Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Not sure which portion of the conversation you're responding to but I want to make it clear, we absolutely want end users, gifters, etc. buying multiple copies to do said things with (Gift/Trade/etc.) what we don't want is key resellers buying thousands of copies at a time to resell over several months.

Cheers,
Tony
Oh, I agree. I was responding in regards to the post below.

if linking is initiated without any changes, another option would be to offer both linking and single game purchases. the single game purchase would always cost 15% (or whatever percentage) more than the linking option even during sales. there would also be a percentage of keys available set aside to both options. so for example 70% of the keys would go to linking and 30% would go to single purchases. if the 30% of single keys are all sold it will not negatively affect linking.

edit: maybe just the second part of my idea can be implemented since it would essentially punish people who buy a lot.

a creed 3 $12 on steam pirce match? looking specifically for steam version if you have it.
ACIII (base game only) Steam version -> http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-Online-Game-Code/dp/B00A2Z50KI/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1381261166&sr=8-5&keywords=assassin%27s+creed+iii+online

ACIII: Deluxe - Steam version -> http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-III-Deluxe-Edition/dp/B008L3SHGC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381261204&sr=8-1&keywords=assassin%27s+creed+iii+deluxe

I wish Amazon had a Non-Steam version of AC3 Deluxe.

And I'd rather AC3 Deluxe hit a nice price-cut/sale.

EDIT:

I see, Amazon sells separately Non-Steam versions of ACIII.

But, where's the ACIII Season Pass that is UPlay Only?

thanks for the links

To stop large quantity re-sellers, maybe have a limit of 10 or so purchases for one product.

Account linking would be ok, if Origin had an option to add the game to your inventory(like steam) instead of the game library so you could trade/gift later on.

These people are a problem on pretty much every single retailers. I remember during the whole Metro Last Light price mistake on bestbuy how some bought multiple copies (I believe 50) and came and bragged about it and tried to resell them at $25 a piece. Same happened with the Humble Origin Bundle, they bought the $1 tier and sold it for $15-20 on ebay.

I think another option to curb those people practices is to limit the amount of copies you can buy if that is possible. I know there is an option to create multiple accounts but you can limit the amount allowed per card instead of account.

In general, I don't mind the idea of Origin account linking because most of the time I'm buying the Origin games for myself.  (In general, I'm normally buying games for myself, but I do have a tendency to give away extras or buy 4-packs of multiplayer games to gift the 3 others to my friends.)  Personally, though, I prefer having the keys separate and the ability to redeem them myself at my leisure.  There's just something satisfying about the control over manually adding something new to your library (Origin, Steam, Uplay, or Desura for that matter).

YW.

Just keep in mind - Tony has said not to expect anymore Steam-versions of UbiSoft games.
indeed. looks like ac3 and facr cry 3 maybe the last ubi games i get from amazon if it's within my price range. i wonder if ubi's next step is to completely remove their future games from steam.

Have you seen the BST thread lately? Humble keys for around a buck each! ;)

I don't think so. They want people to use Uplay, but they don't seem to want to force people to buy from the Ubi store.

I actually only go there once in a while if I have a key to sell or something. I still think there is a difference between selling your surplus keys for profit and actually buying several bundles and then going around selling keys for a lot more. My 2 cents though.

One of the things the system does help with really well is key resellers who come and buy 29308432905482940582390482390482304922893439842309 copies of games when we have them on sale and then resell the keys over the next few months (we have a couple of them that post here, PM me regularly, and follow me around on Reddit lol).

Slimy. Why can't they just sell narcotics like a normal person??

1. You guys enjoy having extra keys. The way most Amazon bundle works allows me to split them with friend when I only want 1 or 2 things in them. If I didn't have that option, I wouldn't have bought many of the bundles.

2. The process for account linking could be better. Feel free to provide examples on how here (no clue, never used it)

3. I don't always buy a game for myself. If I see a good price I can pick it up and then give it to someone later on.

4. Account linking should be just an option. If there is no restrictions from EA or Amazon, having this as an extra option like it is right now should be no problem.
1. agreee 2. it should be second option 3. same heere i sometime buy it for friends causee im nice guy so it would hurt more than help

4. yup agree cause i dont want linking but option is fine

it invisibble in Sunasun house mauaha

I have zero interest in linking accounts and prefer using keys. I don't mind if account linking is an option, but I will never use it.
agreee

I'll play devil's advocate here and note that stopping key trading/selling/whatever is not the only upside of account linking.  Have you seen the reviews for items that exist as a code and the confusion that entering a code onto Steam or Origin seems to have for so many consumers?  Undoubtedly that confusion leads to calls to tech support by said confused consumers.  Buying a game and having it just be linked and just work rather than entering a code onto a different site seems like it would be easier for those consumers.

My personal favorite is people writing 1 star "reviews" because their PCDD key didn't activate on their son's Xbox.

Maybe on a game page, there should be a link to instructions on how to activate a game w/ an Origin or Steam key.

I think everyone is missing the main benefits.  Amazon no longer has to host giant game files and provide DLing services for those giant games.  Origin has to do it now.  I have to think the less Amazon has to host the more money it saves.

Nobody said Amazon DVG has to force a file-download through their Amazon servers for Steam and Origin games. Those respective services can handle that.

If Amazon DVG wants, they can just give us an Online Game Key Code Only - and we can let the game-services do the rest.

Well, they did jump on the Amazon website, right?
Need to know how to read to buy stuff through there.
I gawk at Spanish channels all the time and I still don't understand why all those dimes are naked, but that hasn't stopped me from memorizing the networks' program schedules.

I wish we had a Music Forum on CAG (Wait, do we have one here on CAG?) w/ an Amazon MP3 rep who's as awesome as Tony on here w/ deals and stuff of that sort.

MTV(lol): Devin, what do you think about emcees who rehash and still get mad green?

I refuse to use Origin, so this doesn't really affect me.

I didn't even activate/create an Origin account for the Origin Bundle.

You rebel...

the DLC is multiplayer only and the multiplayer is dead
Not all of it. The skins and skill upgrades are for single player. As is the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer pack, which adds a new tomb map to the single player game. The skins are cosmetic and the skills are unlocked just through playing the game, so ultimately not necessarily worth it. The Tomb, though, adds a bit more to the game. There really should have been more like it in the game to begin with though.

One step closer to $5. Though I would buy a complete DLC pack for $10 if that was an option.
I guess you could argue it was below 5 in the 'tony bundle' a while back. I don't know if i'd pay another 5 for the little single player DLC that's available.
