PlayStation 4 Pre-Order Thread *GREATNESS OUT NOW!*

My PS4 that I waited 6 hours in line for was DOA.

If anyone knows anywhere in central IL with some in stock, I would really appreciate a heads-up. :(
Mine too. Have to try and exchange. After reading some of the issues I got a bit worried. Oh well. My ps4 games will have a rest until next week.

With all this failure rate news, anybody bought extended warranty for your systems? Any prior (ps3) experience with sony's?

I'm going to buy my Extended through Sony.

No experience to date with them.

For those looking to buy locally, any GS preorder not picked up by close of business Saturday is available to anyone on Sunday.

Same thing for the XB1 launch next week.

Pretty awesome if you're into arcade MP racing. Don't get it at full price if you don't have broadband.
Thanks. I don't know what I will pick up today. I have KZ coming from newegg. Only other games I'm interested in would be 2k14 or maybe Knack. But I don't feel like Knack is worth $60 AC looks sweet, but I could never really get into any of the others.

Hooked everything up last night and everything is working fine. Love the graphics, but found out about some negatives about gameshare.

Before you start saying you shouldn't gameshare, this is within 2 accounts only. 1 for me and for my son within the same household. So right now we have 2 PS3 in the house, every DLC I buy I just redownload them into his PS3 in his acct, not a problem with that.

Looks like with the PS4 you can't do that anymore even if you only have 1 PS4 with 2 users. Only the PSN acct that purchased the DLC have access to all the DLC and games you buy in the PS Store. It even had me download the updates again for the same games that I already downloaded/installed under my acct. to his acct.

Sony please fix this because it don't make sense to repurchase games/DLC if you're just sharing them to 1 other acct in the same household.

My overnight order just updated to Memphis, Tennessee finally. It's coming to NY. Next time I'm just going to go out and buy a system from a store. How pointless it was to pre-order back in June if other people get it first.

I had ordered from Newegg for next-day shipping on Friday. They have no tax in PA and offered a discount for Next Day Shipping ($10). I even had a pre-order with Amazon with Prime that I foolishly canceled. The package was supposed to ship from CA to PA. Ever since Thursday, the package has been in California. I called Fedex and they told me that the package will not arrive until Monday since there was some issue with freight in California.

Square trade is supposed to be awesome. Plus their plans are cheaper. Especially if you can find a coupon to get a percentage off.
Never used Square trade but I'm hearing good things. I basically rely on the extended warranties provided by CC companies.

Yeah i was debating wherher to get the bestbuy's warranty or sony's. Never bought warranty with all my elecronics but with the news it got me worried. Jusy wanted to get more info and experience stories on how these work

Stay away from the BB warranty. Unless they changed anything, they will replace an item once. Upon getting the replacement, you have to buy the warranty again.

Bought my console at bestbuy, is my unit eligible for squaretrade? Do they repair first the unit or give you a refurb or new back?

I used the $10 voucher that came with the system plus my $10 from the October spend $50 promo towards the Sony 3 year with accidental coverage. That seemed like the best deal to me.

Well sorry to hear about everyones DOA consoles...I received mine from amazon yesterday afternoon and no problems yet. I still dont know what to make of the fail rate...I see A LOT of people reporting bricked / malfunctioning consoles. I think its greater than the .4 percent sony was reporting...
It's not. The affected will probably be around 20k PS4s and the small sample we have here is in line with that.

Best Buys warranty 5 years ago was the bomb.

Unlimited returns the first year, but the 2nd year you got 1, and had to rebuy it,

From what I've been hearing around the web people are saying that apparently some Foxconn forced Labor Students intentionally sabotaged system. Hard to say how true that is but doing a Google search showed a lot of results about FC pushing workers for PS4 supply.

If they sold 1 million PS4s, .4% of that is 4,000 units. In the grand scheme, its not a lot.
But where the hell did he pull .4% from? He said it on launch day in the morning I believe that was before a large amount of people starting complaining. And again where is he getting that number from?

I've never done the extended warranty.. but I did have a PS3 fail in the first year and have to have warranty service.. Took about a week and a half to 2 weeks but was very happy with the service... They sent a box to pack it in etc...

Finally got mine I received from Amazon yesterday all hooked up this morning...working like a charm so far. DL'ing the free games from the Sony store now. Good lord, this Dualshock 4 is SO much better than the DS3. Love it!

Bought my 2 year squaretrade through amazon immediately after receiving the console. After hearing grumblings of console failure i figured why not. 30 bucks for two years? Sounds good to me.

Hmm, a need for speed rivals for ps4 has popped around me that used and witht he 25% off it would make it $36. wondering if I should pull the trigger on that or not.

I am so annoyed with BF4's biggest advantage over the last gen consoles not working: 64 person conquest MP. Also, my Day 1 Digital copy of NBA 2k14 is taking forever to install. Since 6pm et yesterday till today, it's only at 70%.

It was and they took a crazy bath on it. The store I worked at was the highest volume store in the state and more 360s went out the door to those plans than new it seemed like.

Assuming my system works I'll likely get a 3 Year Squaretrade warranty for $38. At that cost it's better to be safe then sorry.

On a side note i'm not surprised at all with these BF4 issues. The PC version was and still is a complete mess I still have problems playing it (Crashing) and it reeked of a rushed game.

I went through like 3 or 4.

Then on my 5th one the geeksquad dude was a dick so he said no. I went around the corner and returned it via my warranty at customer service.

Went and bought an elite with the giftcard on sale and got another $50 GC that I used to rebuy my warranty.

I don't know why any company would go into the product insurance business....lol

You can get more money from people buying new system after one breaks/craps out then offering a replacement/repair option.

You could make more money if you open a company who pays for broken system, then a company who waste time repairing/replacing product under insurance.

Also, loving my PS4 so far, I love how you can play a game exit out to the xbar and come right back to where you were at in the game.  KZ is very good so far.  Is there a way to play mp4 movies at all, or is this something they are adding in later?

How are you getting it for 38 bucks?

Have you played a DICE game at release before? They're usually broken messes for months. BF4 was by far their best release and they've done a phenomenal job getting the PC version patched up. Even more so that almost all of the problems are on the server side. The last big patch to the servers fixed all the major issues the group I play with was having. They'll get the console versions fixed up but it takes longer with the certification and junk they have to go through.

That number is not believable for the reason you mention. Basically, how can they know the defect rate while they're still sitting in stores? It's probably the percent that their engineers told them. It doesn't seem at all possible at this point. I've seen other sites where people are comparing the manufacture location and time and it seems almost all the defective consoles originate from a certain factory in China and built during a two month period. Maybe outside of that one factory it really is a .4% failure rate?

Even more specifically, it seems like it's only ones shipped to Amazon. If you look at GameStop's site, there's only four 1 star reviews. Has anyone here had a PS4 failure and they got their console at some place other than Amazon?

you take way to much stock in reviews, lol.
What else is there to go by? I felt like you do about them with the Xbox 360 and I ended up regretting that. I'm planning on getting a PS4 once Infamous and Watch Dogs are out. If this high failure rate pans out then I'm not buying one till the slim is released in a couple of years. I'm basing my buying decision solely on what's reported on console reliability because I didn't listen to it last time and it turned into a major pain in the ass.

Picked mine up on my lunch break yesterday from GS.  Everything works well.  I wasn't planning on picking up any games till Infamous but with all the problems out there, I decided to pick up AC 4 just to make sure the disc drive works.  I don't have any blu-rays, DVDs or CDs anymore in this digital age.  I didn't want to all of a sudden realize in March that I've been holding a defective console for almost half a year.

This is what I don't understand. Apparently, the BBY in my town had to do something about 20 defective consoles. That's just in one town. That .4% is quite the underestimate unless something happened out of the norm here. In fact, I went in to BB last night hoping to find a PS4 - they had none - and try it out (I was very impressed), but even if I they had one I probably wouldn't have picked one up because of something that happened there. Customer Service was backed up with about 8 people in line. I don't know how many, if any, were there for possible PS4 problems but while I was talking to an employee as I was playing the FIFA demo, a lady came up to him saying that they had pre-ordered a PS4 and it was not working. The odds just don't add up that only .4% of PS4s have some type of problem.

its not a high failure rate though.

Do you know if everyone was defective or people freaking out and returning it because they heard of defective issues?

I readily admit that it's a bit early to say that it's a super high defect rate. It's also true that there might be fake reviews and possible that MS hired that PR firm they used after the reaction to their announcement to spam bad reviews at Sony. The games I want aren't out for a while but I'm keeping a close eye on this.

lol If you look at the way I wrote that comment, I was careful to not assume that. "I don't know how many, if any, were there for possible PS4 problems." What got me was that I was there for 10 minutes at a random time, and that lady happens to show up at that time with a non-working PS4. A very good friend of mine also had a customer try to return a PS4 game at Family Video because his PS4 was DOA, or so he told him. I don't know, what the actual failure rate is, but all I'm saying is that I don't believe it's .4% or less. I hope I'm wrong, as I really want one.

In the same boat as you: Overnight shipping from CA to NY from Newegg. I called FedEx about this and said there was a truck fire preventing planes from taking off. I was told to call when it gets delivered and file a claim to get my shipping cost refunded. Really bummed about this and was really looking forward to having it day one instead of waiting with the free shipping option. Oh well. No more pre-ordering systems online for this guy.

Edit: Mine now shows it's in Tennessee also. Must be in the same lot!

Mine is defective, it could be isolated but who knows. I'm uploading a video right now to prove it.
Where did you buy it from? I want to see the video because I know a lot of these are apparently HDMI problems which is weird considering that millions (billions?) of electronics now have HDMI ports so why is this so hard?
