I had trouble buying stuff through the website recently.  Had a genius idea to try the app and it worked.  I recommend the app if you get desperate.

Some other suggestions here too!

Just pulled the trigger on the Atari VCS bundle at $99...probably a dumb buy but will make a great nostalgia gift and probably be pretty collectable down the road

Does this thing have games or how do you get games?

Worst case you can sell it for at least $100 or so if you keep it newish.

In for 10!

I suspect 99% of the people that buy new games just want a game that works with original box and working codes. "New" games with obvious wear and scratches shouldn't be sold as new, but metrics going to metric. I'd prefer a NEW, OPEN BOX, PRE-OWNED, REFURBISHED conditions.

People that want to keep items sealed on the shelf to "appreciate" really should be buying stuff in-person or on release date (ie - preorder) to not only get the "first print", but ensure it comes sealed.  :hot:

I think everybody is missing why this is awful.
If you're not subbed to Pro, you get dropped back down to Player tier meaning if you have a shitton of points banked like I do, you're basically forced to 1) remain subbed 2) buy shit from GameStop every 6 months or 3) dump all your points.
None of these are good, 6 months isn't a particularly long time.

6 months is even more retarded when you consider a good portion of the holiday shoppers literally only buy stuff around the holidays.

So instead of "I found your number in the system, would you like to upgrade to pro?" it's "Sorry, can't find your number in the system would like like to sign up? Just give me more of your personal info so we can take up more of your time!"

DOTD - 50% off batteries!  :fridge:

Actually, the only logical conclusion is they'll start selling pre-owned batteries. Time to stock up and wait for the TIV to spike!!!

What’s this different way you’re speaking of?

The super sekret method where you have multiple orders in different browsers logged in to various VPNs to spread out across the country and have the coupon applied to the cart for various gaming currencies then hit PLACE ORDER simultaneously....

Heh, this is why I save all my random $10-30 refund gift cards they send thru the mail for "flash sales" like the glitch. I didn't see any charges on those gift cards since.. I guess there wasn't enough left. (I don't keep a credit card on file either)

Got most of my pickup orders today without issues (mostly $1-$3 switch games or pokemon stuff for the kids but had a few in some more distant stores I'll get to this weekend hopefully), didn't do any digital or preorder stuff.  O:)

PUR gets a minimum $5 credit per month for at what, $10 or $15 up front? $5mo * 12 months = $60 over the course of the year or more if you double dip. Up front cost is less of it's on sale or if you value your $10 cert at the beginning of the year.

GameStop may be super annoying, but that sure doesn't add up to "worthless" by my math.

All true, but it also depends on how much you value your time. Driving 12x a year to a GS to use the $5 cert and/or spending time on the GS website to find something to use the $5 cert could be deemed "worthless" or "not worth it" to some folks. I doubt anyone that is willing to pay over MSRP for a new PS5 is going to spend any time even considering signing up for Pro and then waiting in line for a PS5 bundle with the rif-raff.

Semi-related, but why do you think people pay 25-100% more for some video games on Amazon vs ebay?

So yeah, you're pretty on point with that.  Internal metrics show the average pro member shops 3-4 times a year.  So that means the weekly/monthly visitors are pulling up the average even to that point, so there's plenty of 1-2 times a year shoppers.

The purpose of the card is indeed a loss-leader to drive return traffic, but it's debatable how well it actually even does that.  Right now it's more just someone looking at a spreadsheet and seeing negatives and freaking out instead of understanding how those could be driving additional margin, yeah you aren't gonna make money off every guest with that style of rewards, but you can't really afford to push guests away either.

As for the vs preowned discount, just for the math.  Even during that time period, the average pro member annual spend was $550.  So assuming all of it was preowned, they only saved $55.  The $5 coupon(if used every month) equates to $60 in just coupon savings and works on both new/preowned.  That was the reasoning for the change, it makes it work for more people.

However, the biggest flaw there is that Gamestop still operates on a backwards philosophy.  They think getting people to sign up for pro gets them to spend more money.  NOT that people sign up for pro because they spend more money.  They're over saturating and the average pro spend has just been nose-diving now over the years as well,  it's in the low-mid 300s.

As an excel kind of guy who is used to converting data to fuzzy numbers, I think if they changed the pro benefit from $5 to monthly to a $15 cert quarterly coupon then they could say:

"Sign up for Pro for $15 and you instantly get a $15 coupon off your next purchase and one for the next 3 quarters!" , etc.

But then I realized the typical gamestop customer would hear "quarter" and think $0.25 and assume it wasn't worth it  :bomb:

Loss of points from trade ins is a bummer but it’s understandable. They’ve given me way too many free points lol

I guess the final hammer that would kill pro for CAGs would be taking away the +10% TIV.

If you still want points for trades you could try to ask to buy a couple gamestop gift cards (or ask for the value to be put on a gift card instead of trade card) as the process for this is Purchasing the gift cards which give you points. I've had no issue with this before and stores even do it when they run out of trade cards which has been pretty often in my area. But the maximum amount on a gift card is like $200 I think.

You can buy GS Gift cards with trade credit?

When I threw 5k at GME it on a whim back when it was ~3, it was mostly because I figured it would eventually get cheap enough someone like Amazon would buy them out, and I'd probably start seeing Gamestops converted to Twitchstops  :bomb:

Got lucky when I saw notification that it was up and got 2. Bought were complete.

Nice. I'm just not the biggest Fire Emblem fan, plus there are so many titles in the series!

yea I remember picking up mine for $6 when they clearanced gamecube games back in 2012 i think?

Back in the late aughts, I was single and working 50+ hours a week and then playing World of Warcraft 50+ hours a week, so had zero interest in any console systems at the time!  :fridge:

make sure you test that persona Q, I think its been mentioned, but they almost all have a manufacturing defect that renders them unplayable after a while. Atlus has a program where you can exchange the cartridge for a digital copy (which obviously doesnt have the defect)

also wow what a score, how are you guys finding this stuff in stock?

Ahh, I wasn't really planning to "play" them - mostly just started collecting Persona after I realized I played the first game on PS1 (never beat it) and picking up the random title or two when I can.

As far as finding in stock - I guess others are using some type of notifications (script?), I just keep a few tabs open with a specific item I want and refresh a few times a day - then when it shows "add to cart" I drop everything and spam that place order button! Typically when one thing comes in stock, that means there has been a sizable restock in that category.

On the GS retro topic, it does look like listings are popping in and out of existence, so hopefully they'll still keep some stuff in stock when they do get them traded in. I know there are a few things I'd still be willing to roll the dice on. My last wave of retro finally arrived today after the snow delays, so here's the final tally:
Gamecube: 4/8 cases, 2/8 manuals
DS: 2/3 Cases, 2/3 manuals
3DS: 1/2 cases, 1/2 manuals
Gameboy: 2/3 correct game (wrong Wario game...)
Vita: 1/2 cases, 0/2 manuals (maybe wrong region...)
PS1: 1/6 cases, 0/6 manuals
3DS: 2x Samus XL with a minor scratches = woot, 1x Pikachu LL... clearly a re-shell of a random XL = fail... returning.
Anyone who ordered the Gamecube Fire Emblems get it complete? I didn't want to roll that dice.

Well, it appears that some of the games whose pages they removed are phasing in and out of existence depending on when you check so maybe this whole thing is just some backend fugazi. Although it does seem to be limited to obscure niche titles and retro, so idk

There have always been some listings that never showed up in the default search/filter for all other items in the same category. I wonder how many different contractors have worked on the GS website.  :pc:

Man gamestop hasn't really tried at all lately looking a repro retro carts anymore.

Got two of my games in and was happy Darkwing Duck for the NES is legit but my Might Morphen Power Rangers snes is a really bad knock off.  The label looks so bad and the text was made off a cheap printer lol.

My retro orders from November that updated from "awaiting product availability" this week are still "preparing for shipment...", but the recent orders placed this week:

Gamecube: 5/8 spunk stained resurfaced, 4/8 cases, 2/8 manuals.

DS+3DS: 3/5 cases, 3/5 manuals, 5/5 taste real

Gameboy: 2/3 correct game, 3/3 smell real

Vita: 1/2 cases, 0/2 manuals

Got 2 3DS consoles that should arrive today from TX, so here's hoping they weren't sand blasted.  :oldman:

As much as I would love to have GS go full retro with prices for complete, loose, sealed, etc, that isn't where the money is. Retro is a limited known quantity, you can't just manufacture more of it like you can with NFTs.

I'm just waiting until the only Buster Sword sells on GS NFT marketplace for 12.5M USD!  :oldman:
