#14297042 TurboGrafx-16 Mini Retro Console (Amazon Exclusive : Pre-orders start July 15th)

Posted by eastx on 12 June 2020 - 05:25 AM

I never thought Altered Beast looked Arcade in quality.  And seeing it in motion sucked away any interest I had in the Genesis.  The TG16 had all these colorful games and when Bonk's Adventure came out I knew I had to own that system.  Of course as a "gamer" that had to play everything, eventually I owned both and had plenty of fun with both systems.

Altered Beast on the Sega Genesis looks worlds better than the PC Engine version, and it does look fairly close to the arcade version. It's not flawless, but it's certainly a solid arcade port by the standards of the time.

Have any of you ever bought one of these just because it's on sale? I've been waiting for a sale for the ones I really wanted but it's never happened. The Street Fighter one, however, is in stock and heavily discounted at the store, but I don't think I'd ever play it much.

That's why I bought Rampage and Asteroids - $156 and $75 each.

I also preordered the US model, mainly to support Konami releasing this type of product in the US. Looks-wise, it would be Japan all the way for me.

One of the few instances where the us console looks better than the rest of the world

Said no one ever. The Turbografx-16 is huge and fugly compared to the PC Engine.

You are better off buying a 3rd party Wii Classic Controller for $6-12 on eBay. It adds a Home button (which is so nice) and gives you extra buttons for playing other consoles' games with Hakchi.

#14085522 PSN Weekly Deals - 7/9: PS Retro Sale! $4 Arcade Archive games,...

Well, PS3 still has one thing that PS4 doesn't - free online multiplayer. Even with the current $40 for a year deal, I still don't want to pay for Plus. I can still join games on some of the more popular PS3 games without having to buy a membership which is great. But the downside is that some of the multiplayer game servers for PS3 titles will be shutting down in January 2019.

The other downside, besides living in the past and limiting yourself to multiplayer for games that everyone has moved on from, is that you miss out on the free games every month. That $40 sale price on Plus more than pays for itself.

#14058311 Playstation Classic Pre-order @BB, GS, Walmart, Amazon, & Target

I believe Sony didn't announce the full games list because they want to create additional news stories when they finally do announce the remaining titles (either all at once or in batches). It makes the Pre-order a little less compelling, but there will definitely be more coverage this way.

SSD in a Pro is pointless

Using an SSD still decreases load times, so by definition it can't be pointless.

Can you do us all one MASSIVE favor and do some testing on install/DL/load times on games with the different models? Curious to see if the CPU and SATA bumps make it any better.

That's too much to ask, but luckily someone else has already done the testing:

Eurogamer: Is it worth upgrading a PS4 Pro with SSD?

Picked up a PS4 Pro for $370 after tax with this coupon and Red Card. Wish the coupon had stacked with the wish list coupon, but I'm still happy to have saved $58 on the Pro.

#13003487 XBL Deals - 2015

I highly recommend Spectra.

It's a game you can play in small spurts and get quite enjoyment out of it. It reminds me a bit of F-Zero, but with a stellar soundtrack. If you ever played Super Hexagon on your phone and enjoyed the music, you'll enjoy this! Chipzel is the s***!

Counterpoint:

Spectra is one of the worst games I've played on Xbox One this year (and I've probably played 50 during this time). The other worsts being Infinity Runner, Toro, and Overruled.

The music is good, but that's literally all it has going for it. The lack of speed control, falling off the edge constantly, lack of multiplayer, and utter lack of variety in both visuals and gameplay are all lame. Just a really undercooked mobile port IMO.
