#14394851 Best Buy GCU to be discontinued 3-1-2021

Posted by indieman on 04 May 2021 - 02:57 AM

since this got bumped, and for historical purposes, I'll share my GCU story. I got my GCU membership online and it never worked... well, it worked ONLY on the initial purchase. I called best buy, spoke to managers for days, even went into a brick and mortar store (unless if that store was made out of wood), and nobody could get it to work. They gave me $30 in best buy money and told me to buy another membership. That still didn't work... I ended up somehow buying the membership AGAIN but with cash. That time, the membership stuck to my account. They never refunded me for the second cash purchase, so I had 4 years with everything considered stacked on my account. I was upset, but whatever.

My membership was suppose to end the last day of Feb 2021, 1 day before the official end of the program... I got an e-mail saying that I'll get a refund for each membership. A month or so later, a nice $60 check from BBY showed up in my mailbox . I was happy.

#14370627 Apple iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad) -- Ongoing Sales

This is a bit of an odd request, but you know those ads that pop up in mobile games where they show puzzles where you have to remove barriers in a certain order to achieve a desired result? Usually these barriers are holding back multiple kinds of liquid and the goal is to get the good liquid in the desired space, or to mix the liquids in some fashion. Those ads are always for completely different kinds of (really shitty freemium) games, but the puzzles actually look like they could be designed in a fairly engaging manner, does anyone know whether there are any actual games centered on similar puzzles? Mobile or not.

I don't know the ads that you speak of, but what you write sounds like the have "Where's My Water"

I doubt they care about getting GCU members back. They lost money on it.

Nothing will happen here.  Best Buy has had record profits this year by selling phones, tablets, other electronics, printers and home office equipment.  Video games have never been particularly profitable and creating another program that loses them money on slim margin items at a time when people aren't even coming into stores and buying other high margin items in a lot of areas makes zero sense.

Excellent... then they have lost my business. I guess they still win since it doesn't matter to them.

#14368025 Microsoft Rewards Breakdown

Posted by indieman on 07 January 2021 - 04:45 AM

The discount is 8750 Microsoft Rewards points for a $10 Xbox gift card.  It can only be auto-redeemed after the first day of each month, but you have select that option on the Microsoft Rewards app on your Xbox One or S/X to set it up.  Hot Deals is dead and probably will not return, so this is the best opportunity to get discounted credit.

Yea... I realized where it was after the comment I made. You can't find it online... it must be on the xbox bing rewards app.

Do I went in today to a dollar general and I was able to snag one $500 card for $425.. then I tried to do it again and they got an error. The clerk rushed me away and told me that I can't buy more than one... WTF. After I gave her some time and I cleared my head, I thought maybe the system is doing this as a preventative measure of mistakenly redeeming two cards which makes sense... Anyway, I'm so happy I guess. I guess I'll only be getting a PS5 or an Xbox one, whichever comes first

Bing Rewards can be used to extend your Game Pass, so I wouldn't ignore it completely.  A few minutes of searches a day can make a difference, and there are specific Game Pass quests that will help you to rack up lots of points in a short amount of time.  Hey, free is free!

Anyway, I use the Xbox One tab on PS Prices to show me what's currently on sale.  That way, you can get the most out of your Xbox funds.

dude, this is gold. Also, I don't ignore it at all. I mine it a lot. There's an android app that would maximize your earnings by doing all searches (I don't want people to abuse the system like me though)

If you are looking for indies, look no further than Cuphead. The glory of classic cartoons turned into a run-n-gun/boss medley, it does all of them justice.

If you want less light-hearted and more pulling on your emotions, the pair of Ori games are wonderful platformers that tell a great story.

Got cuphead on ALL platforms already. Ori I got on gamepass. I really need something that I can't get on steam. wait a minute... I'm an idiot... old xbox 360 games would be perfect.

I knew this, but can’t use reward cash on backward compatible games. The OP said that we could when buying through the console though, but we can’t..or at least I couldn’t when I tried.

Not for the first year or two.

This wasn't the case before. Also, nowadays, LRG sells their games in Bestbuy. I feel like this is big buisness pushing their weight and changing laws that benefit them. But this also benefits everyone else, so no biggie for anybody except the publishing company.

I have a lot of work to do today, so of course I decided to spend time looking into this instead:

Looks like there's a different rating process for digital only games (a developer answers a questionnaire) vs physical releases (the game gets reviewed)

My guess is that there's a physical copy of the Switch version but no physical copy of the others, so s different rating process produced two different ratings for the same game...

World class procrastination right there. You have my respect.

Wait, is this normal?  It's E10 on Steam (and PSN) but T on the eShop?  Are they different versions of the game or something?  Or maybe the rating changed and someone didn't update the game's store page?

I can confirm that this is true. If a game does not have to reside on store shelves, they do not even need an ESRB rating (I'm assuming it's the same for the European PEGI market). This is why limited run games do not have anything on them. There's also a royalty/fee (i believe) that goes to this board/company.

I learned about this from a podcast with one of the heads of Limited Run.

OMG FINALLY STREET FIGHTER 4 VANILLA IS NOT ON SALE FOR $9.99!! $3.99 is a good price, I'm sure it'll be GWG one day but I've been itching to play it again.

Can you explain why this is preferable over a, let's say, non-vanilla version? It seems like you wanted this one over the Super. Thanks. I honestly would just like to know, not trying to be rude.

#14015808 Steam+ Deals Mega Thread (All PC Gaming Deals)

Posted by indieman on 22 June 2018 - 10:26 PM

There's maybe half a dozen games on my wishlist (of 180 or so games) that have a discount of 70% off or more and those are easily future bundle fodder.

Fake edit: Okay, I lied it's more like 20 or so, but they're all bundle fodder (or should be), examples: SturmFront, Has-Been Heroes, Eador: Imperium, Zombie City Defense 2, Versus Squad, Siralim 2, Solitairica, etc.

The only one that sort of an independent purchase is Grim Dawn and that's already been in a Humble Monthly... still refuses to go below a $7.50 price point despite pooping out multiple DLC.  Hell, the latest expansion was released almost a year ago (Oct. 2017) and is only 20% off.  It's laughable.

Hey, just looked at SturmFront and it looks like an absolutle hidden gem. My youtube channel is dedicated to cool hidden games like these... if you have any other recommendations, please let me know. <3 Going to look at the rest of which you posted.
