Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

No it all sucks

None of us have been talking about how awesome 6 dollar Dark Souls, 6.99 Max payne pack, or the upcoming Lego Bundle is/will be.

Autumn/Thanksgiving/Black Friday sale my ass

Without Sarcasm: Dark Souls/MP pack/Lego Bundle mmm tasty
I already have Dark Souls and every Max Payne game somewhere (except MP3 Season Pass, which I'm not interested in). :p

Glad to see others hop on these deals, but I want ALSO some different insane deals for stuff I don't own!

Like say...AC3 (base game) for $6. :p

EDIT:

I must say, really dug that past weekend NFS: Most Wanted 2012 (base game) deal for a Lincoln ($5).

May I ask as I missed again, which Lego bundle? That with half the HP games and some of the others or another one?
I'm talkin bout the one w/Hp and a few other gamez. As far as I know thats the only Lego bundle in the sale

I'm kindof hoping they don't do tooooo many other crazy deals. Amazon's gonna rip my wallet a new one.

Already bought the bully/manhunt pack, dark souls, pixeljunk eden, and max payne pack, and plan on biting on dat lego pack. If they keep offering up all these sweet sweet deals, my wallet's gonna run away from me.

I liked when we got emails with codes for the 5 dollar credits with this promo. Not getting any indication you get the credit, it seems like too much work on the buyers end to make sure we actually get all the credits we should be getting....also it was nice being able to give the credits we didnt use to other people without having to buy the games for them. I know that I had to contact customer support about missing credits with the last promo....again..I shouldnt have to do this...but I guess thats part of the promo....you snooze you lose.

Mostly though...it made it easier to keep track of things getting emails signifying we actually have the credits and could use a code to redeem them.
You're still going to get the emails, just all at once instead of trickled in. We got a lot of complaints last year that no one could keep track of their emails.

Cheers,
Tony

Still have to keep track of the purchases we made...all I was saying is it was easier when we received a code immediately after the purchase. If you forgot about it....thats your problem. Now, if I buy 10 things, I need to make sure when I recieve my emails in January that I actually got a credit for each purchase.

no worries MysterD at least you will be able to get the steam key for ac3

an extra layer of dm for only 1.5 more:)

btw for most uplay games-not all- steam isnt required to run

- so in that case steam isnt drm, its just an optional launcher with steam features

i dont know about ac3 but fc3 does not require steam running

My only concern is that if there is an issue, it may not be noticed until it's too late (EC sales already started) or may not be noticed at all (I'll be required to count up my DVG purchases and match it with whatever the email will say I should get promo-wise).

thats exactly it...

I agree with both of these comments.

Well ok then, I thought there was another hidden sale that wasn't on the spreadsheet, lol. The one on the spreadsheet is ok, but personally I'd do Lego HP 1-4 + HP 5-7 for $5 both, Lego Batman 1+2 for another $5 and hm... That's about me, lol. A dollar up or down these prices is affordable I guess. I have Lego LOTR already so the bundle listed for this sale isn't really helping my urge to instabuy.

Arkham Origins is going to be $20 on Thursday. (Crazy!)

Kind of frustrated since it just came out. I don't mind when games go on sale, but not when it's so soon after they came out. I'm sure that's a complaint everyone always has when buying new games.

Anyway, I still have a copy of Batman Arkham City in my Steam inventory.. anyone have idea how I can give out steam inventory? 14 games waiting for a good home..
I don't really find it that crazy, since you could have gotten an AMD (or was it nVidia) pack in code on ebay for just about that.

About those Steam gifts, just send them to me and I will make sure they are put to good use ;)

I think I'm pickin up dat ps3 last of us/batman arks and oranges bundle on b. friday. Can finally compare LoU w/BI.

Don't worry, I'm sure Naughty Dog reads CAG threads and will port it to PC for you
And here I am disappointed with both of them...

It's a physics game with questionable physics. Now it's just more popular to hate it, because, the internet.
I've also heard it described as something that transcends video games as a medium...and is possibly early training for serial killers...

Hey, this isn't the tech support thread, it's the "Amazon DVG games and LN3000 key drop" thread!
Can we get this in the title, Tony? I've been so confused this whole time.

Sorry, you're not my type.

BTW, I just had a close experience with Uplay and I must say - it sucks. Big time.

First of all, you first download something, then install it. But then start the updates. You also download them first, then it asks you if you want to install them (not that you can play without them). Some updates (in FC3 case that happened) I had to manually download it from their site and manually install it. But even after I did, there was a 5th update for me to download and then install.....

Not to mention their server speed which is plain horrible. I download Skyrim from Steam for 15 minutes and play it right away. It took me ~4 hours (!!!!!) to download and play FC3, not to mention I wanted to smash my screen for all the mindless updates.

Also, FC Blood Dragon was plain bugged as it kept saying some files didn't match and in the end (after 2-3 hours of downloading and installations....) it wouldn't run because of a .dll. I had to remove it and right now I am downloading it again. Even tho I am highly tempted to go and spend my hard earned cash to go and buy anything uplay directly from Steam.

Honestly, never again.

Doesn't Intel still have that Facebook giveaway for that?

It's pretty easy to win using a trick. (Aiming to certain time range (2:48-3:00 iirc), with making enough "honest" mistakes or just waiting)

Don't ask why. Probably bad (sorting) code?
I did it at 2:55, and didn't get the code. (Or who knows when it is supposed to go out.)

Perhaps you can try to win one for me? :p

Of course, if our Amazon accounts actually reflected in grave-detail what exact coupons we had, things would be TONS easier.

why buy less drm at the same price ?

:p
Forget the extra DRM, at least Steam properly manages (ok, when it's not bugged and servers ain't down) your downloads and automatically updates anything for you as long as you opt it to. Not to mention the community bonuses you have when you use w/e there.

Uplay is horrible. Avoid.

////Uplay, if you get better, I won't hate upon you, I promise.

I'd be interested in a "complete" LEGO pack (HP 1-4 + 5-7, Batman 1+2, and LOTR) for $15. Current planned one has too many missing prequels for my taste.

Can't say I remember having speed issues with Uplay. I was getting line speed last week when I downloaded AC4.

you can find it easily for 2 tf keys($5) in steamtrades and similar sites

eg http://www.steamtrades.com/forum/search/grid%202

If they only have servers in the States and you're there that might be the reason. Speed from Europe is horrible, considering my speed is about 150 mbit/s the time I had to wait was quite excess. And please, these manual updates are just the plague.

The more DRM, the better.
Next time, we'll make sure every game ships w/ all of the above DRM hoops to jump through:

Steam, G4WL, UPlay, Origin, Capsule, Tages, Securom, Rockstar Social Club, SolidShield, StarForce & SafeDisc.

Sounds like the old days of PC gaming, when you had to get patches off either official or 3rd party game-website games & then you normally had to run the patches one-by-one in order (unless otherwise stated).

FC3 base game patches on their website -> http://far-cry.ubi.com/fc-portal/en-GB/downloads/index.aspx

FC3: BD patches -> https://support.ubi.com/en-gb/FAQ.aspx?platformid=9&brandid=108&productid=4567&faqid=kA030000000eY0tCAE

Odd. I have FC3 on Uplay and have not had any of these issues. I haven't had to do any manual updates and my download speed are actually faster with Uplay (and GOG surprisingly).

Yes, it was so clever you should all try and pull the wool over Tony's eyes. Seriously, I followed a CAG post on FB to the page 1 post, clicked the link, scrolled down to the DRM section, check if I had any of the games in steam (MC2) and thought everything was good. I'm not a thief, pisses me off that everyone just jumps in and stirs shit. And it's the shit that makes these threads unreadable. I'm surprised Tony's head doesn't explode around lunch time each day with all the drivel people post.
I'm surprised his head didn't explode when you bitched about something totally out of Amazon's control. When you buy PC downloads from any online store you should check each game to see what kind of DRM it has. Gamefly, Gamersgate, and Amazon all sell packs that have multiple DRM systems for different games. You didn't pay attention, you got outraged and started complaining on a forum, and for some reason Tony gave you $10 which is way more than any other store would do for you. The game isn't even on Steam, so it's pretty ridiculous to whine about it. If the link for that individual game said Steam that would be different. But your post comes off as entitled and childish, and that's why people didn't take it that well.

I remember this game because of the controversy surrounding its Valve ban. I kind of want it just because of this. I'm sure it's about as erotic as watching dogs hump, but I doubt it's any sleazier than Night Trap.
From looking at the screenshots, it's about as erotic as cardboard cut-outs...which probably explains why I always have so many damned paper cuts.

I'm surprised his head didn't explode when you bitched about something totally out of Amazon's control.
The moral of the story: Amazon has excellent customer support and Tony rocks. This is why many of us give them our meager business.

Hm. Not to pee on Tony's thread or anything but have the Sims 3 expansions been any cheaper than $10 anywhere?
Yeah, most of the older ones have been in the $7.50-$8 range. Might want to hold off another month.

Wow, the Max Payne is tempting. I only need MP3 + MP3: SP as I already own the first two. If I didn't have such a massive backlog I'd be all over it.
Same here, but I don't really need the season pass. I'd rather wait until MP3 by itself is cheaper, or bundled with only the SP for $4.

I feel like Amazon is trying to get the maximum value out of MP3 by cramming it into "complete" bundles. Problem is, I have the other games included. This applies to other games too though.

To the right type of people, I'm sure watching dogs hump is pretty erotic. But they probably wouldn't be looking to this game to get their kicks.

I think they may have been...hey...hey you! ZIP THOSE PANTS BACK UP RIGHT NOW. DON'T TELL ME YOU DON'T HAVE A BATHROOM

Is xbox redemption thing fucked right now? I can't redeem the dark souls code on xbox forums or GFWL
You should try redeeming on steam I bet it'll work there ;)

god damn, they should just give dark souls away at this point. Im so sick of this game going on sale lol. doesnt everyone who had wanted it have it by now????
