#14423573 GOG Deals Thread

Can we all agree that limited time events in single player games is the stupidest game trend?

I have some singleplayer games that have daily / limited-time challenges that I really enjoy. BTD 5 and BTD 6 both have events and challenges and I find myself doing some of them nearly every day. It doesn't take long and I find it keeps me engaged with the game. Borderlands 3 is another (SP game to me, as I rarely play it MP) that incentivizes daily/weekly interaction.

I don't mind them if the things they are asking me to do are pretty easy to get into and accomplish. However, I DO find myself dreading those kinds of things that make unreasonable requests of my time on a daily basis. I used to play Rocket League a lot, but I found myself just grinding horrible online games to get cosmetics and it ended up just turning me off of their events altogether. Other games are bad about that too and I have to just ignore them.

So I don't know if that's what you're talking about or not, but I'm okay with SP events if they are not overly demanding. I've got shit to do.

Hitman Go really surprised me. It was a very nice little puzzle game. But yeah, those are some dusty old games.

I have the opposite experience of many of you regarding Far Cry. I played Far Cry the year it was released and it was pretty amazing for its time. At least the first 2/3 of the game. The last bit got linear and a lot less fun;

I started Far Cry 2 several times but kept getting pissed off with the whole Malaria thing.

I've been collecting all of them without playing them for some reason.

So... skip ahead to 4 and try again?

Looks like this month they have switched from mediocre headliner and trashy filler, to mediocre from top to bottom. Though that MMO game looks like a dumpster fire.

Out of Space has already been in a Fanatical bundle.

I had a little fun with the Summer Sale. I spent some time looking at SteamDB's filter tool and saw that a few of my wishlisted games were at all-time lows. Mostly, others just matched their all-time low (read: regular sale price).

So I checked into wishlisted games that had Complete the Bundle pricing to find some decent further discounts. DiRT 4 was one that caught my eye. One more decent racing game to throw on the backlog.

I also watched my activity feed to see if anyone else picked up anything interesting.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered
MX Nitro
Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn

This was a trio of well-reviewed games in a nice bundle price.

I also saw these in my Discovery Queue:

The Room

The Room Two
Glass Masquerade
Glass Masquerade 2: Illusions

And I've actually already started The Room. I really like puzzle games and, though the series has been around a while, they were new to me. They seem to revolve around discovering how to operate and get into highly complex "physical" objects. Three dimensional decorative boxes and that kind of thing. The puzzles are not overly difficult, but they do challenge your observational ability and I've never come across a solution that I felt was unfair. I actually liked the first so well that I bought a second before I was even finished,

Time spent looking through Steam's front page: zero

This is the NOT AS GOOD AS THAT OTHER GAME bundle.

Yakuza 3 is 11 years old and hasn't aged real well. It's hardly anyone's favorite in the series. The Surge 2 is.... not as good as that other one.

Hammerting looks like it's in a genre I kinda like... but it's not as good as Craft the World.

Bee Sim isn't really a sim.

All the other games -- if you read up on them a bit -- are kind of problematic in some way. It's really representative of what they've been offering lately. It's either become much too difficult to put together a decent bundle lately, or they just don't care.

Let's set value aside and look at why it's just not a good Humble Monthly bundle:

1. I own the headliner. Automatic disqualification for "good status" -- indisputable.

2. Headliner is from 2016. For context: (other games released in 2016 include Titanfall 2, Overwatch, XCOM 2)

3. It's already been in a Humble Monthly (with two add-ons) ... over three years ago.

4. Two problematic multiplayer games

5. A visual novel (YMMV)

6. Some pixel graphics games

7. A GOG ONLY GAME (this probably deserves to be higher)

If you look at it as a Civ bundle, that means you're a Civ fan and you're excited to get more DLC for cheap, The other stuff is gravy on top.

As a Humble Monthly though? It's really disappointing. There are so many things not to like about it and only a few ok-looking games to make up for it. For $12... hell no. I passed on it for $8. But I'm not a huge Civ fan and I played it enough a few years ago.

Other than Civ 6 this is basically a Fanatical-tier bundle.

I dunno... I actually bought a Fanatical bundle this month.

I thought it lost its way with IV but maybe mine is a minority opinion.  If it is, I get to disparagingly compare your tastes to McDonalds and Taylor Swift, so I have that going for me.  I assume V will try to be more extreme so I'm not optimistic that it'll be a return to form.

I never bothered with Gat out of Hell (purchased during the great GameStop glitch)

Yeah, I didn't enjoy IV as much as I thought I would. On paper, having super powers in the SR world sounds like fun. it was just too much, too soon, and the whole game felt like cheat-mode to me.

Saints Row: The Third - Remastered is coming to Steam on May 22nd:

I had a great time with that game when it came out, and the enhanced edition sure does seem to have a number of improvements. Despite all that, I don't think I have any desire to play it again. It's a pretty lengthy game if you like to complete everything and there are plenty of new games in the open world genre now.

Not to mention... that price. Yeow.

I've owned Lego Batman 3 on several platforms over the years, and I can never get past the second world.  It is exhausting to play, extremely linear, and not fun at all.  I've heard that Lego DC Super-Villains is a lot more open-world game.

So...I'm still deciding whether or not to bite.

Marvel and DC Super-Villains were some of my favorite LEGO games. When I say Marvel, I mean any of the games in that realm. Both have open world hubs that are pretty large with lots to do in them. Fun side note: Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy voice Joker and Batman, which is great.

I tried one of the Lego Lord of the Rings games they gave away for free on Humble... seemed pretty boring.

I love LEGO games but I had a hard time finishing that one. I agree.
