Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

I think Tebow touched a nerve ;)
(Half-a-dozen one-liners. The "Report" button has been activated for your convenience.)

Tebow would only touch a nerve if it frequented the same church he does and, even then, they'd have to know each other for a really long time.

Logic does not compute.

Either way, a complete Pinball DLC pack for $20-$30, I'd snap that up in a heartbeat.

According to "IsThereAnyDeal", GameStop PC downloads has had MOH:WF before for $6.
Would be nice if Amazon DVG would go ahead and beat that. ;)
ITAD said that? Nah, that's not a fact -- I was hoping none of y'all would have to go through that...

The real hardcore cheapass gamer should now adhere to a Humble Bundle $1 price for at least 5 games or GTFO. Anyone else, not hardcore.
Real motherphukkin caGs take games hostage and get paid mad ransom...

Free or GTFO, top that!!! ;)
It seems to be simple as that but you need to watch Scared Straight until you cry every time... someone mentions that program.

(I'm etching this message onto a wall in my minimum-security prison cell; it doubles as an internet-connected tablet.)

Pay me to play your game or GTFO!!!
See above.

Hamburger-spider hybrids are killing people with diabetes.

Diabetes itself has nothing to do with the alleged murders, and fast-food chains certainly have nothing to do with murder and diabetes.

Did I say that right, lobbyist-infested American government?

Tony,

Obviously not your department but I'm wondering if you might know through the grapevine if Amazon is planning on any Nvdia GPU deals this month. Thanks, bro!
I asked my buddy about this and the response was "we might do something around Halloween"...so take that for what it's worth lol.

Congrats on the promotion!!! Hopefully that promotion doesn't take you away from us. <3

And BOOOO on the accident... sounds repetitively painful.

Also, Tony, why does EVERY TIME I try buying a digital game from Amazon, it demands I enter my credit card information again? It's really frustrating having to do that every time I want to check it out...
The credit card info thing is weird and shouldn't happen EVERY time. Basically it is part of our customer protection system to make sure your little brother doesn't get on your computer and buy 2309482390542859048509 copies of Bad Rats while you're away.

Is there going to be a repeat of that Borderlands Pack with BL1 GOTY, BL2, and BL2 Season Pass for like $23? That would be great :). If not, will Amazon be doing any sale on Borderlands at all to match Steam?
I'm working on bringing back that pack but no official word yet.

So tempted by BL1 GOTY. 7.49 is a bit high for my cheap-ass soul, but with card money it's hard to say no. Having said that, I'd pay real money if Amazon had it at $5. ^_^
Stay tuned :).

Tony, I see you have Dead Space 3 at 75% off , but the DLC is only 50%. Is that intentional? I need to know before I decide to purchase.
Yeah, I asked about that as well, but it is correct.

u know isnt mrsp is 29.99 on impulse driven for ds3 and crysis 3 so it only 50% off
I hate list price updates :(.

I haven't bought any games that are PC Instant Access (as opposed to PC Download) but the description makes it sound like the game might be added to your Origin account automatically after purchase so maybe you don't get a key?

Send your purchase instantly to your Origin account. How Account Linking Works
Sold by Amazon Digital Services, Inc. Additional taxes may apply. By placing your order, you agree to our Terms of Use.

1. Link
2. Upgrade

Your Amazon account will be linked to a new or existing game/software account using a secure, shared token
Purchase virtual items like currency and upgrades on Amazon.com and use them in your game/software

Important: When linking, you will be asked to create or sign in to an account for this game/software. Amazon will not collect your game/software account's password. Amazon will not share any of your Amazon.com account information with the game/software company, including your Amazon.com username, Amazon.com password, credit card information, address, or telephone number.
So...about account linking. We're in the process of transitioning to a system where your Origin purchases made on Amazon just show up in your Origin account after purchase. We will still offer code versions of some games while we transition to Instant Access.

If you have any specific questions about this, please ask.

Tony, would it be possible to get a complete dlc pack for pinball FX 2 steam version on Amazon?

http://store.steampowered.com/dlc/226980/
I'll reach out on this :).

Also, as a follow up. My mom has been in town all week, so I've been hanging with her most of the week (and thus scarce). I'm also going to Florida again for my annual October dudes trip (10th anniversary). I'll hop on throughout the week to check up on stuff but I won't be around a ton.

Lastly, upcoming deals:

10/10-10/16:

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - $14.99

Cubetractor - $9.99

10/10-10/13:

Street Fighter X Tekken - $7.49

10/13-10/16:

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition: $7.49

Cheers,

Tony

Translation: EA implemented this system b/c they are sick of codes being bought and then sold/traded on Trading forums like CAG. ;)

Now, if only EA could and would do that Humble Bundle, Gamersgate, and other 3rd party digital distributors, they'd probably be happy. ;)

Darn you Tony for having a life outside CAG, we need our deals ;)
Yeah, no crap!

If there ain't enough new crazy deals, I just might have to either...

1. dig more into my backlog

2. and/or be like a Tony and actually get myself a life outside of CAG.

;)

Stay tuned :).

Nooo! I got impatient and bit the bullet when I didn't get a super-fast, instant response. Damn your lack of being one with the internet, Tony. :(

Regarding LoS...thoughts on that? Watched some trailers, looked really cool, like a Castlevania version of Darksiders. Very pretty game, at the least.

There's a demo on Steam you can try. From what I've gathered from reading/playing said demo, it's an awful lot like God of War, which I guess means it's like Darksiders as well (since it also had many of the same elements as GoW). It's not anything I'm looking to jump on so I can't comment on the price, but if you are a big fan of either of those games as well as Castlevania, you'll probably enjoy it.

So does this mean that it won't be possible to buy an Origin game on Amazon as a gift for someone else?

Just look at my list of games on Steam ain't even been playing - i.e. games on bottom w/ NO hours tied to them.

That don't even include the games I have....

1. from Retail;

2. tied to other services (such as Origin, Capsule, UPlay, etc);

3. and from other services (like GOG, Gamersgate).
Ouccchhhh. I thought my backlog was overwhelming, it's at around 180 games or so (I think). If you really want to get blown away, start an account w/How long to beat, and enter in all your games. It gives you an average of how long it takes to beat the game, and adds up your whole backlog. Mine would take me 137 days to beat if I played 24/7 (I haven't updated in a little bit, so it's a bit above that, but you get the picture). So if I don't buy anymore games, my backlog would last me 3 or 4 years, at least. Lol, oh well. The fact that I got all the games for so little makes it really not bother me.

No, NO, NO! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO!

Please make this optional! I don't want my games to get auto-redeemed!

I already never buy anything on Origin just because I'm a stickler for Steam, but if this was implemented it would guarantee that I never buy anything ever for Origin on Amazon.
I think if this does get fully implemented, I'll make sure that I ain't buying stuff I already own on Origin - especially in any Crazy EA Bundles Amazon comes up with...

...unless something I want is in there is so damn cheap, I just wouldn't care about wasted extra-keys.

I'd rather give-away extra keys, not let 'em go to waste.

DUDE, please type with some normal sentences. Your posts are seriously hurting my brain, trying to understand.
It's good for your brain in the long run though, because learning Tebonics is like learning another language. Believe it or not it's actually kind of easy for me to read what he types now...at first I had trouble.

My question is..WHY??? Why Tony WHY??? Horrible....horrible news! And i think, from the "business" part, EA and Amazon are going to lose money with this new system. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

I have to say that the origin account linking is a horrible idea as well. I have had to use it for free play game purchases before and hated it. This idea should be reexamined and terminated in favor of keeping product activation keys. Account linking would make me not want to make origin purchases because I have had enough problems with origin in the past and do not need account linking problems and the chaos that would bring as well. Not to mention the problem of not being able to buy gifts for friends and family. I am not about to pass around my origin account info so I can let my friends play the games I bought them for Christmas or a birthday. If this is a must happen thing because someone at amazon or origin is pushing for it you should consider pushing to have both options available for sale a linked version and keys. Hopefully Tony can give us some more insight into this because I think this will be a problem.
