I have removed some of the inaccurate information and the resulting off-topic discussion from this topic to keep it clean.  I may go further but this should be good for now.

 
WARNING!!!

I just received a mail from Xbox that my account AND console have been banned for "marketplace theft". "Illegitimate acquisition of marketplace content"

- Illegitimate acquisition of game titles
- Illegitimate access of Xbox LIVE Marketplace downloadable content

Aargh!!! I had over 20,000 achievement points, $100 in MS points and 3 months of gold left.

If you look at the XBOX forums, you can see lots of others getting banned for the same thing recently:

I got all the Oman stuff and Russian Angry Birds when they were available using the instructions that were posted here before. Deleted them now too late!

Well this sucks! Gotta start from 0 with a new gamer tag playing offline, then buy Xbox One I guess. If I play 360 disk games offline on my banned system with a brand new gamer tag, will all my achievements won on the new gamer tag from now till Dec transfer to the One? Still have lots of unplayed 360 games.....

Of the the hundreds of people who dowloaded the games there are only a handfull of bans. Most are from duplicate accounts on two or more xboxs. If this was from just downloading games there would be a ton more bans.

so, what else did you do?

this is called denial.

everywhere the past week ive seen people saying they got banned for this everybody keeps saying they did something else when its spelled right out for you in the email. now i know why they dont want this kind of thing discussed on here because if someone wouldve never posted about the oman games in another thread saying to check this thread i wouldve never even thought about doing the glitch. now im just waiting on my ban and i know if i get banned what its for because ive never did ANYTHING to warrant a ban besides get those few free games.

im sorry but i know hes not lying.

i feel like a dumbass now im gonna lose thousands of dollars in games just for a few shitty arcade games i wouldve never thought about playing unless they were free.

Im not saying hes lying. Im sure he got banned. Im just asking what eles he did besides just downloading games. Go look at the link there are only about 5-6 bans a day. Most are foreign folks and have got caught buying or selling accounts.

well let me tell you this ive been paranoid since i heard about the first few bans so i been refreshing those support forums all day the past few days and theres been alot of threads that have been deleted after a few minutes and ive checked all their gamertags and most of em had the free games played on their account recently :shrug:

 
Just look at this thread as an example and this is just one site. The news hit every game sight. Thousands of people downloaded the games. The sample of bans is way lower then the amount of downloads. If they were going to ban people from just downloading there would be a mass amount of bans all at the same time. You would see hundreads a day. The numbers are way off. Something eles went down.

There are posts nearly every day that someone got their console banned, there is no abnormal increase in the cases reported at least on the Xbox.com Forum.

If you get the following then you are more likely been banned for Oman thing.

- Promotion or distribution of fraudulent methods in order to obtain marketplace content

- Utilizing fraudulent methods in order to obtain region-specific marketplace content or circumvent regional pricing

 
just shows theyre taking their time to make sure they dont ban anybody wrongfully,hopefully alot of people make it through this though ive learned my lesson LOL.

like i said theres been a bunch of threads disappear within a few minutes of them being posted the past few days,at least 100 threads. or did you miss that part? just because you dont see that many in there now dont mean anything cause ive seen it with my own eyes,then when the thread gets deleted it says "group not found"

jesus christ this is the same shit people been saying to everybody who got banned the past week and when proof is shown they say no you mustve did something else,how bout tomorrow you spend a few hours in the middle of the day refreshing the account and console ban forums and click on the threads when they show up and see how many get deleted.

like i said i havent got banned and i hope i dont for the one mistake ive made in 7 years but to say nobodys gotten banned for it is denial and ill leave it at that cause they posts gonna get deleted anyway *shrugs*

 
I can appreciate the debate and i think it is a debate worth having because whether you want to admit it or not, you are taking a risk by trying to cheat the system...  no matter how large or small you think that risk may be.  That being said, please get back on-topic and continue this debate in the Shopping Morality thread.

I will clean up the off-topic discussion shortly.

Well anyway all I did is what I said before. Followed the directions that used to be on here, got the Oman and Russian stuff through those methods exactly, then played them on my main account. Maybe that was my mistake? Were we supposed to play them only on our Oman and Russian accounts??

Well I'm screwed, but just wanted to warn everyone since I know others must have done like me. LOL I wonder if this is MS way to force people to buy the XBOne?

So my plan is to make a new account (lost 20000GT), play my disk 360 games offline (lost all DLC, Arcade games and MS points), then buy a XBOne and continue using the new account on there

Look on the bright side, maybe now you finally have a reason not to play on xbox anymore, PS4 is the future, with all Xbox BS about going digital, I will not trust them with my money. If only they do the same to me, then I can move onto PS4, the only thing holding me back is my gamerscore and history.

 
The reason we do not allow discussion of cheating the system is that it is against the Microsoft TOS and has no place here.  Whether you believe people are getting banned for this (and banning is a risk you take for this, small or large) or not or whether you want to debate how to-the-letter-of-the-TOS it actually is or not... this discussion is not allowed here.  Nor is the ensuing debate thereof.  Please direct your debate of this subject to the Shopping Morality thread.

Thought about that. Will have to look into it, still have about 30 360 disk games to play though
 
but the compatibilty packs are just for see what have the others, as the ones from Dead Rising 2 or Super Street Fighter, if you don't have them, you are seeing them in default skins

The discussion has gotten ridiculous but rather than just delete it all, i thought it might serve well as a warning to others NOT to try and cheat the system.  Another moderator may choose to delete the entire thing or move it to another section.  But it doesn't belong here, so i moved it all.  If your ON-TOPIC discussion was accidentally moved with the rest, i apologize but i wasn't about to read every post.  If this was the case, though, please PM with the link to the post and i'll move it back.
