#14158132 Walmart YMMV In Store Clearance Thread I (READ THE FAQs)

Posted by SideQuestsSuck on 23 April 2019 - 10:22 PM

I have a ton of GameStop trade credit I will either wait for the mini switch or a Xbox one x deal like the ones they have at the Microsoft store to use it . I don't think GameStop sells gift cards for the Microsoft brick and mortar stores I can buy with trade credit so I will continue to wait

Yeah, you apparently can't get any gift cards at other retailers that will be accepted at Microsoft brick and mortar stores. The only place you can get them is....at Microsoft brick and mortar stores, which defeats the purpose- unless you're getting them as a gift for someone else to use there. You can use the MS/Xbox cards sold from other retailers on the MS Store online, but the MS brick and mortar stores often offer deals that are not offered on the online MS Store. Makes buying from MS retail stores a pain, IMO. A shame, cause they offer the best extended warranties on consoles...up to 2 exchanges over a multi-year period (granted, mostly for refurbished consoles), plus controller exchanges also.

The only reason I would consider getting an S or X right now is if I was confident I was getting an X2 at launch and places like Gamestop were offering equal or better TIV for what I paid.

So if this is $175 and TIV towards an X2 is $175, I'd think of it as a "prepayment" towards the X2 if I wss getting it.

Yes, exactly. I believe the MS Retail Stores have been offering $200 in TIV for the One X, but not sure if that # will hold by the time the X2 rolls around. I still think we may see some really good One X deals right before E3, while MS can still try to convince the world not to wait for next-gen.

Finally seemed to have some luck at two different Walmarts. The less exciting one had Xenoblade Chronicles X for $9. But the other had bins! Some were marked absurdly high but walked away with this with FF being $1, Professor Layton $7, and Locoroco 2 $5.

Aaah, bins! I miss them. A WM not far from me used to have bins all the time with marked-down games, but the bins are only filled with movies these days.

Walmart does the community a wonderful service by employing tens of thousands of incompetents within the city.

One of the best lines I've seen here....LOL. Nothing, I'm still smiling... :D

My friendly, nearby Walmart showed "in stock" for $199 Xbox One S Battlefield V bundle today. Even an employee told me their system showed it as in stock. Of course...nowhere to be seen, as usual.

I feel a bit like Inigo Montoya..."you keep using that word 'in-stock'...I don't think it means what you think it means".

Available bundles at $399 are also Metro Exodus and Division II. Among the free physical games you can choose from to add to your bundle at MS Stores: Sekiro, DMC 5, BF V, RDR2, KH 3. I might suggest not getting the Metro bundle, since that game is having massive issues on the One X with crashing and freezing, at least according to several Reddit threads and gamer tweets.

#14146486 Sekiro Collectors Edition back up for pre-order at Gamestop

Posted by SideQuestsSuck on 23 March 2019 - 07:31 PM

When it comes to collectors edition buy what you love.  Times are a lot different now.  during the 8 bit ,16 bit  and some of the 32 bit era technology wasn't that advanced,so when the cart era was ending there was an OMG what am I going to do. get it because it may be rare thought process,   This bled over into the collector edition market.

Now with technology ahead of the curve reprints \ remasters are a approval away.   Look at games like Xenogears, suikoden 2 ,secret of mama. If the collector edition content is not really special people are like meh. Toss in the fact that companies have been shoveling out BS collector \ limited editions just to squeeze out an extra buck on the hype.

New sealed is always special but something is only worth what someone is willing to pay.  Taking a knife to a collector edition box  is hard,  I know because I have quite a few.  Like the gears of war 3 360 a still sealed  very beautiful console I think the original retail was 400 I paid 200.  i'd be lucky to get 300.  A guy in my area has been trying to sell his fall out pip boy.  New sealed. he went from asking for 200 to dropping the price down to 60.  So buy for the Love.  Unless they state only 10 are made.

On Sekiro

I have been wondering as to why this was a gamestop exclusive?  IMO this is one of the few collectors editions that had it all.

A sweet price point

a great presentation  steel book , statue and a possible letter opener.

Congrats to those who picked one up.  I am sorry I missed this one.

Very well said. I like to think of CE's as an "experience", so open it up and enjoy the experience...especially if you're a big fan of the dev/genre. This is just me, but seeing the thing possibly increase in value over the years likely doesn't equal the enjoyment of opening it up for yourself. I do know there are some who just hoard sealed CE's and stash them away in the nether regions of their closet (someone in this very thread said he had over 100 CE's), but it just depends on what is most important to you...a CE as a commodity or as something to be enjoyed now.

Are any of you gonna leave your CE unopened for years, to increase in value? I don't think the Bloodborne CE has risen in value but I wonder what the case will be with Sekiro. As for me, I will likely open it up as soon as I get it.

I stopped doing store pickup on potentially hard to obtain CEs both because certain local stores would make "errors" and not hold the CEs for me and more importantly, because I have found the packing for shipment is often better when mailed directly than when shipped to a store where the games are often bundled in big shipping boxes full of items that can damage CEs.

Agreed. Also, and I don't mean to rip anyone here who has worked at GS, but I wouldn't trust them with my CE. Suddenly, mysteriously, it's "sorry, the letter opener didn't come with it for some reason". I am just not trusting in general when it comes to the in-store handling of this CE edition stuff.

Welp, I paid for Express 2-day shipping (basically because it was the only option available in October) and just received my shipping confirmation.. Won't arrive until Monday, 25th. :(

Hoping that estimate is wrong, otherwise I guess I have to shut myself off from YouTube and other websites to not get spoiled.

That kinda sucks...especially since it looks like it is shipping today for some people who did free shipping. You may want to contact GS for a shipping refund.

Yeah my order for shipping says "Delivers 2-4 business days after processing/release date" and I think it said the 26th when I completed my order.

Yikes. Oh well...looks like it's a weekend of backlog gaming 4 me!

#14144003 The Half Price Books Thread

Posted by SideQuestsSuck on 18 March 2019 - 03:24 AM

Price absolutely varies by store.  Generally HPB tends to price their stuff based on Amazon pricing from what I've seen.  If the person doing the pricing doesn't know video games and the only seller for something on Amazon has it way over-priced as can happen, you wind up with something priced waaaay out of wack.

I can always tell the stores where the person doing the pricing actually knows games because they'll usually be pretty in line with pricing.

That said, some stores definitely seem to inflate the pricing on some things to make sure that the 50% off coupons don't really screw them over.

Yup, for sure. I saw "Last of Us Remastered" @ HPB this weekend for $19.99. Used copy, of course. This game has been $19.99 new  for almost two years at every retailer I have seen, online and in-store. It took nearly 30 minutes of negotiating for them to drop the price down to $9.99. I know it was just a $10 difference but it was the principle of the thing. None of their reasoning made any sense. Then, with 50% off for coupon Sunday, it was 5 bucks. Cool, but does every video game purchase @ HPB have to be like pulling teeth? It's not just that game. Went up and down the shelf and the prices are most definitely not half price. The prices are typically about 3-5 years out of date. In some cases, the prices were even HIGHER than current retail. $29.99 when the game has been $19.99 for 2-3 years...that kind of thing. I'm not talking about rare, out-of-print games. Just seems like no one bothers to update these video game prices from the day the games were first launched. This is pretty much the situation at every HPB location I have visited. Good that you have encountered some stores where the prices are more reasonable.

As far as 'do they hold games during coupon sale weeks', I have found that they do, at least in my own experience. YMMV, perhaps...may depend on your own store and who you deal with.

#14139588 Walmart YMMV In Store Clearance Thread I (READ THE FAQs)

Posted by SideQuestsSuck on 07 March 2019 - 05:08 AM

Last year I was able to buy 1 game at self checkout since it wasn't in a security case at another location. It's when I went back to a regular register with games in the cases that I had the problem of not being allowed to buy them. Normally my local Walmart stores don't check receipts if an item is in a bag but it seems to depend on the worker.

For whatever reason, I have never been able to buy a game at self-checkout. You ask them to get a game out of the glass case, they walk it up to Electronics and get you to pay for it, or leave it up at their check out area while you shop for more. That has just been my experience.

None of us here really had problems. The self-check person is really there to help assist, not monitor 24/7.

Worst case scenario is you show them the price on the app and they let you go.

When I attempted to buy a couple of 3 cent games last year, they made a big fuss before allowing me to...even after they acknowledged the price on the app. Their attitude was "this must be wrong". Again,as I said, I've never been able to pay for a game at self-checkout. They always ask me to pay at Electronics. And no, I don't think I look like a thief.  :)
