#14305513 LEGO Deals 3

Posted by etcrane on 11 July 2020 - 10:57 PM

Prices tend to be higher on Amazon for selling sets, however their cut feels like it keeps increasing. Ebay is sort of deceptive, or at least they used to be, because they would take a seller fee and then there was a Paypal fee as well. I should really know if that’s still the case since I have some old stuff listed on there currently, but I’m not sure if the fees are as bad as they used to be.

The biggest challenge with selling LEGO online is actually shipping the larger, more expensive sets. You can easily find yourself paying $20+ on large sets ... plus you have to find a box that will fit and make sure the set isn’t going to be damaged.

If you can sell locally (FB market place, Craigslist, Next Door), you will save a ton on fees, shipping, scams and picky customers. Selling on here is also safer, as was mentioned.

Great deal on Micro SD cards on Amazon right now, not the best brand but Micro Center cards are $9.99 for 64 gb and $16.99 for 128 gb ... note that you will have to jump through some hoops to use larger than 32 gb natively for the 3DS.

Took one for the team and canceled my preorder after picking up the Last of Us. The amount remains as initially charged, so you lose half the discount when the preorder is cancelled. Will probably end up returning the Last of Us, since $50 seems high.

Thanks for your thoughts. I guess you're right the Vita can't emulate 3DS games. However can't it emulate a ton of other stuff still like the PSP Library?

It can, which adds value. The Vita is a solid system, but the back touch panel can easily get scratched to hell, which is why I would be weary of a $100 price point for it. But yes, with a Vita you get solid emulation for PSP, PS1 and most third and fourth gen systems. With 3DS you get GB, GBC, GBA, DS, very limited PS1 and then most third and fourth gen systems (NES/Super NES/Genesis/etc). I think there's also some arcade emulation and one-off systems like NeoGeo Pocket or something, plus RetroArch support.

This is actually a decent break down with some pros and cons - https://versus.com/e...vs-sony-vita-3g

If you had asked me 5 years ago, I would have been the Vita all the way. It's a beautiful, high quality piece of tech that was heavily underutilized and abandoned by Sony. But if you're comparing a potentially grungy Vita to a brand new 2DS XL in 2020, I think you'll get more value at a lower price point picking up the 2DS. Here's the thing - $99 for the system, $20 or less for a 32 GB micro SD card and a trip to certain boards on Reddit and you've pretty much unlocked the entire 3DS library. The Vita is a bit more complicated ... and the hack is a bit more involved. Plus, if you're buying a used Vita, there used to be models that couldn't be hacked bc of system updates. I think they may have finally cracked it, but 3DS/2DS is fully cracked and buying this $99 model will guarantee you can hack it for emulators, etc. Just my two cents, I'll be quiet now ;-).

No offense but comparing a used $100 vita to a brand new 2DS XL is a bit of a stretch. Lowest price for a vita is $150 at the moment, sure they can drop down to sub $100 but what condition will they be in? The Vita library is ok, but it pales in comparison to the 3DS. Most of the best Vita games have been ported to other systems, whereas most 3DS titles have not because of the touch screen / dual screen set up.

Sure the 2DS isn’t the most luxurious way to experience the 3DS library, but for $100 you’re getting a system that can literally be hacked to include just about anything and everything you could want on the console. Vitas are also hackable, but you’re limited by a proprietary memory card system vs a standard (cheap) micro SD option for the 3DS.

Bottom line, this is a steal for what is possible, whereas the vita has some significant shortcomings. I would only recommend a vita if there’s an exclusive you’re dying to play. The screen is better, but compared to a Switch, the Vita is simply a nice ‘historic‘ system rather than a must-have imo.

Liking that Hedwig set that comes out in September, looks like a LEGO store / B&N Exclusive ... $39.99 seems reasonable.

Just cancelled a few discounted LEGO orders from Walmart ... spending too much on toys in uncertain times. Granted, I couldn’t resist the Jurassic World Dino Mech set on sale for $62 from B&N ... that set got surpassingly hard to find under msrp really fast.

Pretty meh. Was hoping for something like Yakuza Kiwami 2, but that will probably be end of the year, based on the past titles.

Hellblade from last month looks interesting and I never did end up getting it, but I'm getting the sense that Epic Games Store will give it away at some point.

Also, there hasn't been a Ubisoft headliner since AC: Origins last year.

Hellblade is an absolutely stunning looking walking simulator / tech demo with extremely mediocre combat and very little else ... and a ‘deep’ story about mental illness or something ... I honestly found it prettt awful to be honest, and I’m a fan of that developer’s previous work. I would wait to get it for free / very little and/or pick up the sequel when it comes out on the next gen Xbox (assuming they address what was lacking in the first game).

Oh and yeah, bundle sucks for July but I say that every month. Kind of want to own Planetfall though ... hmmm

Apologies if this was already posted, but best price I've seen for the base game + season pass. Picked one up and will sell my unopened copy of the base game. Cheers

New Egg is the online equivalent of Frys in many ways ... lots of purchases in the past, but losing more and more relevance with every passing season.

Sometimes I browse new games that have come out on Steam in the last 6 months, and I find a ton that intrigue me (like GTFO or Metro Exodus) and then I eagerly await the next Humble Choice Bundle ... and consistenly find none of those interesting games. This has now been happening for months ... I wonder if there's something wrong with me.  :-

So I have a stupid question, if I use my Epic coupon, will I get another? Wording has me slightly confused.

Yes, as long as you spend enough to use your current coupon, you will get another until the end of the sale.
