I know. There are two installs for the Xbox 360 version. There's the install from the second disc that makes it so you only need the one disc and then the optional install for the main disc so the drive doesn't need to run to play the game.

I have a 1 TB HDD on my PS3 with about 100 GB free now and a 250 GB with a few GBs free, so the choice is pretty clear for me.

So you are complaining about an optional install that is in no way required but would actually be a huge benefit if you chose to use it (reduced load times and reduced stress on your disc drive) but are preferring the lack of options and choice in a system with a notoriously slow read speed. That makes NO sense to me at all. a large portion of xbox players never install a single disc and you are complaining about the option to do so. Just weird.

I can see if your xbox is loaded to the brim and you would have to delete things to install the install disc, why that would obviously be terrible and make the choice an easy one, but your actual complaint was about an optional optimization install. silly raccoon.

Where did I complain about the optional install? I'm just stating that I'm going with the system where I have plenty of space to accommodate the required install. I greatly prefer to install any and all physical games I have on Xbox 360 for exactly the reasons you stated, which means that GTA V has a double install for me to make the most of the experience and I'd barely be able to handle one of the installs.

Why does everyone want to argue today? Its driving me bonkers. Frisky and anyone else can do whatever the hell they want.

I never said he couldn't. It just seemed like an odd complaint. I do get a little sad when people complain about optional things, but whatever. I am not worried about it at all. I was just trying to get the whole thing sorted.

also I install every disc I play on my xbox and wish I could do something similar on my ps3, though the digital copy of uncharted 3 has made it very apparent that it would make my hard drive cry like a baby if we could do that.

Next gen is going to be interesting, especially downloading full titles. The sizes are going to be nuts. A lot of ISPs have a 250 gig monthly limit, that is only 5 50 gig games. Yikes.

The way they're handling installs on Xbox 360 is why I'll just get GTA V on PS3 since I don't really have the space on Xbox 360 to fuck around with double installing that game (once from disc two and once for disc one). Episodes from Liberty City ran fine for me and this game should benefit from the maturation of their engine.

That is pretty clearly a complaint. You are complaining about a double install. Just wanted to address it for other people and clarify that what you said was not required, nor was there an actual difference in amount of data that was required.

can we move on now? My hopes of clarifying for people who had not heard or had not made a choice yet went down in flames because it seems even more confusing than ever on this thread.

so psn, there was a mention earlier that galaga was not downloading, did that get solved yet or are people still having issues?

Who is this CarpeCubensis guy? He's acting way too familiar to be some new guy.

I am really a new guy. I am not trying to be any particular thing. apologies all around for stirring things up. All I wanted was for people to know the actual differences between the two.

Sorry everybody nothing to see here.

:ziplip:

blood dragon --  well, this is exactly as expected.   it's pretty much an old school traditional 'expansion' for Far Cry 3  - a complete reskin with an intentionally cheesy 80's neon-apocalypse vibe with a sense of humor permeating every facet of the game.   All the same types of missions and garrison takeovers, etc... though perhaps the bases are a bit more complex?  Overall island and story smaller, though.

Perfect if you love FC3 and want more.  I'm only a few chapters in - got sidetracked by all the garrison takeovers and side missions... but it's a nice break from my vita - i'm still really enjoying spy hunter way more than i have any right to based on it's budget look and feel.

----

I just realized that i never got around to playing any of the GTA4 DLC games... how long will each of those take?  I guess I should i chew through them before GTA5 comes out... (i kept putting them off as a midsummer warmup, now i think i missed my chance).

MNS said there was no reason to choose the PS3 version over the Xbox 360 version and I provided a legitimate reason for doing so due to a lack of storage space to handle the required and optional install that I would prefer to do. As you said, the optional install provides a big benefit, so why would I not want to do that if I can?

Okay. Thats very true. I apologize. What I was really trying to do was to make sure people understood it wasn't a requirement, which is something that could have been misunderstood from what you said. Not trying to call you out or say you did something wrong. I went about it the wrong way and I am sorry.

i know you're new here, so in the future you should know that instead of apologizing, you need to amp up the aggression two notches and double down on whatever point you were originally making. moving goal posts is optional, but appreciated.

I will make a note of that. I will be ready next time :boxing:

It's okay.

Ok guys, what's the over/under on the Polygon review score for GTA V? I'm saying they give it a 3 while also naming it the greatest game of all time.

BUT...

They'll say the PS3 version is inferior so it'll get a 1.5.

I bought it and received a blow job a few hours later. Coincidence? I doubt it.

You guys are all forgetting that it also comes out on 360 so Poly will either give it a normal score or do a separate review for the PS3.

Well, a lot of people just paid $2.50 for book 1, so there's a reason not to get it now...

I'm thinking probably 8s from both Polygon and Gamespot (both act like "hipster" sites who like to go against the grain, Polygon seems worse though) and near universal praise from everywhere else. The only thing worse than the pre-release GTA V circlejerk is going to be the post-release GTA V circlejerk.

i haven't even played it and it and i know it will be a 10/10 for me.   i've absolutely loved gta:vc, sa, iv, rdr, bully... and i know they got a lot of flack for gtaiv so i figure they'll give us a lot of SA back... and from the vids it looks like they have (bikes, sky diving, etc).   i'm still close to as spoiler free as can be, can't wait.   i don't think rock star could mess it up for me, it's just a matter of how amazing it's going to be.

Quick question; is there a certain day when it's best to join/re-up on PS+? I have a free month waiting to be used, and I'm wondering if it's anything like XBL Gold; last month I re-upped a month on Gold on the 28th and they bumped my expiration to October 1st, so essentially a couple days extra.

No, nothing like that, but you may want to wait until something you want to play is about to leave the instant game collection so that you'll get that game and another month in which games you might want to play could get added. Either that or hold onto it until there's a big sale that you want to get in on, since the discounted games are always yours to keep.

I'll be getting and playing GTA V, but in my honest opinion, there's never been an amazing Rockstar game. I said this in another thread here, so I'm sort of repeating myself. Rockstar could release a turd in a box and people would give it a 10. Their games are OK, but they're easily and without a doubt the most overhyped and overrated developer in the business.

I've realized that I pretty much hate open world games. I tried to play RDR three times and never got farther than Mexico. I'll still probably get GTA V, but eh, I'm not dyin to play it or anything.

Agree with both of these :grouphug:

That's a big part of the problem for me. Rockstar tries to make GTA so hyper realistic that it's obnoxious. The best game they've had so far is Max Payne 3. No open world, simple combat, and I don't have to worry that if I don't feed my character or work out, or go on a date, my progress will be hindered. I want GTA, not Tamagotchi.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that either, but my number one complaint is travel time. To get a mission, you have to go across the map only to find out the mission is sending you back to where you just were. fuck that noise. The only game where that didn't bother me at all was Fallout 3 because I actually wanted to explore (and it had fast travel for when I didn't).

I would agree with this except Bully is one of my all time favorite games. I did however think Rockstar Table Tennis was that turd in a box, should have been a $5 downloadable that I believe they charged retail price for.

Agree with the agreement and the hugs both.

Agreed until stating you (or implying anyone) would not want Tamagotchi.

Well, that Table Tennis game was a launch window title, so it gets an excuse there. And it is not that bad, it just isn't a $60 title by today's standards.

I went from having zero interest in GTAV to being kinda tempted to get it. But Rayman Legends will take me at least another month to be fully done with, I have such little free time these days...

I loved RDR and GTA: VC. Really enjoyed GTA3, but never really got super into San Andreas or GTAIV. Like you said, they really went for hyper-realism in GTAIV and it sapped a lot of fun out of the game.

Gettingmoney Jay's comment about the travel time is extremely accurate as well, I felt it was the worst in San Andreas. You had to go back and forth all over that map, and there were lots of hills and mountains and shit. Everyone make's a big deal out of "OMG look how huge the GTAV map is!" and all I think is "Christ, it's going to take me 15 minutes to get to each mission!"

Lets be clear. Tamagotchi is awesome. But what I'm saying is dont sell me a GTA game and have it secretly be a Tamagotchi clone. Rumor has it the already being talked about GTA VI will feature needing to obtain a full time job, as well advanced bill paying options. Also if you don't poo every 4 hours in real time, your bladder will explode and you lose all progress. There are only two bathrooms, and they're on opposite sides of the map.

I'm not calling you guys hypocrites for disliking a universally acclaimed series, but I am calling you hypocrites.

i don't know? i didn't include L.A. Noire in my list for a reason. But Bully, GTA, and RDR are all awesome.

I like open world games, and Rockstar is incredible at them. It's not an easy thing to do, and most games get it very wrong.

While I agree I like the less 'realistic' feel of SA or VC over GTAIV, I can't fault them for trying something new. I think issue with GTAIV wasn't so much 'realism' as it was lack of things to do like in SA - turf wars, bizarre little side games, etc. That stuff was stripped out, and it shouldn't have been. I understand why they stripped it out, but it was a mistake (and they seem aware of that).

Sleeping Dogs had a realistic vibe and i (and many others) adored that too. An open world needs to feel vibrant, alive, and full of things to do... GTAIV forgot a bit of that, and while it excelled in many ways, GTA:SA or GTA:VC it wasn't. (It's still a masterpiece tho).

i really loved GTA3 and Vice City, and liked San Andreas a lot, but i literally havent liked a Rockstar game since then. GTA4, RDR, Max Payne 3, LA Noire... no thanks. I still check out their games just because the GTA games on the PS2 were such incredible games that theyre still coasting off that in my mind. but if GTAV is crap then i might be done for good (until the next GTA game comes out on the PS4 and i get suckered again).

also, not really a deal per se, but the f2p Tekken game on PSN is kinda awesome. ive been playing it a lot lately. they simplified it in some ways which i think that series has been needing for a while (massively reduced roster, no more Bounds, less dependent on wall combos). im not any kind of Tekken expert or anything though, they probably all hate that stuff.

they f2p aspect of it is kinda weird, and if your character in Tekken isnt one of the starting characters youre probably going to like it a lot less. i dropped $7 on it to get a silly costume for King and a bunch of coins, and i figure I would have totally paid $7 for the game so whatever. i generally hate f2p stuff and avoid it like the plague, but ive got all the trophies for every other Tekken game on the ps3 so i wanted to complete the set heh.

Anyone else just not a fan of the GTA series?

For me personally I just don't like playing as a villan. I don't mind if its not super realistic but in a game like GTA it just doesn't feel right. Just a gaming pet peeve of mine I guess.

i can not kill creatures in Shadow of the Colossus, meaning the game is effectively unplayable for me.

GTA? Yea, I can run over people.

I think the only thing you can't kill is the horse. Lizards, hawks, and colossi can all be killed. Now you can play the game. If you still don't want to play SotC, then you're a disgusting horse murderer.

So I'm comparing my old backloggery to my new backloggery and I've dropped almost 100 games since I last updated that one, which I believe was mid-Nov 2012.  Boo yah!
