General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I Legit feel more excited to see what Nintendo does for their new console more than whatever Microsoft or Sony has being that they just feel they're leaning more and more towards being a PC. Meanwhile Nintendo is either conventional gaming wisdom or it's "Miyamoto had a dream where he grew an arm out his stomach so we should make the controller look like this." Like ain't nobody going to use the left and right Joycons as their own separate controllers for multiplayer, but I appreciate the thought.
 
What’s funny about all the new console talk is that even with all the gloating about PS5’s sales, I read today that over half of PlayStation players are still using a PS4. The current generation hasn’t done enough to wow and attract buyers on either side IMO. And we’re already talking about the next one.

Vast majority are still playing Fortnite and Warzone and such. No reason to upgrade or play anything new when those games are constantly updating and run just fine on old ass consoles.

Meanwhile here I am on XBox with my "oh boy another indie game about lost childhood!" games.

The dock for the steam deck is excellent. My wife bought it for me a b-day gift last year and I think Steam Deck looks great on my 65" LG C1.
If you have a 4K TV, the Steam Deck will output 3840 x 2160 in a 16:9 aspect ratio. I think it looks really nice.

That's interesting, everything we had read claimed otherwise. Maybe it has to do with the game being played then, case by case basis.

Yes definitely depends on the game you are playing.
If you are playing a older game or game that doesn't support that resolution then it will not look as good.

I wonder if cheap Argentina codes will still be available then or that loophole will eventually close down. Rockstar is one company that I am mostly okay with not giving too much extra money to, especially since I know they will resell me a next gen version again a few years later.

I recently bought some oldies like Max Payne 1 & 2, Midnight Club and Red Dead Revolver on that buy one get one sale since they never go very low. I hate paying such a high price of only a 50% discount, so I had to buy an Argentina code for RDR2 ultimate edition for $10 to get my average discount percentage back to where I could feel okay with it.
 
If anyone was not going to use the minecoins gamepass perks, and don't mind passing it along, I could hand them to my friend kid who is crazy about minecraft ( it seem to stack even if it say that it doesnt)
 
A lot of these insiders seem to be throwing darts and see what sticks just to be the first to break some “controversial” story. Even those saying CoD might not come to GamePass were hedging there bets saying these are conversations and “it might still come”.

I’ve given up on some of these people. It can be frustrating but I just wait to see what MS itself says at the end of the day.

And if you don’t think ALL companies are having conversations about increasing fees, changing directions, etc., then you’re delusional. At the end of the day Sony, Nintendo and MS want to increase their bottom line whatever way they can.

Its been the least noticeable generational upgrade in console gaming. Slightly better resolution/textures and higher frame rate isn't as noticeable to your average casual gamer. Personally I have a hard time going back to 30 fps at this point. But as someone else pointed out, if you're just playing Fortnite and Warzone, you don't need the latest hardware.

Probably has to due with currency devaluation. Inflation is completely insane there, and when it gets back, everyone takes out loans. By the time the loans mature, the money you're paying back is worth a fraction of what it was when you took out the loan. It adds to their currency issues but its extremely common. People were probably just selling codes below cost with borrowed money.

The Switch 2 is about to crush dreams. Wait till they announce what game they're launching it with, since it's ready and they pushed it back 9mo. to early 2025 just cuz they can. Prolly Metroid Prime 4 and something else crazy. I have a 16yo nephew, I know what my friends' kids like. All any of them care about are Switch games and the upcoming Switch 2. They couldn't give a shit less about four 'kay gaming.

Just look at how the entire concept of Steam Box completely flopped and compare it to the traction that the Steam Deck is now receiving.

Anyone can spend as much as they want on their "most powerful pc"; that's not a thing. It doesn't set new trends. Half of people are still gaming on previous gen consoles. The market wants an ease-of-use, quality-of-life, plug 'n play, complete solution device that also makes financial sense. It does not want an $800 pseudo-PC with proprietary memory storage and $150 controllers.

I say this as someone who builds a new custom gaming PC every 4-6 years and cares immensely about 4K HDR performance. I installed an RTX 3080 a couple years ago and have barely used it. because consoles are great on the couch, great on the go, and great while going to bed. The entire industry continuously underestimates the appeal of (offline?) plug'n'play.

I'm not renewing my PS+ this month. Piss off. You too, Bungie. There are better things to do. Like go buy Animal Well this month on the platform of my choosing, and get some more of these JP clearance games. I just got Like a Dragon 1 and Hi-Fi rush on Choice, and with full ownership.

Oh look, now they are giving away Endless Legend for free on Steam today. After I just clicked to own Dragon Age: Inquisition for free.

Any console maker who leans harder into always-GAAS, always-online, multi-tiered subscription paywalls, and phone games nonsense is fucked. Just go make phone games then, and chase profits. Core gamers will always be the Kingmakers.

But there you've got your perfect juxtaposition of exciting the core gamers (the interwebs Giant / amalgamation) PLUS exciting the masses. With next gen Mario or something else. Nintendo has all the time in the world to plan a massively successful launch. The delay is happening specifically to include a couple of those titles. They are going to have legit system-movers.

Considering Nintendo's lack of fucks to put either on sale I get it. I Only got the first two Smash Bros. season passes because there was a glitch where Gamestop had all their digital Switch content for $10-$15 off and I'm on my friend's Nintendo family plan for that Mario Kart stuff.

It will be GPU exclusive for sure, because that still fits within day one on Game Pass. It will drop into Core most likely 3-6 months into the cycle to breathe life into the game and capture new DLC sales. That's how I'd run it anyway.

Tripwire only does skins, so it's just a cash shop of sorts. I bought a few skins for the first game when they were on sale way back when just to support it. Game is great, just didn't like the changes in the second one. Will be giving the third a try at the very least since it has been years now.

Starting to seem like generation exclusives matter more than platform exclusives. The upgrade between PS3 to PS4 / 360 to X1 didn't feel significant to me until about 2017, and we have even more diminished returns.

Even RE4-R was on PS4. Modern games cost so much to make and the install base is so much bigger on last gen, publishers don't have a huge incentive to make current gen exclusives unless the game design really doesn't support it. Apparently FF16 was originally going to be pn PS4 also but the game they wanted to make was constrained by last gen.
 
Yeah I played RE4 Remake on PS4 and it was fine. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth is on PS4 as well and looks and plays exactly like the last Kasuga game. Visions of Mana, Reynatis, Ys X, and Metaphor: ReFantazio are all still coming to PS4 this year. I have never before seen less reason to upgrade to next-gen for me personally. I’m not remotely into cinematic AAA next-gen games and I don’t have a fancy tv. Ratchet & Clank looked neat but it runs great on my steam deck anyway. Not interested in Devil May Clive or whatever button masher SE turned Final Fantasy into. Starfield looks like the dullest Bethesda game ever made, and that’s saying something after Fallout 76. Can’t imagine the next Dragon Age will be any good either. Don’t remotely care about GTA6 or CoD. So I will probably end up skipping this gen.

Gimme a switch 2 and steam deck 2 and that’ll be all I need, I guess I’m a casual gamer now.

I just fired up my Xbox 360 to start the process of grabbing some non-BC games. I picked up Trials Fusion, Zombie Driver HD, and Dishwasher VR. I managed to get an achievement in each of these games. Luckily I have a large hard drive in this Xbox 360. Do I need to download all my purchased games off the 360 store before the end of July?

I wanted to mention that the Xbox 360 did not like the 20+ digit password. The dialog box said 8-16 characters max. Not sure if this has been mentioned already. Thank goodness I still have the chat pad accessory which makes it much easier when typing a complex password.

Also, does anyone else have any recommendations for non-BC 360 games that are worthy of a purchase at this point.

Personally I don't know if it's still on the marketplace, but pick up Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate if it's there. It's a good (not great though) 2.5D Metroidvania set in the Arkham universe, but it has yet to see a release on anything, but the seventh gen consoles for some reason not even on PC. Even Arkham Origins is available on PC, but Blackgate is the true forgotten Arkham game that came out on download only for consoles and 3DS.

Oh and Singularity. Legit great FPS game from Raven before they got sent into the Call of Duty mines. Just great slow down time and turn people into red, misty body parts.

Also holy fuck looking at my security activity on my Microsoft account and people in China and Eastern Europe REALLY want to get into my account bad.

I agree with you that it was a good but not great. But fwiw Arkham origins blackgate is available on steam, I actually picked it up recently on a sale for like $3 or something. Can't tell you how it plays on PC / Steam deck since I haven't played it yet, but it was decent enough that I enjoyed it when I played on vita years ago

Oh cool, I just assumed it wasn't merely on the basis that it wasn't included in the Humble Bundle a few months back that had all the Arkham titles and it being the one mysterious title that rarely gets mentioned.

I have the PS3, 4, and 5 hooked up and ready to go and I am barely inching through The Last of Us on the PS4. Same thing for the equivalent generation Xbox consoles and today I barely found out the songs on GTA V on the 360 are different than the ones on the newer consoles. The only game I have played that is current gen only is Jedi Survivor and Starfield (where I spent too much time in outpostbuilding). The only reason I got a PS5 was to get one of the older disc drive versions w/o need for internet connection.

Even then, I am drooling over the Lenovo Legion Go...CAG Life!

It's never included or talked about it's pretty much the forgotten Arkham game. Honestly for good reason. Yet at the same time I liked it enough the first time I played it, I got it again on steam so I guess it's only mostly forgotten

So what's the recent news on Gameflip codes? Is it the sellers send you xbox credit for that region? Or are gifiting codes back? Have they transferred to another region altogether? Or do you have to give them your account info and they buy it for you, on a dummy account preferably? It's changed so much in the last few months I couldn't keep up.

Repackage Neo Geo games for the 50th time. I'd rather have Arcade Archives.
 
Hamster has put zero effort into these emulators with a rom for a while now. If they are going to charge $8+ for these titles they need to put more effort into the package in my opinion. How about some custom artwork? Stylized menus? Something to make the cost seem justified. I would rather buy a compilation of these games since you normally get some extras in those.
