for overnight shipping on the NES Switch JoyCons from Nintendo last Thursday. They just showed up today...not sure what the heck what the point of paying extra even is. I'm just glad they made it before Christmas, but they were supposed to be there Friday.

Free 64gb sd with Switch for stock $299 price? Might have to finally get a switch

What's so special about these "for Nintendo Switch" microSD cards? They call that one an $80 value, but it's on sale for $40 right now, and there's a Samsung with the same speed ratings for $25. Doesn't seem like a great incentive to buy a Switch; weren't they giving away a free game with it a few weeks back?

Battlefront 2 already discounted? This will be a $5 Games with Gold game in no time on X1 by the end of the year

Game is cancer. EA's already talking about reinserting the pay-to-win. Don't give them your money.

Going through the staples ad now.

Any opinions on acer laptops/pc? Looks like I need Win10 for some hardware and software (elgato).

It depends on what you're trying to buy. They're kind of like cockroach laptops on the budget side. They'll last forever--you can't really kill them--but you'll really wish they'd die before just replacing them after 5 years. My brother-in-law had one, and it was a constant "I want an ew laptop, this one sucks, but it isn't broken," then it broke, he took his sister's when she got a new one, and it went on for another couple of years, I think. They're sturdy, but unspectacular.

Budget and functionality needs drive what you're in the market for.

As someone who actually owns the game, I can tell you it's a nonissue. Microtransactions only suck when they halt progress in a game or provide a real advantage against other players. Many other people (professional reviewers included) have come out to say that they never once felt the need to buy them to progress. Do you wanna pay $80 for new video games and have studios downsized from hundreds of 50k+ salaried employes to a small handful? No? Get used to microtransactions then.

We're STILL using this "they can't afford to make the games" nonsense, saying it's going to make the game $80, in a thread where the game is on-sale for $25 less than 2 months after release? They're already pushing the $30 Season Pass on top of the $60 base game. They clearly weren't struggling with money when they sold the first game for $60. They must have made pretty good money on that economic model, if they decided to make a follow-up.

I find this argument hilarious--"do you want it to cost $80?" as it's $25-30 all over the place. But, to answer your questions, yes, I would ABSOLUTELY rather a game cost $80 upfront and be completed at launch, if the alternative is $60, plus $30 in DLC, plus a system that allows you to purchase progression. I would take that 100/100 times.

I guess you have to stand up for your principles but I think it's kind of silly to miss out on a game you were really looking forward to simply because other people can buy loot boxes which will have no impact on your experience with the game. Just give in, get it for 25 bucks and have some fun building your orc army.

Funny you start with "I guess you have to," then shift to "do what I say, not what your principles do." I'm not dying to support this industry's greediest scumbags. Like I said, I MIGHT get it, but probably not. Yeah, it doesn't hurt my gameplay...until it does. They're apparently adding an "Online Pit Fight" mode that lets you either put your Orcs against another person's or fight someone's Orcs. In that case, the ability to pay for faster progression affects balance, as it does in the Siege modes. In general though, I'm not loving the thought of giving WB more money to support development of WORSE systems, just because this one isn't "that bad." Take a look at what a pay-to-win grind VC is in NBA 2K these days. People shouldn't have waited until it got this bad before they boycotted that game.

Played Shadow of War for 60 hours. Never bought anything and didn't use the stuff from the preorder code. Had a fucking blast. Even better than the original (which was one of my favorite games on this generation).

My issue is not with whether or not I can get through without a purchase. I know I can. Like I said, it's now just an act of principle. I went and got every Achievement in the base Mordor game on XB1, then got the Platinum Trophy and all DLC Trophies on the PS$ GotY release when I got my PS4 Pro. I loved the game and considered it the only new game of 2017 I actually wanted. However, I absolutely abhor this lootbox trend in gaming, and I'm willing to skip a game over it to punish the publish for the decision.

I'm certain that would have a blast with the game, and end up an overpowered monster like the first one because I spent so much time just freely roaming and savaging enemies. I'm just pissed WB Games had to go and soil its new IP with this EA-like crap. I just hope we get a Dying Lightsequel, and that it's free of this feces.

GameStop's actually WINNING on price on some stuff? $25 Shadow of War is a winner, though maybe that's related to their exclusive Mithril Edition partnership? Still, WB Games' lootcrates and DLC nonsense mean I'm not volunteering my money for a new copy. If they put the used version at a similar price, MAYBE I'll consider it, but this year has absolutely fatigued me on the microtransaction trend in games. At this point, I just want to throw up a middle finger and skip everything that brings it to the table.

Could I build at at microcenter for that much anytime or just bf prices? There is one kinda close to me to.

Well, the big question is: MUST you have THOSE parts? Things like the drives and PSU likely aren't of great quality, vs. what a self-built machine would have. The RAM might be low-clocked stuff that doesn't have performance overhead like a higher-end kit you buy yourself. The peripherals, as stated, look like junk. You might not like the aesthetics of the case, if you care.

mdull priced things out pretty well for a comparable build, but those aren't must-have requirements, IMO. I'm going to just say "trust me" here because the alternative is a LEEEENGTHY post defending parts decisions. Don't want to bore/scare the audience around us, so I'm trying to keep if brief. If you have additional questions on my choices, I can respond or do PMs to avoid wasted words.

Micro Center will usually let you put that combo bundle discount on an open box board. This is a big deal because you can find pristine returns at discounted prices and get the same discount. This will reflect that.

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600, $170

Mobo: ASRock B350 Pro4, $42 (you can actually get it for $24, if you are fine not having the backplate on the board)

RAM: $175 is what I'd expect, as prices are through the roof these days

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB, on-sale for $90, luckily

Now, it's time to leave Micro Center. Most prices aren't great beyond the core components at Micro Center.

PSU: Seasonic 620W, $40 ($60, $20 mail-in rebate)

HDD: $65 @Amazon

GTX 1080: $500 @Amazon (MC open box was a dud, bottoming out at $494).

This is what I did on PC Part Picker, for reference (unlinked prices are the ones I found at Micro Center): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/G4FmYr

That's $1120. You still need to get Windows, which you might be able to get from the Trading forum here for a great price (if still available). Otherwise, take the $80 expectation on W10 Home from mdull. That leaves you to fill out your peripherals and optional optical drive for $100. Basically, you might save $100 with some great luck and bargain shopping, vs. the pre-built. However, what this build gives you is better components, be it the better cooling on the GPU, the faster drives, the flexibility of design preferences on the case and peripherals, or the PSU that will be usable for future builds because it's got overhead on power and is a high-quality brand, not OEM junk.

Depending on preference on the unfilled slots (high-end cases and peripherals), you might end up over $1,300 a bit. Still, I think that mouse and keyboard deserve replacing from the pre-built myself, meaning that $1,300 would go up as well, if you don't like the ones you get there.

I think it would be tough to build this computer at microcenter for that price.  Rough price list:

CPU (i7 7700) - $250 (but you'll want to spend the $10 extra to get the 7700K)

CPU Cooler - $30 or so (the 7700 might come with a CPU cooler, but I don't believe that the 7700K does)

Motherboard - $70 (bundle with the CPU to save $30, the asus board seems good for $100)

RAM - $150

Video Card - $500 or so, maybe you could find an open box or on sale in store

Case - $50 - $100 depending on preference,

240 GB SSD - $80

2 TB HD - $50 - $70

Windows - $110 at microcenter, but you can find legit copies at various stores for $85

Keyboard and mouse - $30 or so, depending on preference

Power Supply - $50 - $70

Now, keep in mind, if you deal hunt and watch for parts you can probably shave some of this off, but that takes time and effort.  Taking the lowest numbers on that list is about $1345.

Quoted because addressing things from this above.

I'm looking at the ibuypower desktop from Best Buy with a gtx 1080 for $1300
https://www.bestbuy....p?skuId=5600310
Is that a good deal? $1300 Is the black Friday price.

That's pretty good. If you went and tried to build it yourself (started making a comparable build on PC Part Picker), you're probably going to end up around $1,400-1,500. However, the mouse and keyboard in that thing look awful, and like you'd be well-served to buy better ones. Plus, if you had a Micro Center near you (I do), parts would be cheaper. In a perfect world, you can probably build that PC for $1,200-1,300 and have better parts like better GPU cooling and a better PSU and drives.

So now i'm curious, Target has $200 GC with the purchase and activation of a Iphone, but BB has Save $200, i'm guessing that the latter would be the best bet, since it would lower the monthly payment of the phone, right?

That, and it's $200 in cash you get to keep for spending anywhere, rather than having to spend $200 at Target.

#13871341 Best Buy Black Friday 2017

Posted by Lil Frier on 08 November 2017 - 07:29 AM

Some decent prices, but Forza Horizon 3 is $15 at Target, vs. $25 at Best Buy, which is lame. Also, LOL that Black Ops 3 is $10 more than Infinite Warafe, as if I needed a reminder of just how dead Infinity Ward is to me.  G900 at $75 seems like a MUCH better deal than the G903 at $120, and if you want wired, the G502 at $30 for the non-RGB ($50 for RGB) seems like a great offering.

$350 on the Oculus Rift is mighty tempting as well, though I am still waiting to see if Microsoft can give me an excuse (SteamVR support) to get one of the WMR headsets that don't require external sensors instead. I also probably need to start looking into a good keyboard to replace my Steelseries Apex, but I've yet to see anything all that appealing.

Lastly, LOL at all of the complaints about how games are so expensive to develop and publishers crying poor with their DLC and microtransactions. You're putting games at 40-50% off a couple of months after launch, guy. I'm not buying you're going broke. Shadow of War needs microtransactions, but it's $30? Riiiiiiight.

#13858324 Target Cartwheel Deals 10/22-10/28

Posted by Lil Frier on 23 October 2017 - 01:53 AM

I'm honestly not mad at all. I just don't think paying $30 for coupons is a good deal. They don't even give you magazines anymore, like they used to. It may shock people to know that I used to have GCU, but I never bought enough games to make it worth my while, and my Best Buy always had a crappy selection of games. At least Target doesn't charge you to be disappointed.

Yeah, but you have to buy three $60 games before you start reaping the benefits of paying the $35. It's only after you have bought those three games, that you actually start saving money from the 20% off. Also, Best Buy doesn't allow you to use GCU on Black Friday. Where Cartwheel has had deals every year on Black Friday weekend.

Fine, I'll join this Internet fight. GCU is $30, not $35. $3 saved on a $60 game at Target with Red Card. $12 off with GCU. $9 off per-game more at Best Buy on new games. 4 new game purchases in 2 years to beat Red Card. That's before you consider things like the +10% credit boost with GCU, the 10% off used games, the B2G1 used coupon, the Best Buy rewards points, The 10% rewards certs on big-name pre-orders at Best Buy, and what seems like an overall superior offering of sales at Best Buy in a given week.

As to why someone said "why not both?" You don't need to open a line of credit to use GCU. You only have to be 13 to get GCU, rather than needing to be an adult to get the credit card. That's not a "me" problem, but something to be considered as a whole. I don't use Red Card because Target's deals are rarely better than BB's, and I don't see the value in opening a credit card with them to save $10/year or something.
