#14303337 Humble Bundle Thread

Posted by nny on 03 July 2020 - 06:44 PM

I've played BH2 during free weekends and have been pretty disappointed by it, but I still love the franchise enough that I knew I'd get it someday. I really disagree with some of the choices in the game, but I like the streaming music integration and it does have a big progression model if you're into that kind of thing. This whole bundle is cheaper than BH2's previous low, so I went ahead and unpaused for the first time since Choice started up.

Picked up Verlet Swing and Metal Unit since those both looked like something I would play. Already "have" Void Bastards and Planetfall via game pass, so I sold off my other choices for $13. Pretty happy with that turnout.

Conan Exiles in tomorrow's Humble Choice? They seem to like repeating monthly games lately.

70 dollars is a hard sell for a lot of games.  I know games haven't gone up in price since the 360 launch and inflation is a thing but sadly my pay hasn't gone up 10 dollars in an hour in that time either.

If you need a $10/hr raise to pay for a raise in video game prices then you have problems way bigger than video games going up in price. A 10 cent an hour increase would get you an extra $200 a year (assuming 40h/wk) which would easily pay for the $10 difference on the handful of games that are worth buying at launch each year.

Also, if we're going by inflation, games should be closer to $80 than $70 by now.

A lot of highly acclaimed comics in this bundle. I might go for the top tier: https://www.humblebu...-showcase-books

There's nothing I feel like I really need and of course none of the prices are that great, but I tried to come up with some stuff to hit $30. The best I can do so far is $21.84

https://store.steamp.../Ancient_Enemy/ complete a bundle for 8.43

https://store.steamp...00/Audiosurf_2/ 3.74

https://store.steamp...Dicey_Dungeons/ 7.49

https://store.steamp.../644560/Mirror/ .79

https://store.steamp.../773670/Delete/ 1.39

Maybe something in the Humble Choice will sway me one way or another but doubtful.

Its also cheaper on gmg, more so than the 20% unknown reason discount

Looks like it's 23% off on GMG for VIPs. Oh well, I already bought it, but I had steam credit, so it's about the same either way. I also found out the 20% discount is for people that own Slay the Spire. Kinda random that they partnered up, but the StS guy that was on the stream last night said he's already at level 20 covenant in Monster Train, so apparently he's pretty obsessed with the game.

I thought it was kinda funny in the stream that the StS guy mentioned ascension levels as one of the things that make StS unique since that's one aspect that Monster Train 100% copied. I know ascension/covenant are basically just difficulty levels, but I really like the way they're implemented in both games.

Steam's having some kind of event, but I guess nobody cares. It's not exactly clear what it is, but I guess you get badge progress for playing games that you already own. I know they recently rolled out a new algorithm that's supposed to be good at guessing the games in your library that you'd like to play, but it seems pretty shitty at guessing so far.

More important news though; Monster Train launched today. Looks like it has a 10% discount for everybody, but I got a 20% discount. Probably because I had it wishlisted or something.

The devs are running a stream for it all day and the co-creator of Slay the Spire is going to be on the stream in a couple hours. It'll be interesting to see what he says about the game since it kinda feels like they ripped a lot off of StS for this game.

I think the dumbest I've ever felt playing a game is when I played Lego Batman and couldn't figure out how to get past the first level.

Not sure if there's anything I'll actually buy, but there's some pretty great deals in that Epic sale. Didn't bother researching these, but the following stick out to me.

Control $20

Borderlands 3 $20

Witcher 3 GOTY $5

Journey to the Savage Planet $8

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw $10

Shenmue 3 $15

Jackbox 2-4 are ~$5 and 5 and 6 are ~$10

I envy the concept of not having a backlog, but I don't know how that's even possible in today's world. For instance, there's so many games now that never end. There's always more Apex, Warzone, Hearthstone to play, not to mention all the mobile games out there with endless content. I know many people wouldn't throw those games in their backlog, but when I'm deciding what to play each day, I always have to add them into the equation and it is a bit overwhelming.

When I first saw this bundle, I was instantly turned off with Xcom2 being a repeat and not including War of the Chosen or maybe even Chimera Squad. Also, with what's going to be continuing trend of Horace being free from Epic, Heave Ho being free from Twitch and I think Swords of Ditto being free from Twitch and PS+. Once I looked through all the games though I think this bundle would be worth it even with the repeats if I was interested in Jurassic World, but I'm not so this is a skip.

I don't think they included any Game Pass games this time though which is a first for Choice.

Damn, polygon says the new Xcom might be the best value in gaming since the Orange Box. Looks like Fanatical has it for $9 and I have a 5% off coupon but it's not good on preorders. Wonder if it will still be $9 when it releases tomorrow.

I'll never get the praise for Better Call Saul. The first couple seasons were interesting, but the show got so boring after it just became a Breaking Bad prequel.

I have such mixed emotions about Breaking Bad. I was blown away by how good the first season was, but the second season was so mediocre by comparison. The big reveal of that season is seriously one of the stupidest things I've ever seen a highly acclaimed series do. I feel like the show redeemed itself by the final season though; excellent ending. I liked El Camino, but I felt that it took away a bit from the perfect ending of Breaking Bad.

I've been watching Succession lately since it's free from HBO. Loved all of the first season, but haven't been feeling the second season so far. It feels like they broke all the main characters and not the good kind of "broke".
