They're blaming COVID but other personal electronics retailers have made a killing during COVID. Demand for home office equipment, printers, ink, computers, etc have exploded with so many people working from home. Home entertainment has also exploded.

No one likes the stock here?
Their business is not worth what it is trading for. They have made some nice moves (Chewy Guy, Reggie, deal with MS, etc.) but they still have long-term business problems. Both Microsoft and Sony released disc-less consoles. Digital, unfortunately, is the future for the majority of gamers. IDK how much they will get from the MS deal, but I'd imagine it doesn't even come close to their margins on used games. That is a big problem for Gamestop that they have not been able to overcome. This doesn't even get into their QC, customer support, and website issues (among others)
So as an actual investment and not some sToNkS roulette spin, no, I do not like the stock

When cashiers ask if I want extended warranties, I like to turn it around and ask, “would you buy it?”. It likely generates an “oh sh*t” moment for them as they decide how much their word is worth. I know it’s part of their job but employers can’t require them to lie.
Most of them would just say "of course." Just say no when they ask

For sure, I didn't mean to imply that you were criticizing others parenting, I was just thinking it through.
The switch is really the exception for your poing about GPG, though. Most every other modern system has their games on larger optical media that would be destroyed if any creature bit down on it.
Yes, but I was only talking about Switch games. Regardless, if the GPG were good for the customer, GS wouldn't be pushing them so hard

Yeah buying game warranties just plays on the fear of gift givers that don’t know any better. I know some people here buy it to stay in good graces with staff but I don’t.
I'll do the survey but I'm not throwing money away on a GPG. I especially hate how some employees will sneak it on. Always have to watch that card reader screen

Spending the time to teach your kids to treat property with respect and finding the right discpline balance takes time and energy.
It's easy to imagine that the target market for GPG is parents of ill behaved brats who just want to use video games as a way of escaping those kids for a little while, but it could also be parents too busy with work or other responsibilities to really supervise their kids.
Neither is a great story, but it seems to be one of their few smart business moves.
I didn't criticize anyone's parenting. I criticized their decision to pay for something that will likely never be used regardless of how well-behaved or supervised their child is. GPG doesn't cover lost games and that is the more likely outcome for a small cartridge as they can sustain significant damage and still work (as per my anecdotal example)

Depends on how much higher up it goes.... looks like going past $350 today easily!
Also threw a few k at BB + AMC.... I mean, why not at this point!
Because back last year in Feb... COVID shut downs were going to start and having been a resident of Florida and their hurricane seasons.. know what happens when people are locked in their houses for even a few days. (sex and video games!) So threw some money at some of those industries.
No, it's well played. Period. Congrats

Yeah I ordered Fight Night Champion on PS3 and I'm hoping for the same unicorn sighting. Last time I bought it in the store (years ago) the underside of disk looked like it had been used in a game of solar-frisbee.
I ordered 5 PS3 games and all came complete but 1. There's hope

How do you even scratch a disc like this.
Doubting I'll even be able to trade it in.
Do they do refurb fees on this sort of thing?
They will if they notice it. It's probably their god-awful refurb machines that did it. That game specifically I've seen this problem with lately. If you can return it, I'd just do that.

"Thank you for continuing to be a loyal Best Buy customer!"
Yeah, we wont be. When i had GCU, I was at Best Buy all the time. I'd buy other electronics there too. I go there like 2 or 3 times a year now.
