Sanders idea to let the post office handle some banking services.

13 January 2016 - 08:56 PM

Can anyone find anything wrong with his proposal? There are a lot of policies that I can see how we are all super divided on but this one seems pretty common sense. The post office becomes solvent and Americans who use cash loan and other shady lending services get a big win. Over time the number of services the post office offered could increase til we have government run banks/Post Offices big enough to take some of the sting out of the next big banking collapse.

I also think it is an amazingly brilliant idea because it helps address the growing issue of financial fraud. My wife and I have always stayed with credit unions hating the big banks stupid fees and it morally felt the civic minded thing to do. However in recent years we have had issues several times with the credit union itself being hacked and our data being stolen. Right now today we have no access to our card or account thanks to this issue raising its ugly head again. I would feel soooooo much more comfortable banking with the goverment/post office then I would any bank or credit union.

So, what are the down sides you guys are seeing? Personally I think it has to be one of the most sensible ideas of this campaign and should be fairly non controversial.....should be

A question for conservatives. Which Presidents are your role models?

11 January 2016 - 02:30 AM

Watching my millionth Roosevelt documentary and thinking God do I respect FDR and to a much less extent Teddy Roosevelt. Like their policies or not its undeniable that they were at least TRYING to reach the common man and the underdog. They also both proved they were 2 of the toughest men to ever live(you try being as sick as FDR and giving a speach while holding your crippeld body up!).

I am interested to hear from UncleBob, Silkunderpants and the boards other conservatives which Presidents you look up to and feel other Presidents would be wise to imitate/learn from and why they were such great Presidents. Just a good way to learn where someones head is at and why they politically lean the way they do.

Best Batman games to play with my little cousin?

22 December 2015 - 07:53 PM

My cousin is coming over to stay a week with my wife and I. She is in I think in the 6th grade and is apparently REALLY REALLY into Batman. My wife loves Batman so we already own all the Blu Rays to watch with her. However we know she has never played any bat man games at all. I know I own a few of the steam ones and have not got around to playing any of them except the first, so I figured maybe one of them. Just did not know if any were particulary stand out/age appropriate or if there is an older retro batman on the genesis or some other old system worth breaking out for her.

Thanks helping make the little girls week a little more batman filled!

Could we use house arrest more often for non violent offenders?

16 July 2015 - 04:58 PM

We all know we have a major issue with our criminal justice system and that there are too many people in prison, especially non violent offenders. I have to think that in many many many cases non violent offenders would have a spouse/family member both capable and happy to support a loved one who was allowed house arrest as an option. It just seems like both a simpler, cheaper(Quick google fu puts the cost of housing an inmate in the pen at $25,000-$30,000) and more human system. The only two downsides I am seeing is an argument can be made that people are not truly being punished and that a program like this will be biased towards whites/the rich. I would argue though that there are controls against both issues and that the good of not having non violent offenders reenter society violent after being raped and tortured in jail outweighs that negative.

Anyways, anyone know anything about this? I know little about the issue and am really curious if this is typical it takes forever for us to adapt to doing the common sense thing, or if there are costs and issues I am overlooking.
