Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Wait - when did EA ever have DLC off at crazy prices (i.e. 75% off or better)?

I won't even mention BioWare Points and BioWare DLC in this sentence.

Oh, wait - too late.
Yeah, I'm wondering if I should bite at 50% or if we would ever see it cheaper. I feel like it won't ever happen, but then again they put DS3 in a $1 bundle. After beating it I can say it was worth full price and a second playthrough.

Oh yeah. You're right. I guess I'll wait for a real discount. I just beat DS3 so I guess I can wait a while before jumping in again.
yea amazon really is slow on uppdating their mrsp for lots of game

in perfect world ea games on steam it was 75% off ea deeath sale or valve brought them out and put it on sale. that must be when heh h

Already have xcom on 360, but Had to jump on the XCOM classics bundle for $10, if only to have it for when the expansion comes out. Don't want to have to buy it all over again for console.

Everytime I see Xcom EU it makes think of Xcom Enemas Unwanted  (maybe it's the alien aspect of it and maybe influenced by this game)

In a perfect world:

1. Clients wouldn't be forced to run in background at all times.

I wish Steam wouldn't 95% of the time on Steam-versions be forced to run in the background, once I download & install a Steam-version of a game. This way, if Steam ever is causing problems b/c it is running in the background - I can just not run Steam or disable some of Steam's features - b/c dev's are releasing and testing both Steam and Non-Steam versions, yet there are problems w/ Steam-versions. Problem solved there.

Same goes for Origin, as well. I wish Origin would stop forcing itself to run in the background on newer EA-published titles for Origin-versions of a game since BF3 was released. This pretty much is the same reason as what I said about Steam above, but replace the word Steam w/ Origin in every line. I used to like in the early days of EADM and before BF3, I didn't always have to always run Origin to run a EA-published title.

2. I wish more companies would drop a NO-Steam EXE for a Steam-version of a game, in case crap ever hits the fan - like Egosoft did for X3: Albion Prelude, when a game gets quite old and often on sale cheap. By that time, is there really a need for DRM anymore? In a sense, getting that No-Steam EXE for a Steam-version is like having the best of having best of both worlds - Steam and a DRM-FREE version.

Same can apply to EA Origin-versions of a game, as well.

I really do not want EA to go away. While I do not like many of their practices (i.e. the way they treat DLC; always online DRM on C&C4, Darkspore, and SimCity 2013; forcing Origin to run their games since BF3; the bullcrap with BioWare Points; the way DLC never goes on sale much with them; putting DLC on the disk like ME3 did; etc etc) - they do often put out quality games. Like most things in life - there's always a damn catch-22.

When is FIFA 14 going to be available again? ( pc download version) i dont want that pc instant access crap, i need the key!

Does the 24.99 include all the download dlc from the xcom eu or is it just the xcom eu game

I have the 360 version of xcom eu......I am on the fence on this purchase.

I haven't bought any games that are PC Instant Access (as opposed to PC Download) but the description makes it sound like the game might be added to your Origin account automatically after purchase so maybe you don't get a key?

Right, I forgot about the linking accounts thing.  I wonder if it's an option to not link them?  Well, at any rate, you can technically still get the key from the game page from your Origin client.  I'm guessing the linking thing was done in an effort to keep people from buying up on-sale keys and then redistributing them.

agree with the first two not that second one ea ruin games more and close more good companies and games then and dont u mean first u would have ur own client. but ea needs to stop being money greedy company and liars insteadd consumer friendly that why most people hates is dlc mania and crap and many stuff people hates them for is buying out companies milking franchise if they were more valve or amazon they might be lless hated less worst company and more consumer friendly people willl like them more that why amazon is love and valve is llove more than hate

I did a Google search on PC Instant Access which came back with a bunch of EA games sold on Amazon. The games I checked still had PC Download as an available buying option. I think the FIFA game may just be out of keys right now unless they have no plans to restock and are trying to move everyone towards account linking.

While I do like the quality of games EA puts out, like I said - their business practices often do suck. But, the key to beating their business practices towards us, the consumer - or the key to anybody else's poor business practices, for that matter - is to as often as possible follow the CAG "75% off or better" rule and try not to buy games ASAP. Easier said than done though, yes.

for u yup heh for me easy play my other games

u use to be that but sunasun has pass u in the category im sorry u fail ur misson statement
Full price for ALL Pinball FX 2 DLC = $86.85

75% off that price = $21.72

Beating $22 = beats 75% off.

$10 or $5 is less than $22.

Do the math, Tebow.

no im talking bout overal ur hardcore died since mkk or bioshock infinite u been saying if im going to play it now i buy sunasun is 75% + no matter what and lots of girl on the fly while mysterd who cares bout girls that must be why sunasun on all time work and ladies and get cheap sale reeally hardcore. hardcore is 75% off or gtfo u blur the lines

That DLC won't be complete for a while. They are still adding new tables and may be until a PBFX3 is ever announced. I just want to see any of that game on Amazon at the very least?

Also, was Bioshock 2 completely removed from Amazon DVG? I can't find it anymore, but 1 and Infinite are still there.

My suspicion is 2K pulled the keys that unlock all the DLC to replace them with vanilla ones.

I'm trying to read what you wrote...b/c part of it, not sure if you referring to me or Sunasun!

Anyways....

MyD's rules = 75% off for backlogging; pay whatever for playing ASAP.

I try to aim for 50% off or better for ASAP.

I try to aim for having as few ASAP games as possible.

Certain game titles (i.e. MK9; BS:I; ME3; Bethesda games) & special occasions (birthday, XMas, vacation, etc) can cause me go to ASAP.

Not sure if you saying I care about girls or not. About me & girls - I actually don't have a g/f currently. I'm quite sure my introverted-ness & shyness doesn't help. Oh, it certainly would be nice if a nice girl would actually put up w/ me. ;)

Very similar to my rules. Although w/certain titles I have no problem plunking down as much as it takes to get me the game. Whenever the PC release of dark souls 2 is announced, I'll be weighing all the pre order options and picking the best one. Paid full price for Bioshock Infinite, as well.

I still need to finish Dark Souls: PTD, nevermind Dark Souls 2. ;)

I still hope DS: PTD gets a complete Steamworks conversion and ditches G4WL. That would be so sweet.

Since Bioshock 2 PC really sent that trend, hopefully more follow.

Waiting for another deal on Medal of Honor: Warfighter. % 50 discount is possible i guess as i see it happened once. Like 5 months ago. Hoping to buy it for 10$.

Same here. I have it on Xbox, but I want the PC version, as well. Holding out until G4WL has been patched out.

I already have Dark Souls: PTD on PC.

I really like it - but, I'm kinda terrible at it. ;)

I wonder if G4WL actually gets patched-out, if Durante will need to re-work DSFix again.

The first time I played it I was a big idiot and somehow completely overlooked upgrading weapons, and I went through the whole game with the Drake Sword. That was hard as ballllls. The next time I played I figured out the crafting really fast, which made the game pretty much infinitely easier.

The real hardcore cheapass gamer should now adhere to a Humble Bundle $1 price for at least 5 games or GTFO.  Anyone else, not hardcore.
